The Indians are suddenly finding ways to win.
Twenty-four hours after staging an improbable comeback with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Bensalem 8-7, the Indians were back at it again. This time scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to eke out the come-from-behind walk-off win.
“In years past, we’d seem to come out of the gate on fire and then cool off and then either back into the playoffs or not make it at all,” Rock North coach Matt Schram said. “This team has taken the reversal road, which has been fun.
“They’re coming together, they’re working hard. The last two games we were down (late in the game). I always tell them – the game will reward them. As long as they keep playing the right way, it will reward them. Somewhere, somehow it will, and luckily, the last two games it did reward us.”
Jadon Tang singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and Lukas Mullen was safe on an error. With a base open, Nick DiGiacomo was intentionally walked, and Tang scored the game-winner when Brian Curry grounded a single to left field.
Wednesday’s game was the resumption of a game that was suspended after three innings last Friday because of rain. The two teams were deadlocked 1-1 when the game was halted.
“This doesn’t happen a lot,” Schram said. “Typically, in our league, when you have a game that’s halted for rain, more than likely you pick it up in the next day or two, so it’s still fresh in your mind.
“Both us and Truman played two baseball games in between finishing this game, so it really was a unique situation.”
Truman came out smoking on Wednesday, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Caleb Wright singled, and the Tigers had a pair of runners in scoring position when Jayden Gaines followed with a double. A one-out walk loaded the bases, and Wright scored when Aqual Chapman singled. A sac fly by Wyatt Spinks put the Tigers on top 3-1.
Rock North got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Curry and Joe Hughes hit back-to-back singles. The bases were loaded when Will Scibona was hit by a pitch. A two-out walk to Quinn Erlandsen pushed a run across and made it a 3-2 game.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Indians evened the score when Hughes, who lined a single to left to open the inning, scored on Erlandsen’s clutch two-out double. The stage was set for the seventh inning game-winner.
“It was a short game, and Truman must have had film on my pitcher because they were just barreling baseballs left and right the first couple of innings, and he didn’t get rattled,” Schram said of Patrick Dougherty. “He actually got into a zone, started to hit his groove and hit his spots.
“It only was four innings, and the last two innings, he did a good job of containing them. If they would have stayed at that rate, we would have had problems because they came out hot, so that was big.
“Even though he contained them, they were still hitting the ball hard. We were fortunate enough to make some key plays on defense. My shortstop today Quinn Erlandsen did a fantastic job on some balls that were deep in the hole, throwing guys out. He did a nice job.”
Dougherty threw all four innings Wednesday after Jake Ruple tossed the first three on Friday. Dougherty allowed five hits – three in the first inning – and two runs, striking out four and walking one.
Tang (3-for-3, 2B, 1 RBI, 1R) and Hughes (3-for-3, 2B, 1R) led the Indians’ 10-hit attack. Curry was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
For the Tigers, Chapman was 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored. Wright was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Council Rock North (8-8, 6-7 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Thursday, and Harry S Truman (8-7, 6-6) will travel to Neshaminy on Thursday.

Non-league
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 6, SOUDERTON 0
Five PW pitchers – Colin Brady, Kevin Hegerty, Matt Krawitz, Cooper Jones and Jake Rauscher – combined for a four-hit shutout in Wednesday’s
non-league game at Souderton. Brady started and threw three shutout innings to notch the win, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
The Colonials scored all the runs they would need in a two-run first. A walk and hit batter set the stage for Lincoln Sharpe’s two-run double to center field that gave PW a 2-0 lead. They took that lead into the fifth inning when they added two more runs.
Both runs were unearned with the first run scoring on an error and Gavin Rocks delivering a clutch two-out single for the second that put the Colonials on top 4-0.
In the top of the seventh, Ryan Moore led off with a single and Johnny Giordano followed with a double to left. Sam Stolzer grounded a single to right field that plated both baserunners and gave the Colonials their final margin of victory.
Rocks was the lone player with more than one hit, finishing 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (13-3, 11-2 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Thursday, and Souderton (8-9, 6-7) will host North Penn on Thursday.
