Girls
PENNSBURY 17, QUAKERTOWN 5
Annie Price scored five goals and teammate Lily Nolan also had a five-point night, scoring four goals and assisting on another, to lead the Falcons to a much-needed win.
“This was huge for them,” coach Shannon MacPherson said. “They’ve had a very tough season, and they’ve done good things. They’ve had awesome plays, and the defense has been holding up strong back there, but we haven’t been consistent for an entire game.
“Today we were consistent for a whole game, and it just showed what we’re capable of when we play an entire game. We were able to run plays, the girls all worked together. It was a full team effort today. They didn’t give up at all. They just kept playing and played their best today. They haven’t given up all season, and I think today just showed what they’ve been working on all season.”
Thursday’s win was just the second of the season for the Falcons.
“For the most part, they have really stayed positive,” MacPherson said. “We’re all bummed out when we lose, but they come right back to practice or games the next day. It’s a brand new day, and they just start all over again and go from there.
“I think the biggest thing with them is they learn from what they did in the past and they learn from their mistakes in games, and that’s what they build upon. We had a tough game yesterday against North Penn, and we had really great points in that game. Today we fully executed our plays. Our biggest thing has been turnovers, and today we took care of the ball. We transitioned well, we took care of the ball on attack, we were able to settle the ball and hold it and just work through the plays, and everyone was a big part of that.”
MacPherson credited senior captain Amelia Sharp and junior captains Nolan and Price for keeping the team together when things got tough.
“They’ve done a really nice job of keeping everyone’s heads up,” MacPherson said. “The three of them have really kept everything in focus for the girls and kept them striving to work together as a team and to come out the next day – you need to come out and play hard regardless of what happened the day before. That’s kind of been our goal this season – fix our mistakes, and every day is new day. You just have to play that game to your best and take care of the ball.”
In addition to Price and Nolan, Emelie Curtis had two goals and three assists for a five-point night. Brooke Weaver and Sharp also both had a pair of goals, and Natalie Ward and Caitlyn Doyle each added a goal. Mia Doron had one assist.
