ABINGTON 4, SOUDERTON 3
Stephen Vogl’s RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh propelled the Ghosts to the dramatic walk-off win over the visiting Indians. Although the game doesn’t count in the district rankings, Tuesday’s non-league game mattered to the Ghosts.
“Especially a team like Souderton – they’re such a good team, they’re well-coached, the kids are awesome, so it was a really big win for us for that reason even though it was a non-league game,” Abington coach Jon Morrissette said. “The big message to the kids was – 17 strong.
“We played all 17 kids, we used seven different pitchers, and everybody contributed. It was impressive just to see the team effort.”
The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Jordan Morales drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly and Hogain DeSpain brought home a pair with a two-out single. The Ghosts evened the scored with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sonny Stevenson delivered a two-run single, and Connor Hall singled home the tying run, setting the stage for Vogl’s game-winner in the seventh.
“In the last inning, we had some really good at-bats,” Morrissette said. “(Joey) DiMaria, who was 1-for-2 with two walks, worked his second walk. It was a really tough at-bat.
“Conlan Wall, the pitcher for Souderton, was ahead in the count and really threw some tough pitches. Joey just kept fouling them off, and he worked a walk to get the inning started.”
Sophomore Henry Tyler, who earned the win on the mound, singled to keep the inning alive.
“Griffin Wittenberg, a senior who had a really good game, worked two walks today, and he was intentionally walked to load the bases,” Morrissette said.
Vogl re-entered the game to deliver the game-winning single.
“It was very exciting for the kids,” said Morrissette, whose son, Dylan, played for Souderton and is now playing at Widener. “It’s a classy organization all the way around.”
Souderton’s Moses Clemens, who was 2-for-2 with a run scored, was the lone player with more than one hit in a contest that saw the Indians send 19 players to the plate.
Tyler threw a scoreless seventh to earn the win. He struck out the side. Joey DiMaria, Kevin Worek, Bobby Curry, Ryan Van Buren and Justin Cunnane each threw a scoreless frame for the Ghosts.
For the Indians, Luke Taylor allowed two hits in two scoreless innings. He struck out three. Erik Ritchie also tossed two scoreless frames.
Abington (1-0) will travel to Springfield Township for Thursday’s SOL opener, and Souderton (1-1) will be on the road at Perkiomen Valley Thursday for a non-league game.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 6, PENNSBURY 3
The visiting Titans plated a single run in the third and added three more in the fifth to take a lead they would not lose in Tuesday’s non-league contest.
“It was a good win for us on the road against a very good Pennsbury team,” South coach Brian Klumpp said.
Dylan Gruber, Brock Veit and Jake Trachtenberg each drove in a run in the three-run fifth.
Contributing multiple hits for the Titans were Trachtenberg (2-for-2, 2B, 2 RBIs), Gruber (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Jake McKeown (2-for-2, RBI, 2 runs). Veit was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Bryan Rossi was 1-for-2 with a double and run scored.
Three pitchers combined in the win with Joe Martino, who came into the game in the third inning, earning the win.
“All three pitchers did a great job on the mound pitching to contact,” Klumpp said. “Joe Martino threw tremendous. He was hitting spots with his fastball and keeping them off balance with his curveball. He really had good stuff today.
“We played really clean defense and came up with timely hits.”
Gavin Anderson threw two scoreless innings to open the game. Chuckie Carter recorded the game’s final out.
For the Falcons, RJ Huth was 3-for-3 with a triple while Sam Ruta was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Shane Marlin also had one RBI and Drew Hensor scored a pair of runs.
Central Bucks South (1-0) will travel to Quakertown for Thursday’s SOL opener. Pennsbury (2-1) will host Council Rock North in Thursday’s league opener.

QUAKERTOWN 13, PERKIOMEN PREP 8
As wins go, Tuesday’s may have been in non-league play, but it still felt something close to historic for the Panthers.
“It’s the first time we’ve beaten Perkiomen Prep, maybe ever,” coach Jon Pallone said. “It was non-league, and we had pitchers on specific pitch counts, but we did some nice things as a team.”
Perkiomen Prep took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the visiting Panthers got two of those back in the top of the second. Brad Bryan drove in one of those runs with a triple. A seven-run third inning gave the Panthers a 9-5 lead. They never looked back. Highlighting the third inning was a three-run double by Sean Brennan that put the Panthers ahead to stay.
Cody Barberio earned his first varsity victory with two strong innings while on a pitch count.
Sean Brennan had a big day out of the leadoff spot, finishing 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Adam Ritter was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Bryan was 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and three runs scored, and Ben Eichorn was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Quakertown (2-0) will host Central Bucks South in Thursday’s SOL opener.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4, NORTH HUNTERDON (N.J.) 1
The Indians return just one starter from last year’s successful squad, but if Tuesday’s performance is any indication, the Indians could have an interesting season.
“This was definitely a quality win,” coach Matt Schram said. “I have a brand new team on the field from last year, and they are figuring this sport out pretty quickly.”
Pat Kusters was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored while Ryan Stalker was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Tim Gibson was 1-for-2 with a double. Colin Manel and Ryan Marlow each added an RBI.
“Nate Abbe, Pete Sodano and Mitch Whitney combined on the mound to make things difficult against a good hitting team from North Hunterdon,” Schram said.
Abbe allowed three hits and one run (unearned) in four innings of work. He struck out two and walked three. Pete Sodano threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits while striking out three. Mitch Whitney threw a scoreless seventh, allowing no hits while striking out two and walking one.
Council Rock North (1-0) will open SOL play on the road at Pennsbury on Thursday.
