HARRY S TRUMAN 5, CONWELL EGAN 4
Edwin Teah put the Tigers on the scoreboard 90 seconds into Saturday’s annual non-league game against neighboring rival Conwell Egan. It marked the beginning of a productive day for the Tigers’ offense, but the pesky Eagles kept it close until the final horn.
“We’re trying to build up a local rivalry,” coach Jack Kinloch said. “We had the jayvees play at nine o’clock to make it an all-morning affair.
“We have some newer players, Ed Teah (a junior transfer from Abraham Lincoln) being one of them, and that’s his third goal this year. He’s a godsend. We defended well the last two years, we’re very good in the middle of the park, but the last two years we absolutely struggled up top. We never had an out and out attacking threat. Ed and Preston (Gray) are both new to the team, and they give us a dynamic element up front that we haven’t had in the past.”
A goal by Conwell Egan’s Brendan Held knotted the scored, but Preston Gray and CJ Ward scored back-to-back goals in an eight-minute span to put the Tigers on top 3-1. The Eagles took some momentum into the intermission when Jack Barreras buried a penalty kick late in the half to make it a 3-2 game.
A goal by Badr Fask put the Tigers on top 4-2, but the Eagles refused to go away, trimming that lead to one after Barreras converted his second penalty kick of the game. With four minutes remaining in regulation, Teah connected for his second goal of the game to give the Tigers some breathing room, but a minute later Trevor Dykes scored to pull the Eagles to within one. That 5-4 score held until the final whistle.
Badr had a hand in four goals, scoring one and assisting on three others. Diego Rodriguez had a pair of assists.
“Badr was all over the place, and (Diego) was very, very influential,” Kinloch said. “They were very dynamic. Diego was dynamic in the middle of the field, and Badr was dynamic giving us some width and getting up and down the field.
“Badr is on that 4×100 (relay) team that went to states. He’s a terrific soccer player, and he brings an element of pace that teams often have a difficult time controlling, and he translates it to soccer. We have kids that are fast, but he’s fast on the ball as well. He had an outstanding game today, and he’s a great kid too.”
The win came on the heels of a 4-0 loss to Council Rock North in Truman’s SOL opener Wednesday.
“We did very well actually in the Council Rock North game,” Kinloch said. “It was 1-0 in the 68th minute, and we attacked very well in that game.
“We continued that again today. We were very good on attack, but the ball was going in the net this time. We had some defensive lapses that we certainly need to take care of before we get back in league play against Council Rock South.”
Harry S Truman (2-1, 0-1 SOL) will host Upper Moreland in a non-league game on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
“We have the non-league game on Monday, but the National and Continental are just brutal, difficult conferences to play in, so getting that confidence and getting to goal – we did as well today as we did against Council Rock North in terms of attack,” Kinloch said. “I’m very, very happy with the way we’re going forward. We definitely need to tighten up a little more in the back.”
Conwell Egan 1-3 4
Harry S Truman 3-2 5
SOUDERTON 1, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1 (2 OT)
Tommy Sonn scored on a free kick in the fifth minute, and the Indians held that 1-0 lead until the final minute of regulation when the visiting Crusaders scored, sending the game into overtime which could not determine a winner.
“With under a minute on a counterattack, they threw numbers forward, and they kind of got in behind our center backs and pushed a goal past our goalie,” coach Matt Benner said of LC’s equalizer. “I thought in the first half we came out a little bit stronger than them and had a little bit the better of play.
“To their credit, they played very, very well in the second half. They rallied at halftime, started to get more opportunities and really, really made a game of it. I thought it was a very balanced, good hard fought game between two local teams. It was a good high school soccer game.
“It had everything. It had physical play, it had late-game drama. We had a couple of chances in overtime, but their keeper came up with a great save or the shot went just wide. It was a very entertaining game. I think a tie was probably deserved, but obviously, we were hoping to close it out.”
Benner was pleased to see his team convert a free kick into a goal.
