HATBORO-HORSHAM 49, UPPER MORELAND 31
The Golden Bears – behind six points from Hailey Milks – led 11-10 after one quarter, but the Hatters answered with a 12-4 second quarter to go into halftime with a 22-8 lead. Angelica Visceglia’s eight points led the Hatters in the quarter. She had 10 points in the first half.
The Hatters led 33-25 heading into the fourth quarter when they outscored the Bears 14-6 for the big win in Thursday’s rivalry game.
Key players: Angelica Visceglia led the Hatters with 21 points. Mia Fisher added eight and Sarah Gleason had seven.
For the Golden Bears, Hailey Mils led the way with 12 points – 10 in the first half.
Hatboro-Horsham associate head coach Nicole Miletto:
–The game: “Tonight felt like a must win for us. We were coming off one of our worst performances of the season at Abington on Tuesday. We came out pretty strong in the first quarter, playing good team defense. We struggled again to hit some open shots. Junior Angelica Visceglia gave us a boost tonight. She was missing some long range jumpers but knocked down a couple of big baskets for us to keep us in the game. It was back-and-forth for a while. We got in a little bit of foul trouble when (Madison) Siegfried who is key on our press breakers got her fourth. But the crowd was great. It’s always a good game when you play your crosstown rival.
–Props: “Senior forward Natalie Linn gave us some quality minutes tonight. She came off the bench and had a nice move along the baseline for a basket and then she knocked down a three. She had some great defensive rebounds and really sparked us.
“Senior Madison Duggan and sophomore Sarah Gleason again had a great effort on defense. Gleason helped us on offense, hitting some big shots for us. Those two play 100 percent and give us a great effort every night. Senior Mia Fisher is always consistent for us, and she had some big rebounds tonight and had the task of guarding Milks who was having her way in the first half. Sophomore Ciara Lacey gave us good minutes too tonight on the boards and had a couple of blocks.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham will be on the road at Quakertown Friday, and Upper Moreland will host Cheltenham Tuesday.

LOWER MORELAND 50, FREIRE CHARTER 34
The Lions, who led 12-4 after one quarter, took a 20-16 lead into halftime. They outscored their visitors 19-7 in third quarter with Emma DiJoseph accounting nine of those points, and they never looked back.
Key players: Mollie Martin and Emma DiJoseph both had 13 points to lead the Lions. While Martin scored eight of her points in the first half, DiJoseph had 10 of hers in the second half. Sydney Santora added nine points and Mady Rossiter had eight.
Lower Moreland coach Andy Krasna:
–The game: “Tonight, we struggled finishing layups and went cold from the perimeter, particularly in the second quarter allowing Freire Academy to keep things interesting at halftime. In the first half, we were trying to play at Freire’s lightning-fast pace which led to chaotic possessions, high-volume turnovers, and easy scoring opportunities for Freire. We were attempting to push the ball through heavy traffic and drive through multiple defenders. At times, we failed to read their defense, resulting in poor passes and poor decision making.
“In the second half, we adjusted our offensive tempo in the half court. On defense, we did a great job of denying passes to disrupt their offense, and we forced turnovers which created fast-break opportunities. We were able to finish around the basket in the second half and got the separation that we were looking for.”
–Props: “Sydney Santora drew many defenders on the attack and had some sensational ‘no-look’ passes, finding her teammates in great spots. She also reminded me of Tina Charles tonight (WNBA all-time leading rebounder), coming away with so many tough boards in traffic. Mady Rossiter had a fantastic game setting ball screens for our guards and scoring some timely baskets. She exploited smaller defenders on switches and took advantage of some mismatches after setting ball screens.
“Emily DiJoseph and Mollie Martin were dealing with some very athletic defenders but settled in and adjusted to the speed of the game, carrying the scoring load for us with 13 points each.”

SPRINGFIELD TWP 74, PENNRIDGE 70 (OT)
The Spartans escaped with a win after a high-scoring four-minute overtime that saw the two teams combine for 42 points.
The Rams buried five three in OT with Sam Murphy and Megan Moylan both scoring 10 points, which included two 3-pointers. The Spartans, meanwhile, were 12-for-16 from the foul line in OT. Mary Kate Garry was 4-for-4 from the foul line in OT and scored 12 of her 25 points – which included 2 3s – in the extra period. Ava Culler was 4-for-6 with six points in OT while Julia Guicheteau was 3-for-4 from the line.
Key players: Ava Culler continued her torrid offensive production with a game-high 28 points that included an 8-for-10 effort at the foul line. The senior standout scored 10 first- quarter points as the Spartans opened up a 16-10 lead. She added eight points in the fourth quarter. Mary Kate Gary added 25 points. Keira Brandon also finished in double figures with 11, and Julia Guicheteau added eight.
For the Rams, Madison Lapp had herself a night, finishing with 26 points that included six 3-pointers. Sam Murphy added 18 with four 3s, and Ari Lauf and Megan Moylan both had 10 points. Moylan scored eight of her points – including a pair of 3s – in OT.
Springfield Twp coach Dave Giordano:
–The game: “Another very exciting game tonight. This time with our new friends from Pennridge. It wasn’t for lack of defense on either side but rather hard playing, solid basketball on both sides and certainly a great amount of serious shooting by Pennridge’s Madison Lapp, Megan Moylan and Sam Murphy. It was kind of a duel between those three and Ava Culler, MK Garry and Keira Brandon.
“Pennridge did a real good job with changing their defenses in the first half, confusing us a lot. We finally settled down in the third quarter, and it was back-and-forth right up until an unbelievable shot at the buzzer to tie us at 51. Then the fun began.”
–Overtime: “It was a trade-off between Pennridge’s three-point shooters and our foul shots in a four-minute OT. We put up 23 points, and they countered with 19, and if it wasn’t for our shooting at the foul line, we wouldn’t have escaped with a very exciting 74-70 win. We shot 19- for-26 from the line, and, at the same time, Pennridge made 12 threes during the game.
“Coach Rap does a great job with Pennridge, and they are certainly much better than the record indicates. They’re well coached. They shoot the ball well, and they never gave up. We feel lucky to be on the right side of the scoreboard, and it’s a shame someone had to be on the short end.”
Pennridge coach Jason Rapp:
“Great job tonight by both teams. Not sure that I have ever seen 42 points in a high school overtime.
“It was great high school basketball. Very proud of the effort our girls played with again!”
–Props: “Props to Coach Giordano – he does a great job there! Class act.
“Ava Culler was a beast, and we had no answer for that. And Garry hit some huge shots.
“Madison Lapp was incredible for us tonight. She had 26, ran the show and was all over the floor.
“Sam Murphy and Megan Moylan made some big-time shots in the overtime, and Ari Lauf and Jules Lenox battled.”
