NORTH PENN 15, BOYERTOWN 5
A varied attack, along with stingy defense, helped North Penn pick up its first win of the season as it knocked off Boyertown in a non-league game Tuesday.
The Knights, now 1-1, jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one quarter and had a 10-2 cushion by halftime en route to the victory.
Conor Young paced the offense with a game-high five goals and Danny Pay netted a hat trick for the Knights. Lucas Yannul and Jake Homan each contributed a pair of tallies while R.J. Macnamara, Matt Dickson and Jake Bavuso each had one goal. Will Morrow won a whopping 20 face-offs for the Knights.
Bryon Rimmer had four saves in goal during his stint in net while Ryan Bausman added two saves.
North Penn plays at Wissahickon on Thursday (5:45 p.m.).

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 11, FATHER JUDGE 0
Shutouts are rare in the world of lacrosse, but the Spartans notched one in Tuesday’s season opener. Coach Hank Resch credited defenders Sullivan Shackleford, Andrew Leiberman and Dylan Donnelly for playing well as a unit.
Paul Asman and Caleb Jones combined for the shutout in goal with Asman playing three quarters and Jones closing out the game.
Paul Richardson scored four goals to lead the Spartans’ attack. Nic Pugliese and Brennan Fluehr each added a pair of goals. Wilson Krewson, Austin Maggioncalda and Trey DuBose all added one goal. Krewson and Fluehr each added an assist for the Spartans, who led 5-0 at halftime.
Springfield Township (1-0) will travel to Neshaminy Thursday for a non-league game.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 8, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 7
Central Bucks West took a one-goal lead into the final quarter but needed a late rally to hand host West Chester Henderson an 8-7 defeat in a non-league game Tuesday.
The Bucks, now 2-0, trailed 7-6 in the fourth quarter before David Ross tied things up and Christian Kunkle then added the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining in regulation. The Bucks held on for the hard-fought win.
“We controlled the ball for a decent amount of time, but they were pressing out and we were kind of in kill mode, trying to run out the clock,” senior Erik Ojert said.
“All the credit to West Chester Henderson,” CB West coach Matt Coverdale said. “They have top-notch athletes, and they definitely brought it. They were hungry. It was a physical game. It went back and forth a bit at times. We’re glad our guys kept their composure and had the discipline to capture the victory.
“Our guys showed a lot of discipline and showed a lot of character in order to complete the victory for us.”
Coverdale praised the play of offensive captain Erik Ojert, who was credited with six ground balls and three assists.
“We were giving him the ball when we were under pressure,” Coverdale said. “When we called timeout late in the game to keep the ball on offense and burn three-and-a-half minutes essentially at the end of the game to maintain the lead, Erik did a lot of the hard work. He did a lot of the heavy lifting.
“Coming out of the half, we had a flag down situation where we gave him the ball to make sure we would keep the ball and were able to use a man-up opportunity. (Late in the game), he took a lot of punishment as they tried to get the ball back, and the flags were kept in the pocket of the refs in the last few minutes since it was a one-goal game.”
The Bucks’ coach also had high praise for his defensive captain, Blake Ewaskey, who also had six ground balls.
“Blake Ewaskey was another workhorse for us,” Coverdale said. “Several of his ground balls helped Garrett Hitchens get on the edge on the face-off X. He always gets the matchup on the best player as our top defender and our defensive captain. He absolutely deserves a lot of credit. He got kudos from the other coaching staff after the game too.”
Ojert, who had two goals and two assists in the Bucks season-opening win over Rustin, is the Bucks’offensive leader, but he had high praise for his teams defense.
“Our defense definitely helped us,” he said. “Max (Dunar) always has a great game in net. Our defense just communicated and stepped up when we needed them to, and our offense anchored down, and we were able to get ahead and hold onto it.”
The Bucks, who trailed 2-1 after won quarter, found themselves deadlocked 3-3 at halftime.
“It was a very back and forth game,” Ojert said. “We had a run in the third quarter where we went up 6-3, by the end we were up one (6-5). It was just back and forth the whole game.
“This (win) was huge for us. It’s always great starting out 2-0, and it just gives us confidence going into the season. I think we can ride off of these two wins and keep them going."
Dunar recorded 10 saves in a winning effort in goal
Hitchens won 10-of-18 face-offs.
Kunkle, Ross and Conor Albrecht each had two goals for the Bucks while Hitchens and Jeff Woosnam had one each. Albrecht and Jake Ojert each had an assist.
Colin Baker was credited with four ground balls.
Central Bucks West (2-0) will host Upper Moreland on Saturday in a non-league game.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 9, HATBORO-HORSHAM 4
Central Bucks East used a solid team effort to record a 9-4 victory over host Hatboro-Horsham in a non-league game Tuesday.
Ryan Eife paced the Patriots with a game-high four goals while Ryan Carroll was next with three. Jimmy Knepp and Ryan Gray each added single tallies in the victory. Gray, Carroll and Ben Yerkes each had an assist.
Central Bucks East, which received five faceoff wins from Jake Kueny and four from Evan Bullotta, led 4-2 at halftime before sealing things with a five-goal third quarter.
Liam Rosenthal (five saves) and Ryan Kueny (two saves) shared time in goal for the Patriots.
Ryan Stout was credited with a team-high five ground balls and also had one caused turnover. Kueny had four ground balls and led the Patriots with three caused turnovers. Eife also had three ground balls and one caused turnover. Yerkes had two ground balls and one caused turnover. Joey Beahan had two ground balls. Finishing with one ground ball each were Gray, Carroll, Nock Walter and Connor Martin. Carroll, Yerkes, Martin and Evan Bulotta each had one caused turnover.
For the Hatters, Jason Kleintz had two goals and two ground balls while Michael Brown and Nic Cerminara each had one goal. Ian Reilley chipped in an assist to go along with three ground balls. Davis Wheeler was credited with four ground balls.
Joe Brophy recorded nine saves in goal for the Hatters.
The Patriots (1-1) play at Wilson on Thursday (4 p.m.) in a non-league game. Hatboro-Horsham (1-1) will be on the road at Council Rock South Thursday for a non-league game.

GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 10, UPPER DUBLIN 6
The Flying Cardinals and Patriots were deadlocked 1-1 early, but the Patriots reeled off five unanswered goals to go on top 6-1. They led the rest of the way.
Lucas Roselli, Colin Asper, Nolan Reape, Brian McCarry, Jason Scott and Zach Young scored one goal each for the Cardinals. Jason Williams had an assist.
Sam Hoffman was credited with 11 saves in goal for the Cardinals.
Upper Dublin (0-1) will host Kennett in a non-league game Thursday.

QUAKERTOWN 12, BETHLEHEM LIBERTY 11 (OT)
Quakertown improved to 2-0 on the young season with a win over Bethlehem Liberty on Monday, a victory that had a familiar ring to it.
Why?
Because the Panthers also won their opener against Pleasant Valley on Friday by a 12-11 count in overtime.
Jeff Royall led the way against Liberty with four goals (including the game-winner in overtime) and three assists while Ben McGann had three goals and also added a helper. Jake Lewis contributed a pair of goals.
“Overall, we weren’t as sharp as we needed to be,” Quakertown coach Travis Eckler said. “But we found a way to grind out another win. And (goalie) Tyler Barnes made some big saves when we needed them later in the game.”
Quakertown will host Pottsgrove in a non-league game Wednesday.
