WISSAHICKON 11, HARRY S TRUMAN 0 (6 innings)
Sydney Darnell was perfect.
For six innings, the Trojans’ sophomore standout mowed down one Truman batter after another, retiring all 18 batters she faced in a masterpiece.
“Sarah (Carney), my assistant coach, and I just can’t say enough about how she has matured from last year to this year,” Wissahickon coach Mike Borkowski said. “Physically, mentally, softball pitching-wise, everything – she has just grown leaps and bounds. It’s just been unbelievable how she’s changed.
“She’s just been great for us. Last year, if she got a call she didn’t like, she would get all worked up. This year, she shrugs it off and comes back with another pitch. She doesn’t panic. The change has just been huge, and I’m so proud of her. She had other things going on in her life, and to be able to do this is just terrific.”
According to the Trojans’ coach, no one dared mention that Darnell was onto something special
“Hailee Closs, one of our players, was keeping score, and I looked down at the book, and Hailee covered the book up,” Borkowski said. “She said, ‘Don’t say anything.’
“It was the top of the fifth inning, and we couldn’t say anything. It came to the top of the sixth and it was the bottom of the order. I was worried that in the top of the seventh they would bring the top of their order up with a 3-0 lead. Nobody said a word in the dugout, but I think everybody knew. It was pretty cool.”
The Trojans’ coach credited his team’s defense for its role in the perfect game.
“If you look at their lineup, historically through the season, their one through four are their bangers, and they’re the ones that cause all the trouble, but Syd handled them, and we had some terrific plays on defense,” Borkowski said. “Those little popups that usually drop, we caught them today.
“Our shortstop, Julia Lentz, had three putouts by herself in one inning with little popups. Syd kept the ball down the whole time, and there were a lot of little popups. Tara, our catcher, caught a beautiful one by the dugout. Our defense really, really played great.”
By the numbers: Sydney Darnell (W) (6 IP, 0H, 0R, 0ER, 0BB, 7K)
Riley McGarry (3-for-3, 3B, 2RBI, 2R), Gianna Trerotola (2-for-4, 3B, 3RBI, 1R), Julia Lentz (1-for-3, 2B, 1RBI, 2R), Dani Marra (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI, 1R), Sydney Darnell (2B)
Key innings: Bottom of first: With one out, Lentz drew a walk and scored when Gianna Trerotola roped an RBI triple to right field. A sac fly by Juliet O’Farrell plated Trerotola to spot the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Bottom of fifth: McGarry led off the inning with a single, stole second, moved up to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Giuliana Schumann to make it a 3-0 game.
Bottom of sixth: With the Trojans leading 3-0 and the top of Truman’s order due up, the Trojans erupted for eight runs to bring an early end to the game. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Marra, a two-run triple by McGarry and – with two outs – an RBI double by Darnell, a run-scoring double by Lentz, and the game-ending two-run single by Trerotola for the 11-0 final.
Wissahickon coach Mike Borkowski: “We’re trying to flip our record. It started with Cheltenham and then we got Upper Moreland – that was a huge win, and this was a big win for us because they smacked us around last year. We’re trying to get in the playoffs as a 12 or 11 seed, and we’re sneaking up on them.
“These girls have been so great to coach – the improvement that they’ve shown. We start seven sophomores and freshmen. We’ve been working and practicing, and they’re very coachable, and they terrific kids. I’m very happy we were able to win again. This equals our win total of last year.”
Up next: Wissahickon (6-7, 1-4 SOL) will host Central Bucks East in a non-league game Thursday, and Harry S Truman (3-8, 1-4) will host Cheltenham on Wednesday.

