SOL Liberty Division
Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Upper Dublin 0
Max Eagland and Spencer Rosen combined for the three-hit shutout as PW took the season series with its second straight win over rival Upper Dublin in SOL Liberty action on Thursday.
“It was fun getting going with our first three-game series of the season,” said PW coach Chris Manero. “We knew this new format would feel different, and honestly, even this early in the season, it sort of created a postseason atmosphere.”
By the numbers: PW: Max Eagland (WP, 5 IP, 2 H, O ER, 2 BB, 7 K), Spencer Rosen (Save, 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, O BB, 2 K), Mason Eagland (2-for-3, double), Brody Stump (2-for-4, double, RBI),
Christian Strunk (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs)
Key Innings: Bottom of the 1st: Gabe Caucci walked, Ryan Heincer was hit by a pitch, and Sam Stolzer walked to load the bases. A one-out single to right by Stump scored Caucci. (1-0)
Bottom of the 5th: Mason Eagland with the lead-off double, Heincer walked, Stolzer had a bunt single, and Strunk scored two with a one-out double. (3-0)
Coach Chris Manero said: “We could not have asked for more from our pitchers today. Max Eagland came out of the bullpen for a couple of innings on Monday, so I wasn’t completely sure how much he’d be able to give us today. My initial thought was that we’d use him as an opener, maybe for just a few innings, but yesterday at practice, he assured me he was going to give us more.
“He pitched with a ton of command all day and got us deep into the game, as he promised.
“For the second game in a row, Spencer Rosen came in from the bullpen and gave us two solid innings “Pitchers will have to be efficient if we want to get through these three-game weeks successfully, and these guys did every bit of that today.”
–At the plate: “Offensively, we had a lot of opportunities in front of us today. Unfortunately, we also left 10 runners on base, and we need to do a better job on capitalizing in those situations. We did a really nice job driving in runs on Tuesday, but today we missed many of those chances.
“’It Takes All of Us’ is one of our mottos this year, and we are seeing that clearly in the early going. What we lacked at times in offense today, we made up with our defense. We played error-free baseball on top of strong pitching.
“Upper Dublin is a very good baseball team, and you can’t give things away to them. So it was important for us to stay as fundamentally sound as we could this week.”
Up next: PW (2-3, 2-1 SOL) next hosts Hatboro-Horsham on Tuesday. Upper Dublin (4-2, 3-2) is off until Thursday when it hosts Wissahickon.

Non-League
Upper Moreland 7, Hatboro-Horsham 5
After a couple tough losses to open the season, Upper Moreland picked a good time for its first win, jumping up on rival Hatboro-Horsham and leading throughout on the way to the 7-5 win.
Pat Kilgus was 2-for-2 with a double, 3 RBIs and a save on the mound for the Golden Bears.
“Great to get our first win against our longtime rival,” said UM coach Jim Fasano. “It was a sloppy game at times on both sides, but I am proud of our kids as they’re a great group. I scheduled some tough nonleague games to start the year, and we learned a lot about what we need to work on. It’s way better to be playing well late in the season than early.”
By the numbers: UM: Pat Kilgus (2-for-2, double, 3 RBIs, 1 IP, Save), Jackson Townsend (2-for-3, 2 runs), Colson Campbell (2-for-4, RBI), Chase Rampulla (2-for-3, RBI), Luke Sword (Triple, RBI), Nick Simons (WP, 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K)
H-H: Cole Incudine (2-for-4, double)
Key innings: Top of the 2nd: Max Abbosh reached on an error, went to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on a bunt single by Chase Rampulla. Chase Moore singled, Jackson Townsend singled, and Pat Kilgus hit a two-run double to put UM up 4-0.
Bottom of the 7th: Trailing 7-4, H-H scored one and put the tying and winning run on base. Ricky Klenk reached on a one-out walk, Ryan Thomas a two-out single, Isaiah Brown a pinch-hit RBI single and Chase Canney then walked to load the bases. UM’s Kilgus then induced a flyout to end the threat and the game (7-5)
Coach Jim Fasano said: “Pat Kilgus was Pat Kilgus today with 2 hits, 3 RBIs, and a save on the mound. He’s going to West Chester, and while I wish he’d be at UM forever, I’m looking forward to seeing the great career he’s going to have there.”
—Return of basketball players: “Our basketball team had the best season in UM history (Class 5A state final four), and while I was rooting for them, I was also looking forward to having our all-league outfielder, Colson Campbell, back in the group. His brother, Cannon, is a 6-5 freshman lefty who threw two big innings for us. Needless to say, it’s nice to add those guys to the mix.
“We’re still figuring some things out offensively and defensively but now we move into league play with some momentum and with the monkey off our back. Credit to H-H for not quitting in the game and putting the winning run on base in the seventh.”
Up next: Upper Moreland (1-4) opens Freedom Division play Monday against William Tennent at home. H-H (0-3) hosts Cardinal O’Hara in a nonleague game on Friday.