“It was a routine foul on them in the midfield, and our senior defender Tommy Sonn takes a lot of our long restarts,” the Indians’ coach said. “We’ve been telling him to try and drive the ball in the box and give our guys a chance to get on the end of it and make the goalie work a little bit.
“He actually hit it a little bit harder than I guess we all thought, and the wind caught it and it drifted in. It was good to get off to a good start like that.”
Benner was pleased with his team’s overall effort.
“I thought we had good contributions from a lot of players,” the Indians’ coach said. “I’ve been really, really pleased with how our back line has played.
“Even though we gave up three goals to East on Friday, I thought our back line has been challenging balls and tackling hard. I thought Abbel Carranza and Ben Campman – two of our other seniors on the back line – especially had a really good day.”
Souderton goalie Mitchell Race recorded six saves in goal.
Souderton (1-1-1, 1-1 SOL) is off until Thursday when it will host Pennridge at 6:30 p.m.

NESHAMINY 3, WISSAHICKON 0
The Redskins rolled to a convincing shutout win over the visiting Trojans.
“We played great team defense, preventing Wissahickon from getting any shots on goal,” coach Tom Foley said.
Matt Leonhauser scored his fourth consecutive goal when he converted a Joe Indellicato pass that put the ‘Skins on top in the fifth minute. Neshaminy took that 1-0 lead into the half.
In the 44th minute, Christian Rodgers pounded home a rebound of a Kevin Sheenan free kick, and then it was Leonhauser picking up his second goal – and fifth in two games – when he volleyed home a Mike Madia cross.
“Everyone who played today contributed to a total team win,” Foley said. “We moved the ball well and continued to play strong team defense.
“It was nice to beat a solid, well-coached team like Wissahickon.”
Neshaminy (2-0-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Abington on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Wissahickon (3-1, 2-0) will host Upper Dublin Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 0
Goalkeeper Kristen Obetz notched her third shutout in four games, and the Patriots received the only goal they would need with Riley Kane scored on a deflected service from Marissa Plack in the 30th minute. East took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Julie Beedle scored in the 71st minute with an assist from Riley Kane for the 2-0 final.
Coach Paul Eisold had high praise for a pair of defenders.
“Anna Bound played as a warrior on the outside back, and Katie Bloom was stellar defending a dangerous forward from West Chester Henderson,” the Patriots’ coach said.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, CONWELL EGAN 2
The visiting Indians eked out a non-league win over the Eagles on the heels of Friday’s rivalry game against Council Rock South.
“After a tough game against CR South yesterday, it was impressive to see the girls fight for the victory,” coach Gavin Flanagan said. “Girls who maybe haven’t played a lot of minutes so far helped us out today.
“We went deep into our roster and got great effort from a lot of players.”
Caroline Erlandsen scored an unassisted goal in the 35th minute with an assist from Madison Nusca. Brooke Strobel converted a penalty kick for the Indians’ second goal in the 66th minute, and Riley Sheehy closed out the scoring in the 79th minute, using a Kaleigh O’Donnell assist.
“Madison Nusca and Riley Sheehy made direct contributions to the score, but it was truly a group effort to get the win in our first back-to-back of the season,” Flanagan said. “Conwell Egan was organized and played a high line that caused us problems.
“We talked about how we needed to attack, and it was pleasing to see us create goals from those adjustments. Brooke Strobel was a threat all game, and the effort from Becca Margolis and Abby Kollar helped push us over the line.”
Goalkeeper Holland Moriarty recorded six saves in the win.
Council Rock North (3-1, 1-1 SOL) will host Bensalem on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
PENNSBURY 2, UNIONVILLE 0
The Falcons scored a goal in each half, and that was more than enough to defeat the Indians. Goalkeeper Kerry Phillips recorded two saves to lead the Falcons to their third shutout in four games.
Jenna Peters turned an Evie Ciaccia pass into the goal in the 25th minute, and Lizzy Kirk tacked on an insurance goal in the 66th minute, using a Peters assist.