UPPER MORELAND 1, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (9 innings)
This one belonged to the two pitchers, and it’s a shame either had to lose.
UM’s Delaney Stout and West’s Ana Glemser found themselves locked in a classic pitcher’s duel, and it was Stout and the Golden Bears eking out the win when Lianna Adames delivered a clutch two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
Stout, the Golden Bears’ sophomore ace, reached a personal milestone in the win with the 300th strikeout of her young career.
“Having a pitcher like Delaney is a gift,” UM coach Melanie Martino said. “She is incredibly hardworking, consistent and incredibly talented.
“Delaney is always studying the game and opponents she may face. She doesn’t just work at practice – it’s all the time. Of course, as a coach, I love having such a great pitcher on my roster, but my favorite part of coaching Delaney is that her love for the game is contagious. I’m thrilled she is just a sophomore.”
Making Tuesday’s win especially significant was the fact that it snapped a three-game UM losing streak that included two one-run losses – both by 3-2 scores – and a 2-0 loss.
“Winning today against a good team like CB West after going into extra innings again and after we have lost three close games was huge for our team,” Martino said. “They have played so strong game after game and with such grit that I could not be happier for them.
“We had a stretch of non-league games and are about to start a stretch of league games. It’s the right part of our season to be playing well and get a win like today.”
Glemser – who absorbed the loss despite throwing eight shutout innings – struck out 12 and allowed just five hits.
By the numbers: Upper Moreland: Delaney Stout (9 IP 3H, 0R, 5BB, 10K)
Sofia Magagna (2-for-4), Lianna Adames (1-for-3 1RBI)
Central Bucks West: Ana Glemser (8.2 IP, 5H 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 12K)
Taylor Hooven (2-for-4)
Key inning: Bottom of ninth: Claire Walton led off the inning with a five-pitch walk, and Joslyn McCellan followed with a single to left field. Both runners were still on first and second with two outs when Adames line a full-count pitch into right field that plated Walton with the game-winner.
Upper Moreland coach Melanie Martino: “Our team never goes down without a fight. They have so much heart I never count them out no matter the score.”
Central Bucks West coach Mike Daher: “Ana Glemser pitched outstanding in a very tough 1-0 loss. She kept Upper Moreland off the board the entire game until they scored with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. She battled for us the entire game and pitched outstanding, giving up only one run on five hits and she struck out 12 batters. We could not have asked for more from her. Our problem was that we were not able to give her any run support. We have been hitting well of late but just couldn’t get the job done today against Delaney Stout. Delaney was as outstanding as Ana. Both pitchers deserve a lot of credit for pitching terrific softball for the entire nine innings.”
Up next: Upper Moreland (7-5, 3-1 SOL) is off until next Tuesday when the Golden Bears will host William Tennent. Central Bucks West (7-5, 2-3) will be on the road at Plymouth Whitemarsh for a non-league game on Thursday.

