PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 5, HOLY GHOST PREP 2
The Colonials picked up their 15th win of the season without a loss – not a bad way to celebrate Senior Day.
“Senior Day is always important because it gives us the chance to recognize the efforts of the guys who have put the most time and
effort into our program,” PW coach Chris Manero said. “We had the opportunity to put a lineup out today that included eight seniors to start, and their contributions were very evident in so many ways.”
Senior Ryan Coscia notched the win on the mound, allowing three hits and one run in four innings while striking out three and walking two.
“Ryan Coscia got his first start of the season and was impressive through four innings,” Manero said. “He’s easy to root for and has been such a model citizen in our program for four years. It was great to see. His fellow seniors Joe Rauscher and Ben Picker were equally effective in relief.
Rauscher struck out a pair in a 1-2-3 fifth inning, and Ben Picker threw the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one and walking two.
The Colonials scored a pair of runs in the second. Anthony Viola tripled and scored when Eddie Owens was safe on an error. Jack Sfida’s RBI single gave the Colonials a 2-0 lead. The Firebirds scored a run in the top of the first, but the Colonials scored two in the bottom of the inning to go on top 4-1.
Joe Jaconski led off the inning with a double to right, and he scored when Jess Jaconski singled. Jack Hildebrand’s sacrifice fly plated a second run, and the Colonials added an unearned run in the fourth.
“Eddie Owens had a nice day at the plate with an early RBI and he also came up with a huge diving catch up the middle to get us out of a tough spot in the sixth inning,” Manero said. “We know that last year’s senior class took the brunt of the pandemic, losing their final season. But, it’s important to remember that the class of 2021 lost out on their important junior year, so to see them have opportunities like today to make some lasting memories is special. They have persevered through a lot and they deserve these moments.”

LA SALLE 13, WISSAHICKON 3
The visiting Trojans plated a run in the first inning without the benefit of a hit to go on top 1-0. It was their only lead of a non-league contest that saw them manage just one hit.
La Salle scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and six in the second to go on top 8-1. The Trojans put two runs on the board in the third, benefitting from two walks and an RBI single from Jackson Tappen.
The Explorers scored four in the bottom of the inning and added a single run in the fifth to bring an early end to the contest.
Wissahickon (9-7, 3-3 SOL) will travel to Abington on Monday.