Wissahickon 9, William Tennent 1
Three pitchers combined for a one-hitter and the bats came alive late for Wissahickon which rallied to blow past William Tennent in a non-league game Thursday.
“I thought this week went really well for us in terms of getting back on the right track, playing good, confident Wissahickon baseball,” said coach Andy Noga. “Last week was tough for us, but I was proud of our boys
to come back and win the week. We outscored our opponents 10-1 this week and played great all-around ball.”
By the Numbers: Wissahickon: Nolan Carter (WP, 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K), Ryan Kim (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Jonnie Klinger (triple, 2-for-3, RBI), Thomas Puerzer (2-for-3)
Key Inning: Top of the 5th: Trailing 1-0, Klinger tied it with a RBI single, Chase Carpenter scored him with a RBI single and Kim followed with a two-run double.(4-1)
Coach Andy Noga said: “Looking at today’s game against William Tennent, I was really happy with how we swung it. We got to see some fresh faces in the lineup, and they capitalized on their opportunities. I thought Ryan Kim had some really nice swings for us today, barreling up two doubles. Thomas Puerzer also looked sharp at the dish. I liked how aggressive we were on the base paths making things happen by putting pressure on the defense whenever we could.
“On the other side of the ball, not much I can say. We turned to three different guys who combined to throw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. We need to clean up the walks and get ahead of hitters more consistently, but I think our pitching coach, Colin Kennedy, really has our entire staff, top to bottom, ready to come in and get outs whenever their number is called.
“Hopefully we can build off of this strong week as we get back after a tough UD team next week.”
Up next: Wissahickon (3-3) is off until a Thursday division game against Upper Dublin on Thursday. Tennent (1-3) opens its Freedom Division schedule on April 7 at New Hope-Solebury.

Souderton: Charlie Hunsinger (2-for-4), Evan Divens (2-for-2, 3 RBIs), Ben Divens (3 RBIs), Tyler Lutz (2 RBIs)
Key Innings: Top of the 6th: Pennsbury’s Nolan Kolanko got things started with a one-out RBI double. Ty Lee, Dylan Hirsh, Evan Hawkes, and Ryan Webber each had RBI singles. Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci said:“I threw eight different pitchers. My goal was to get an inning per guy, and (Souderton) scored four runs in the first, four runs in the second and another in the fourth.
“To be fair, (the comeback) was really the subs. It’s a nonleague game. It’s tricky, you want to win and get momentum going into the league, but at the same time, you want to get guys in and compete.
“Today, we made a ton of substitutions in the fourth and fifth innings, and they came out and had great at-bats – singles, doubles and walks. They really did a great job.”
Souderton coach Mike Childs said: “It was definitely a learning experience for us today. With the competition in our league, you never can count on a win until the last out is made.
“We had some guys who are fighting for a spot really step up today. Charlie Hunsicker was huge in relief late in the game. Ben Divens stepped up in a big way in the seventh with a bases loaded two-out double to clear the bases and tie the game.”
Up next: Pennsbury (2-0-1) hosts CR North in its SOL Patriot opener Monday. Souderton (0-1-1) has a scheduled nonleague game Friday at Dock Mennonite.

North Penn coach Kevin Manero said: “We have played a lot of baseball in the last couple weeks and that was the goal – get as much worked out as possible before conference play starts.
“We used eight pitchers this week and we’re happy with the efforts we got from the staff. We’ve been able to make some adjustments at the plate. And we’re looking forward to the games that really count.
“Jake Nunn was very economical with his pitches today, and this is such a big key for us this season. And at the plate, scoring first and extending a lead was central to the way we controlled the game today.”
Up next: North Penn (5-0) has a three-game league slate against CB East next week, starting with a Tuesday game at home.
