SOL Liberty Division
Plymouth Whitemarsh 1, Upper Dublin 0
Friday was a purist’s delight, at least as far as the pitching was concerned, as Plymouth Whitemarsh and visiting Upper Dublin managed just three hits, and the only run came in the first inning.
And that unearned run in the first was the difference as the Colonials opened their Liberty Division schedule with the close win.
PW’s Bobby Pasquarello pitched a one-hit, complete-game shutout. He retired 17 of the first 18 batters that he faced, carried a no-hitter into the seventh, and after UD’s Gavin Litten broke it up with one out, Pasquarello induced a double-play ground out to end the game.
“If you like quick games on cold days, today was a good one,” said PW coach Chris Manero. “Can’t say enough about Bobby’s performance. He pitched to contact, didn’t throw a ton of pitches and just kept a really great pace all day.
“The guy at the top of your rotation is so important in the three-game series, and we are excited to see Bobby in that spot.”
Upper Dublin starter Chase Greiner allowed just one unearned run on two hits over five innings pitched.
Key Players: PW-Bobby Pasquarello (7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K); UD-Chase Greiner (5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 6 BB, 5 K).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st- Michael Bongard drew a one-out walk for PW, went to second on a Pasquarello walk, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored the game’s only run on another passed ball.
PW coach Chris Manero:
“(Pasquarello) lost that no-hitter with one out in the seventh, but I think that inning also highlighted our defense. Spencer Rosen did a nice job cutting off the hit and holding the runner to a single, which allowed us to keep the game-ending double play intact.
“There weren’t a ton of opportunities for runs today, but we didn’t help ourselves, squandering a couple opportunities to build on the one-run lead. We will have to get to work on a few things to correct that.”
Next up: PW (4-1, 1-0 SOL) hosts Upper Dublin (1-2, 0-1 SOL) again on Monday in Game 2 of the three-game set.

Quakertown 11, Archbishop Carroll 8
Quakertown seemingly was in control of this one from the start, but Archbishop Carroll was pesky until the end, with six runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but in the end, the Panthers emerged with the 11-8 victory to open its season Friday night.
Tied at 2, Quakertown scored five times in the fourth to go up 7-2, and then after Carroll cut it 7-5 in the top of the sixth, the Panthers answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to build an 11-5 lead.
Carroll then scored three more in the seventh, taking advantage of five walks and a hit batter, before Quakertown’s Chase Davis came up with the strikeout to end the game with the bases loaded.
“It was great to be back on the Multi-Purpose Park again,” said Quakertown coach Jon Pallone. “We lost last year, and it was heartbreaking. The guys were excited to get back and play under the lights. The community comes out and supports us and it’s an amazing atmosphere to be in.”
Key Players: Carter Tucholski (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 4 RBIs, 2 runs), William Bowen (3-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Peyton Trappler (1-for-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Brady Martin (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 SBs).

“We had a lot of guys do a lot of good things against a good Carroll team. But we still have a lot to work on.
“Carter Tucholski and William Bowen had great days at the plate with multi-hit days. Each reached base four times and hit balls to both LF and RF.”

After getting no-hit Thursday against Pope John Paul II, Lower Moreland came right back Friday at Bristol, and after battling back to tie the game at 3 in the fourth, saw things fall apart as the Lions came up on the short end of a 11-3 final.
