Non-league
NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 11, GEORGE SCHOOL 1 (5 innings)
The Lions scored in every inning on their way to the abbreviated mercy rule win in Saturday’s non-league contest.
Tyler Corino picked up his second win of the season, allowing two hits while striking out two in two innings on the mound.
“Ty didn’t have his best stuff today, but he battled and threw a heavy ball,” NH-S coach Tony Vlahovic said.
John Whelan threw three scoreless innings in relief. The lefty, according to his coach, worked ahead, and his fastball had good movement.
Doubles by Joe Rickard and JT Bach helped the Lions scored in each of the first two innings. Sam Morrin and Tyler Corino each added to the lead with an RBI single and sacrifice fly.
Bach and Morrin each had two hits for the Lions, who also benefitted from some George School miscues.
“This game turned out to be a great opportunity for our younger players on the roster to get some playing time,” Vlahovic said.
JT Rutowski had his first varsity hit and RBI.
New Hope-Solebury (2-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Council Rock South in a non-league game Monday.
