UPPER DUBLIN 8, HAVERFORD 6
The Flying Cardinals displayed some impressive offense and stifling defense en route to a 5-1 lead after one quarter, and they took a 6-3 lead into halftime over the visiting Fords.
“We started off strong – the defense played really well, and the offensive players got into an early groove,” UD coach Pat Lacon said. “So everyone was clicking together, which was great.
“They rebounded nicely from the other night (a 7-6 loss to Downingtown West) to really get their feet underneath them and move around the field with a purpose. There was a really nice sense of strong energy out there.”
The Fords came roaring back in the second half to knot the score 6-6, but the Cardinals were able to close it out.
“There were again some simple mistakes – we’ll call self-inflicted mistakes, and anytime we play a really good team, teams will capitalize on those mistakes,” Lacon said. “After capitalizing on one, they were able to capitalize the second, and they started to take momentum back.”
The Flying Cardinals were led offensively by the hat tricks of Brett Rama and Vijay Foster. Andrew Sowers added a pair of goals.
Lacon lauded the play of Rama and Foster as well as several defensemen.
“I thought Jake Rossman played really strong,” the UD coach said. “Patrick Tucker, another defenseman, played really well.
“We grew from last game to this game. We had a strong practice yesterday and hopefully will continue to learn and to get stronger along the way.”
Nate Fechter recorded seven saves in a winning effort in goal for UD.

They outscored their hosts 4-1 in the second half.

“He took 14 of 17 face-offs to change the game of possession and momentum,” Souderton coach Mark Cornes said.