NESHAMINY 2, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0
Molly Ambrosius and Zahmira Coppola-Miller proved to be double trouble for the Hatters.
Ambrosius took a perfect game into the fifth inning, retiring 13 in a row before Isabella Karpovich singled to center. The Hatters threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but the Redskins’ defense delivered.
Coppola-Miller had herself a day at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 and accounting for the Redskins’ only runs with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning that plated Morgan Leonhauser, who led off the frame with a single. That 2-0 lead stood the rest of the way.
Kennedy Conn pitched a gem of her own, allowing six hits while striking out nine and walking one. Isabella Karpovich had two of the Hatters’ four hits.
By the numbers: Neshaminy: Zahmira Coppola-Miller (3-for-3, 2B, HR, 2RBI, 1R)
Molly Ambrosius (7.0 IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 5K)
Hatboro-Horsham: Isabella Karpovich (2-for-3), Annabell Deacon (2B)
Key innings: Top of fourth: Morgan Leonhauser hit a leadoff single, and Coppola-Miller followed with a two-run home run to center field for a 2-0 Neshaminy lead.
Bottom of seventh: Mary Kate Langley led off with a bunt single, and she was erased on a line drive that was turned into a double play. Deacon doubled to center, and Isabella Karpovich singled but Deacon was thrown out at the plate by right fielder Lily Morello to catcher Maddie Jacoby for the tag to end the game.
Neshaminy coach Sarah Martoccio:
–Props for Ambrosius: “Molly had a great showing today. She was strong in the circle and was able to keep everyone off balance with a solid mix of pitches. We are all looking forward to seeing her continued success throughout the season.”
Coppola-Miller has a hot bat: “Zahmira has been completely dominating at the plate. She is batting well over .500, and collected a single, double, and home run today with 2 RBI’s (both of our runs). I am so grateful that she is on our team, because I absolutely would not want to be coaching a team that has to throw to her right now.”
Up next: Neshaminy (5-5, 3-2 SOL) will host New Hope-Solebury on Thursday in a non-league game, and Hatboro-Horsham (5-8, 1-4) will host Central Bucks South in a non-league game Thursday.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 7, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 6
The Titans opened up a 7-3 lead and then held off a late New Hope rally. With the tying run on second in the bottom of the seventh, Maura Fleming delivered the defensive play of the game with a diving stab of a line drive off the bat of Dagny Mobley for the game’s final out.
“Today I learned – you can’t just assume in this league you have anything because every team comes to play,” CB South coach Matt McLaughlin said. “Quite frankly, we ran into a very strong pitcher on New Hope – Mabel (Klausner), and she was really doing well today. She pitched the entire game. She has a lot of intensity and overall is just a competitor.
“Unfortunately for us, we had about seven errors which just really messed up the game for us and kept New Hope in the game. Those errors put us in a very precarious situation towards the end of the game. We could have lost the game.
“On the bright side, we got 17 girls into the game and still managed to win, and that’s the power of our team.”
Brooke Taylor and Alexis Griffin combined for the win in the circle.
By the numbers: Central Bucks South: Maura Fleming (2-for-4, 2R),
New Hope-Solebury: Danielle Wilson (2-for-4), Mabel Klossner (2-for-4, 2R), Dagny Mobley (2-for-4, 2RBI, 2R)
Key inning: Top of fifth: With two outs, Cam Lee singled and Maddie Jefferys delivered a pinch hit double. An error allowed two runs to score, and the Titans led 7-3.
Central Bucks South coach Matt McLaughlin: “We have 17 girls on the varsity roster, and I got all 17 into the game, and all 17 contributed in one way or another.
“Allie Higdon came off the bench for us today since Maura Fleming is back. Allie went from second base into a backup position today. She came up in a huge spot today and roped a single up the middle.
“Maddie Jefferys came into the game in a substitution situation and had a massive double for us down the line in her first at-bat of the game. Some of the kids I don’t talk about a lot really stepped up today and did well.
“We have a very strong 17, and it’s nice to get everybody in because they deserve it. These girls work hard, and sometimes I haven’t been able to get them all in. That’s the story tonight. We got 17 girls into the game, and I’m proud of all of them. It was just a great overall day. Our pitchers did their job. At the end of the day, I’m happy with the girls.”
–Props: “Maura Fleming, our starting second baseman who’s committed to Kutztown – this was her first game back fully in action defensively and offensively. She had a couple of big hits and a game-saving, game-ending incredible diving play at second base to end the game. Kudos to her today.”
Up next: Central Bucks South (7-5, 3-2 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham for a non-league game Thursday, and New Hope-Solebury (7-4, 4-1) will be on the road at Neshaminy for a non-league game Thursday.

PENNSBURY 5, QUAKERTOWN 4
The Falcons rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth to eke out a non-league road win Tuesday night. Gia Ranniello’s two-run home run in the sixth turned out to be the game-winner.
The two teams took turns exchanging the lead. The Falcons struck first in the top of the third when Bella Morales grounded a two-run single to left field. In the bottom of the fourth, Ava Eatherton singled home a pair to even the score 2-2, and Carli Maha’s sacrifice fly gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead.
Ryen Rittersbach’s sac fly in the top of the fifth evened the score 3-3 only to see the Panthers regain the lead when Leah Schwalm hit a solo homer to center field, setting the stage for Ranniello’s sixth-inning heroics.
Morales led the Falcons with three hits and two RBIs, and Schwalm’s 3-for-3 effort – which included a double and home run – led the Panthers.

