By the Numbers: Pennsbury: Carlton Crane (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs, 3 SBs), Pierce Perry (2-for-4, double, triple, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Evan Hawkes (2-for-5, 2 run), Ben Seidler (2 RBIs), Keller Bradley (WP), 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 5th: Pennsbury blew it open with five runs. After the first two batters reached on an error and a walk, Ryan Webber scored one with a sacrifice fly. Pierce Perry had an RBI double, and Will Curtin an RBI single.
Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci: “We had bases loaded, nobody out in the first. After two strikeouts, we had a clutch, two-run single by Ben Seidler.
“Keller (Bradley) struggled in the first inning, he was a little bit off. We had an opportunity to turn a double play and didn’t. A blooper scored a run, an overthrow scored another run.
“(Truman’s Austin) Allen did a really good job after the first inning keeping us at bay. Our first three innings, we struck out six times. Our first five outs were strikeouts. But we were able to run his pitch count up and I think we got him out in the fourth inning.
“We went up on a run in the fourth, and then in the fifth we reached on an error, walked, wild pitch, sac fly, single hit by pitch. We had a clutch hit that was big. There was a flyball that dropped behind the mound, a bunch of passed balls. We were hitting the ball hard. Pierce Perry had a double and a triple. Carlton Crane and Ethan Hawkes both had bunts for hits. We had some funky plays there, but we ran the bases well and took advantage of mistakes.”
–On the mound: “(Bradley) has pitched at Truman every year and has struggled. I don’t know if it’s the mound there or just his mindset, but after the first inning he was really good. He was struggling with some deep counts and threw 90 pitches through five innings. He was hitting the corners instead of just attacking.”
Next up: Pennsbury (8-2-1, 5-2 SOL) hosts Truman (2-8, 0-7 SOL) Wednesday in Game 2 of the series.
Pennsbury 200 152 2 – 12 12 0
