CONESTOGA 63, PENNSBURY 60
Pennsbury traveled to Berwyn Saturday afternoon for a matinee against Central League power, Conestoga. The Pioneers raced out to a 7-0 lead, but the Falcons countered with a burst of their own to take a 14-13 at the end of one frame.
The second quarter was more of the same as the teams exchanged leads. Pennsbury took a 34-33 lead into the break, thanks to 14 points by Brayden Clark and 13 by fellow sophomore, Pat Jajua. Conestoga overtook the Falcons in the third to take a 53-49 lead into the fourth. Pennsbury’s missed three at the buzzer was the difference.
Key players: Brayden Clark (19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists), Pat Jajua (27 points), Max Manga (8 points, 8 rebounds)
Conestoga Ty’gee Clark finished with 23 and Cory Hogan had 13.
Pennsbury coach Wes Emme:
–On the game: “Got a chance to play the (defending) district champions, an opportunity for a measuring stick game early in the year, and while they were down some important pieces, they still behave and act like champions.
“I thought we played exceptional in spurts yet just made a few more mistakes than they did. Patrick Jajua had a special shot making performance, and Brayden Clark was also very good, particularly in transition, and after falling behind 7-0, we were able to build a lead early with some big-time plays, particularly from those two.
“Conestoga never went away. We had 5-6 point leads but could never extend. Cory Hogan is one of the best passing forwards and an incredibly intelligent player that can really pick you apart and make you play honest, and the addition of Ty’Gee Clark is just another dynamic to an already really strong team.
“I think the difference was their role players were highly effective and hit some crucial 3s that forced us to really play much more honest.
“Hopeful this is the kind of game that drives us forward.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 47, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 32
The Patriots took on the host team at Germantown Academy’s Make A Wish event and pretty much led wire to wire, opening up a 27-10 lead by halftime and extending its advantage to 22 points heading into the final quarter.
Point guard Haley Moran’s seven points propelled the Patriots to a 12-5 lead after one quarter while Nat Berndt and Jess Lockwood’s five points each led the Patriots in the second quarter.
The Patriots were 5 of 6 from the charity stripe in the third quarter and a perfect 6-for-6 in the fourth. Delaney Long accounted for six of East’s points in the fourth quarter, which included a 4-for-4 effort at the foul line.
For the game, East connected on 13 of 14 from the foul line.
Key players: Haley Moran’s 17 points included a 5-for-5 effort at the foul line. Jess Lockwood added 11 points and five rebounds. Emma Penecale had eight rebounds and four assists.
Central Bucks East coach Liz Potash:
–On the game: “It’s a really nice win. They’re huge. When we were watching them on film, that was the biggest thing. We’re not huge, but we battled. We were up 37-15 going into the fourth and then they outscored us 17-10. It definitely got dicey in the fourth. They cut it as low as eight, and then when we got to the line – we went 6-for-6 in the quarter. Delaney Long had six of her eight points in the fourth quarter. They’re really physical and they’re big. All the other factors aside, I knew we could play with them, but it was going to come down to rebounding.
“And that’s what we told the girls. I think when I looked at our stats – they had nine offensive rebounds, but honestly, I can live with that. When we watched them on film, they would get two and three chances every possession, and they would eventually finish them. They have kids that go hard after the ball, and our kids did not back down. Emma Penecale doesn’t score a lot of points, so it’s not always things that come up, but she led us in rebounds. Emma’s playing kids that are five, six, seven inches bigger than her, and she’s just physical. Jess Lockwood was incredibly physical too. It got physical, but our kids did not back down.
“It’s a really nice win, and I’m proud of the girls for the way they just kept battling. Easton was huge, and we were able to pull out a win there, and GA’s got some size as well, so it’s nice to see all these different styles of teams and to know we can play with them.”
Up next: Central Bucks East will host Souderton in a division contest Tuesday.

She’s Got Game Tournament (Washington, D.C.)
WILLIAM FLEMING 41, NESHAMINY 29
The Redskins led 9-4 after one quarter, but the Colonels used a 12-4 second quarter to go into halftime with a 16-13 lead. The Colonels outscored the Redskins 25-16 in the second half on their way to the win.
Hayley Kolk’s nine points led the Redskins.
Neshaminy coach John Gallagher:
–The game: “The staff and I were very pleased with the way our team competed on the defensive end. Fleming presented us with numerous challenges with matchups up and down their lineup. In the same sense, they presented us with challenges on our offensive end of the floor. These challenges were not as fruitful as we had hoped for. Amari Worsham, who signed with the Liberty University Flames earlier this year, was a handful on both ends of the floor. Amari was joined by several outstanding wings and a 6-3 center who we had to account for. Our intensity was excellent throughout the contest, but their ability to consistently goad us into unforced turnovers was our Achilles’ heel. We had two offensive rebounds and 19 turnovers which was our downfall.
“I believe holding a team like that to just 41 points is a positive; but missing makeable shots and turnovers are something we can improve upon. The disappointment of losing stings, but we improved today and that is what I want to take away from this game.”
–Props: “To the tournament directors at ‘She Got Game’ for supplying us with a challenging opponent and filling the seats with numerous college coaches with their eyes on our players. We got a ton of exposure and at the same time were challenged by a Virginia state finalist who made us work extremely hard on both ends of the floor. Our goal traveling here today was not to lose to a talented and well-coached team, but rather to come together in a challenging atmosphere to better prepare us for the road ahead.”
