Continental Conference
Hatboro-Horsham 47, North Penn 44
The Hatters closed out conference play with a hard fought win on the Knights’ home court, avenging a 48-41 loss to North Penn in the initial meeting between the two teams.
“This was important,” coach Ed Enoch said. “The game was nip and tuck. They had a couple of six-point leads, but my kids – I give them credit – we came down and made a shot when we had to, and we’d get a stop, and the next thing you’d know it would be a one-point game.
“It kind of hovered around there a lot, and then in the fourth period, we got up by five at one point, and give them credit – they came back at us. It came down to a foul shooting contest at the end, and we made foul shots. They had a shot to tie it at the buzzer, and luckily for us, it didn’t go in.”
Stepping up at the charity stripe was Clifton Moore, who buried two big foul shots to put the Hatters on top by three with time winding down. Pat Haggerty also connected on a pair of critical foul shots.
Moore had a huge game under the basket, finishing with 13 rebounds and five blocked shots to go along with six points. Brian McEachern led all scorers with 19 points.
“Brian was just really solid again,” Enoch said. “You kind of take him for granted, but he had another real good game for us.”
The Knights led 12-11 after one quarter and still led by one (19-18) at the intermission. Not a whole lot changed in the second half.
Jared Melone led the Knights with 13 points while Kyle Hulmes had 12. Cordell Lord added eight.
The Hatters (10-11) and Knights (11-11) both closed out league play with identical 6-8 records.
“We lost a lot of close games, and to finish on a good note – we’ve lost a number of games that were identical to the way this game was playing out, and to finish it off and win it – I was really happy for my kids. 6-8 sounds a lot better than 5-9.”
The Hatters will close out the regular season with a non-league game against Perkiomen Valley on Friday.