NORTH PENN 12, WILLIAM TENNENT 2 (6 innings)
Felicia Connolly was in complete command in the circle.
The Knights’ junior ace struck out 12 batters, did not issue a walk and allowed just two hits. Both Tennent runs were unearned and came in the bottom of the sixth with the Knights on top 12-0.
“Felicia went into the sixth inning with a no-hitter,” NP coach Rick Torresani said. “She’s getting stronger and stronger with every game.”
Tuesday’s win came on the heels of the team’s spring break trip to Alabama that saw the Knights compile a 1-2 record. One of those losses came at the hands of Orange Beach (Ala.), the nation’s fifth-ranked team in the latest Sports Illustrated rankings that boasts a 35-2 record.
“They had six players who are going to SEC schools,” NP coach Rick Torresani said. “It was probably the best team I’ve ever seen on a high school level.
“It was a good trip. We needed to get away and just regroup and have some fun, and that’s what we did.”
In Tuesday’s win, the top three batters in North Penn’s lineup – Cailin Halfpenny, Tallie Smink and Mady Archer – were a combined 7-for-13 with six RBIs and seven runs scored. Archer led the way with a three-hit effort that included a double, four RBIs and a run scored. PENNRIDGE 15, LOWER MORELAND 1 (6 innings)
The visiting Rams took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning when they erupted for five runs and then added seven more in the sixth to bring an early end to the game.
“Lower Moreland’s pitcher kept us off balance in the first few innings, so it was a great team win where we worked together to produce runs any way it was possible,” Pennridge coach Kristyn Marinelli said.
Destiny Novashinski allowed just two hits and no earned runs in the complete game win. She took a one-hit shutout into the bottom of the sixth when the Lions plated their lone run.
By the numbers: Pennridge: Averi Dockery (2-for-4, HR, 3RBI, 4R), Jules Pliszka (2-for-4, 2B, 1RBI, 2R), Meghan Holberg (2-for-3, 2B, 3RBI, 2R), Brooke Bennett (22-for-3, 2B)

Pennridge coach Kristyn Marinelli: “We were happy to see everyone contribute today- the goal was to put the ball in play and make something happen each inning. Destiny Novashinski was mowing down batters, and we had key contributions from players who had a chance to step up, like Brooke Bennett and Sadie Brown who became clutch baserunners in key moments.
Up next: Pennridge (4-8, 1-4 SOL) will travel to Abington for a non-league game Thursday, and Lower Moreland (2-6, 0-4) will be on the road at Calvary Christian Academy for a non-league game Wednesday.

The Patriots pounded out 20 hits – including a four-hit, nine-RBI effort from Hailey Helmstetter, and Sarah Zmuda allowed just two hits in the abbreviated mercy rule shutout. The win brought a welcome end to a five-game losing skid for the Patriots, who scored early and often.
They scored two runs in each of the first two innings and blew the game open with five runs in the third on their way to the no-doubt-about-it win.
Helmstetter and Olivia Owtscharuk led the Patriots with perfect 4-for-4 days at the plate.

SOUDERTON 16, SPRINGFIELD TWP 0 (4 innings)
Skyler Byrnes and Ava Detwiler combined on a four-inning no-hitter, and the Indians blew open a close game with a 14-run fourth inning. Byrnes retired the only nine batters she faced, striking out the last six. Detwiler closed it out with a scoreless fourth and had a pair of strikeouts.

Skyler Byrnes (W) (3.0 IP, 0H 0R, 0BB, 6K), Ava Detwiler (1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K)
Key inning: Top of fourth: The 14-run inning began with a Fadden double to lead off the inning, and later in the inning, Fadden hit an RBI triple. Detwiler had a pair of singles and a pair of RBIs. Byrnes helped her own cause with a three-run homer. Tolentino contributed an RBI double, Lewis had a sac fly and RBI single, and adding singles were Jones, Bella Kreyenhagen (2 RBIs) and Nelson.
Souderton coach Tyler Bui: “I wasn’t sure how we would perform with not having played in over a week. We got good pitching, and eight of our players ended up with multiple hits. This was a good start for us to build on as we need to keep trending up if we are going to compete with the talented teams we are about to face in the upcoming weeks.”
–Helping herself: “Skyler Byrnes was very efficient on the mound today. She pounded the plate, and her ball was moving with good velocity. Skyler has been a force on the mound, but she is getting the job done at the plate as well. She hit the ball hard today, going 2-4 with a home run. She drove in 3 runs and scored twice to help her own cause.”
—Props: “Kiera Fadden helped us get things going today. She can hurt you in so many ways with her bat and legs. It’s great to see the confidence she has at the plate right now. It is such a joy to watch her on the field! She is a great player and one of the most fun people to be around. I can’t say enough about how much our coaching staff appreciates her.”
