UPPER MORELAND 61, HATBORO-HORSHAM 52 (OT)
The Golden Bears trailed by nine entering the fourth quarter but- behind 17 second-half points by Jose Hernandez – rallied to knot the score and then won it in overtime with some impressive foul shooting. Nate Best led the Hawks with 10 points in OT that included an 8-for-10 effort at the foul line. The Owls outscored the Hatter 12-3 in the extra period.
Key players: Sophomore Jose Hernandez led all scorers with 21 points, which included five 3-pointers. Nate Best added 20 points, which included a 10-for-12 effort at the foul line. Kyle Moore also was in double figures with 10 points.
Shane Phillips led the Hatters with 13 points, which included three 3s, and Kenny Lutz had 12 points – eight in the third quarter. Nate Glenn and Jaden Thompson both had nine points.
Upper Moreland coach Dan Heiland:
–The game: “We didn’t get out to a great start. It was a very low scoring half for both teams – it was 19-16 at halftime, and we were down three. In the third quarter, both teams lit it up. They scored 23 and we scored 17, and we were still trailing by (nine). Brody Hughes hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to end the third quarter, and honestly, I think that was kind of what sparked us. The energy that I saw in the team, the bench, the players, the student section – life came back to us. That’s how it felt.
“Then in the fourth quarter, we had some really good scoring opportunities. We were able to pick up pressure in the backcourt and the halfcourt and forced them to turn the ball over, which helped us really close the gap. Kyle Moore hit the game-tying 3 with 1:17 left in regulation to make it 49-49. Cannon Campbell had a great look at the buzzer for a three, and it was just short, so we go into overtime, and in overtime, we kind of took control. They were in a zone most of the night. They picked up pressure at times, but we did a nice job handling it towards the end of the game and were able to get into the paint and able to get layups.
“At that point, they were in the bonus, and they had to foul since we were up. Nate Best did a great job of closing out the game from the free-throw line. He shot 12 free throws tonight, made 10 and he made eight in overtime.”
–Props: “Kyle Moore made the shot that tied it. He played tough defense, and he rebounded well.
“Jose Hernandez had 23 points and led us tonight in scoring. He had five 3-pointers. He had 11 points in the third, and he was clutch down the stretch when we needed it. It was like every time we thought we had them or were getting a stop, they somehow managed to get a good look from three, and it seemed like it just always went in. (Jose Hernandez) made three 3s in the third quarter and allowed us to stay within reach. Jose had 17 of his 23 in the second half and overtime and helped us get back into the game and eventually close it out.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Bill Coleman: “What a great atmosphere for a high school game.”
–The game: “As has been the case all year long, we were solid for 26 minutes. We then stopped rebounding, gave up straight line drives and were fouling because we were out of position.
“Forever being the optimist, we have to continue to work to get to that 32-minute and complete game mark.”

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 44, BRISTOL 42
Sparked by 18 points from Ryan Delp, the visiting Golden Hawks eked out a non-league road win. They led 13-10 after one quarter but trailed by two at halftime. The two teams were deadlocked at 31 apiece heading into the fourth quarter when the Hawks – led by Delp’s six points – outscored their hosts 13-11.
Key players: Ryan Delp led the Hawks with 18 points, which included four 3-pointers. He had nine in each half. Lucian Mirc added 12 points.
Council Rock South coach Jim Cassidy:
–The game: “First, credit to Bristol: they are a talented group, very well coached, and they’ve been a strong program for a very long time.
“We knew coming in that their zone pressure would present a big challenge to us, especially at their place. My coaching staff and I were very honest with the boys at halftime; we needed to step up and meet their intensity, attack the zone, or risk losing one we absolutely needed.”
–Props: “Ryan Delp put us on his back tonight and willed us to victory. He played up top against their zone quite a bit tonight, which is a little bit unusual for him, and so for him to handle the ball that much and only turn it over once is really outstanding. And every time we needed a bucket, he found a way to get us one.
“We really leaned on Lucian Mirc in the second half as well, on both ends of the floor, and he delivered. While Delp and Lu accounted for 30 of our 44 points, Joey Madara’s 9 rebounds were huge as well especially considering their big man’s length and tenacity.”

The host Warriors set the tone for this one in the first quarter, outscoring the Owls 28-8 on their way to the non-league win.
“They beat us in every facit from transition, rebounding, offensive efficiency, to more aggressive on the defensive end than we were,” Bensalem coach Jerry Devine said. “Not very good, especially after a good win against CR North on Tuesday.”
Alex Per’s 11 points led the Owls.
