“Wiss worked out of some tough spots, forcing us to strand nine. We need to work more at driving guys in.”

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 1
The trio of Gavin Day, Blake Jordan and Ryan Hickey combined for a standout effort on the mound, scattering seven hits and not allowing any earned runs.

Gavin Day (3.0 IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K), Blake Jordan W (3.0 IP, 4H, 0R, 0ER, 1BB, 2K), Ryan Hickey S (1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 1K)
By the innings: Bottom of first: Curtier safe on error to open inning. One out later, O’Neill was hit by a pitch. Curtier advanced to third on wild pitch and scored on sac fly by Johnny Mendola. (1-0)
Top of third: Archbishop Ryan plates an unearned run without the benefit of a hit. (1-1)
Bottom of sixth: Curtier lined a single to right to lead off inning, stole second and advanced to third on sacrifice bunt by Owen McLean. O’Neill’s line drive RBI single to left field brought home the game-winner. (2-1)
Council Rock South coach Greg Paprocki: “It was great to get one in the win column. I thought Ryan’s pitcher did a great job keeping us off balance. I expect him to have a great year in the Catholic League.
“I thought our guys did a nice job staying the course and competing at the plate. When facing a big arm like Perez, opportunities to score can be at a minimum. When we got runners on, we did a great job of manufacturing a couple runs to come out with a win.
“It’s a step in the right direction for our guys, but we have a lot of work to do.”
Up next: Council Rock South (1-1) will host Abington in a non-league game Monday.
