Non-league
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 49, INTERBORO 39
On the heels of an overtime win over New Hope-Solebury less than 24 hours earlier, the Spartans took an early lead in Saturday’s contest and stayed strong throughout the game on their way to the non-league win.
“I was pleased with how they continued their momentum from last night and didn’t have a drop off,” coach Rob Fusaro said. “We started off a little stronger in the beginning, which is good, and finished out strong.”
Dylan McKenzie jumpstarted the Spartans, scoring eight first-quarter points and propelling Springfield to a 15-11 lead. The two teams were deadlocked at halftime. McKenzie accounted for 13 of his team’s 24 first-half points.
The Spartans led by three heading into the final quarter when – behind eight points from Brett Smith – they outscored their visitors 14-7.
McKenzie’s 22 points and six rebounds led the Spartans while Miles Goodwin added 11 and Smith had nine. Goodwin also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
“They did a box-and-one on Dylan, and other guys stepped up and ran our offense, got good shots around the rim and finished,” Fusaro said. “Miles and Brett did a nice job stepping up.”
