Check out the recaps for SOL field hockey teams in action Thursday.
Non-league
Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, Council Rock South 1 (OT)
After surrendering the first goal of the game in the first half, Plymouth Whitemarsh knotted the score on a Bridget Fullerton goal in the fourth quarter, then won Thursday’s thrilling crossover game against Council Rock South when Gracie Kerns scored off a Kate Dobrowolski setup in overtime.
Scoring Summary
First Quarter
No scoring
Second Quarter
Council Rock South goal, 10:55
Third Quarter
No scoring
Fourth Quarter
Bridget Fullerton (PW), 9:18
Overtime
Gracie Kerns (PW), Kate Dobrowolski assist, 8:02
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Charise Halteman: “PW struggled to get into a rhythm against CR South despite great individual effort and skill. CR South got on the board first with a hard hit from outside the circle that was touched by an attacker that caught PW defenders unawares during the second quarter.
On the Colonials’ two goals: “Despite a great deal of offensive pressure, it would take until the fourth quarter for us to capitalize on a corner strike by Bridget Fullerton to tie the game. Gracie Kerns would score the game-winner in overtime off another corner play, slamming the ball into the cage after it crossed in front of the goalkeeper from Kate Dobrowolski.:
Props: “Goalkeeper Carly Spinner had three saves in cage.”
Next up: PW (10-4 overall, 6-2 Liberty) will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Upper Dublin at 7 pm Wednesday. South (6-6-3, 4-4 Patriot) will host Pennsbury at 7 pm Tuesday.

Abington 0, George School 0 (OT)
Abington honored its six seniors – Sophia Afflisio, Isabelle Franklin, Natalie Neumann, Rory Trainer, Ellie Stelacio, and Caitlin Murcar – in Senior Day festivities, then battled nonleague opponent George School to a scoreless tie on Thursday.
Abington coach Janine Beal: “Today was a really fun game with a very talented George School team. Both teams played hard for all of regulation, as well as the 10-minute overtime. We could not have asked for a better team or opponent to give us a great game for our Senior Day. I feel our whole team contributed today and left everything on the field. The game was evenly matched and saw both teams play hard and all-out until the end of overtime.”
Props: “Junior forwards Maeve Link, Janice Coonahan, and Brooke Dougherty contributed heavily offensively in moving the ball up the field and getting shots on goal. Junior mids Carly Hughes and Danika D’Angelo made a lot of key plays in the midfield to help keep the ball up in the circle for us. They showed great hustle in getting down the field to make some key defensive stops, as well.
“Senior defensive back Sophia Afflisio and sophomore defensive center Morgan Gillette played a key role in helping prevent George School from getting many offensive opportunities or goals.
“Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Murcar recorded the shutout for Abington.”
Next up: Abington (6-8-1 overall, 2-6 Liberty) will visit Germantown Academy at 3:30 pm Monday.

Bensalem 1, Conwell Egan Catholic 0
Chloe Masciantonio scored off a setup from Veronica Lennon as Bensalem topped Conwell Eagan Catholic 1-0 in Thursday’s nonleague game.
Scoring Summary
Chloe Masciantonio (B), from Veronica Lennon (1-0)
Bensalem coach Gary Kubik: “I really thought we dominated the play today, the possession, and the chances, but we’re still unable to finish in the circle. At each break I continually reminded them that we’re a bad bounce or a bad call away from a tie game. Fortunately, we were able to withstand any pressure from Conwell Egan and hold on for the victory. It was a very good defensive effort by the whole team today, which led to our fifth shutout of the year.”
Props: “Chloe Masciantonio got her second goal of the year today off a beautifully placed ball from Veronica Lennon. Lennon has two assists in the last three games but has really raised her play in the last few weeks. She’s dominating the middle of the field and making beautiful runs three or four times a game. She, along with Giuliana Pasquarella, have shored up their play in the middle, and are moving the ball well down the field.”
Next up: Bensalem (5-9 overall, 2-6 Patriot) will host William Tennent at 7 pm Monday.
