BENSALEM 2, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
The Indians and Owls met for a division battle that also was the two teams’ first Morgan’s Message game to bring awareness to mental health in sports.
Neither team scored in the first half. A goal by McKenzie Pyle (Nicole Papp assist) put the Indians on top 1-0 late in the third period. The Owls rallied to knot the score when Ava Grayo scored using a Lily Lendzinski assist. Leah Vorgity broke the tie with 3:40 remaining when she scored an unassisted goal that turned out to be the game-winner.

Bensalem and Council Rock North got together for their first Morgan’s Message game, and Bensalem walked away with the 2-1 win. Both teams really clogged up the middle, so the chances were few and far between. With 4:00 minutes left on the third quarter, McKenzie Pyle finished one after a scramble out front of goaltender Hailey Fricke. Fricke was able to get a beautiful diving wrist breaker to clear the ball out wide, but Nicole Papp found Pyle in front and she slid it home. That score held until 10:37 left in the game when Lily Lendzinski was able to find an open Ava Grayo out in front. Grayo slammed that ball into the back of the cage, and it was all tied up at one. That was senior Grayo’s third goal of the year, she also has three assists. It was looking like we were headed to overtime, but Leah Vorgity must have had some homework to do. With just 3:40 remaining in the game, Vorgity collected a Kylie Blank rebound and delivered it past the North goalie.
The victory gave the Owls their eighth win of the season, the highest win total in at least 20 years, and they still have four more games to play. The Owls out-cornered their opponent 13-2 and held most of the possession throughout the game. This game was a tester, and it was a measure of the quality of character this team has.
But this game wasn’t really about the game. Both teams came together to spread the word of mental health in sports. To spread Morgan’s Message. Morgan’s Message is a group with a mission to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and to normalize conversations about mental health for all student-athletes. The two teams came together after the game and took nine seconds of silence in memory of Morgan Rodgers. It’s about talking and listening and supporting each other as we go through this life.
Thanks to Council Rock North and their head coach Jules Singer for making this first Morgan’s Message game a success!

“Tonight, forwards Mia Brooks and Maci Fox did a nice job in the second half to generate offense— they were cutting back, carrying the ball with speed and giving us opportunities in the circle to score. Keira Secoda stepped up well at left mid. And defenders Taylor Tenaglia and Delaney Mee continually stepped from the back controlling the play. As a team, we did a better job tonight closing the gaps on the field, stepping to the ball and supporting each other. We have three games left —our goal is to finish the season strong and continue to play together as a team.”

Central Bucks South coach Steph Bardell:
“Battled the full 70 minutes of hockey tonight. It was nice to get our forward line back from injuries, our spine of the field had a great game keeping the ball moving for us. Emily Aldrich coming up with two goals when we needed them, Jenna Butler and Ella Marchesi controlling the midfield, followed by Sophia Kraft helped keep our team aggressive throughout the game.
“We had bright moments – we just need to get those touches going in the right direction. Our defensive unit
Sophia Hurley, Grace Helsel, Hailey Finn and Ryann VanDerSluis led by Kraft, did great getting the ball out of our circle on their corners. They were able to also lock it down within our 25 in the second half and that helped our team keep the momentum going forward.”
Central Bucks East coach Emma Rosenthal:
“It’s tough to tie when you start the game up 2-0, but I’m proud of us for hanging on in overtime and not letting the loss of momentum turn into a loss of the game.
“Brynn Bonargo and Emerson McFeely had some really great runs on the attack, and both found the back of the cage. We had a really focused practice yesterday and adjusted well to some changes we made between Saturday’s game and tonight’s.

With five games left in the regular season, we’re excited about the opportunity in front of us and eager to see what this group can accomplish as we chase a postseason spot.”

“I also want to recognize our entire team on their defensive prowess this game. Their commitment, communication, and teamwork continues to improve with each game, and tonight was another example of the growth this group has shown throughout the season. PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 4, QUAKERTOWN 3 (OT)
What a difference a month makes.
A month and three days after falling to the Panthers 5-2, the Colonials rallied from behind in Monday’s rematch to knot the score in regulation and then won it in overtime on a goal by Gracie Kerns with a Kayleigh Boland assist.
With the win, the two teams share the top spot in the SOL Liberty Division with two division games remaining.
“We started the season and we played Boyertown, we played Mount (St. Joseph), we played Quakertown, and we had some position things to figure out,” said PW coach Charise Halteman, whose team was 1-3 out of the gate. “Our goalkeepers were new, so it was kind of like beginning of the season mistakes and trying to figure out where people play best and navigating some of those things.
“Because we finished at the top of the league the last two years, we have a good schedule. We played Downingtown West, we played CB West, we played Neshaminy, and I think we had a lot of opportunities to play good teams and learn a lot about ourselves. We’ve played overtime games before, and we knew how we wanted to play.”
It took some late-game heroics to get to overtime after the visiting Panthers erased a 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals in the third period. Included in that span were a pair of goals –one each from Paige Longacre and Sunny Draper – in a 25-second span and a third by Longacre (Draper assist) later in the frame.
“We got kind of caught off guard at the beginning of the third quarter,” Halteman said. “Obviously, Sunny is a really good player and has hard hits. She has a phenomenal reverse shot from the top of the circle that she can put in the back corner.”
The Colonials evened the score in the fourth. Kerns converted a penalty stroke, and Julz Scherzer connected on the equalizer with 6:24 remaining in regulation.
“Credit to my team – they didn’t hang their heads,” Halteman said. “They just kept fighting. We’ve been down and had tied games and gone into overtime before, so we just kind of trusted the process.”
Quakertown goalie Darcy Baxter recorded over 20 saves in a strong outing.
“Darcy Baxter played her heart out,” Halteman said. “She had some amazing saves. She had one in the first half the was awesome. She really played well.”
The loss was the first of the season for the Panthers, who brought a 13-game winning streak into Monday’s game.

–The goals: “Senior Gracie Kerns, led the team offensively scoring the first goal of the game in the second quarter (3:32) to put the Colonials up 1-0. Quakertown came out of halftime and put pressure on defense, scoring two quick goals (9:06 and 8:41) and a third with 4:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter. We were able to regroup and dominated the fourth quarter. A penalty stroke was awarded at the 12:18 mark and Kerns put that one away to bring the Colonials within one. Julz Scherzer scored at the 6:24 mark during a corner play by finishing a rebound into the back of the cage. PW was able to control most of the play in overtime and Kayleigh Boland was able to find Kerns up the field for a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Gracie maintained her composure and waited for the goalie to dive before pulling around and finishing.”
–Props: “Gracie ended up having three goals, so that was huge. She’s just such a competitor, and many times throughout her four-year career she has put the team on her back. She finds a way to put the ball in the back of the cage and give the team life, so credit to her.
“I thought Quinn Burns, my defensive center mid, just did a really awesome job marking Sunny (Draper) but also getting on attack. She just played a really good game and was involved all over the field.
“My center back, Julz Scherzer, had a really nice game, and credit to our team defense that made a huge difference. If they got by one person, the next person was stepping up. They really worked together. They communicated. They were just on the same page as a whole team.
“I thought my senior goalkeeper, Bree Molony (who allowed only one goal), did a really nice job under pressure. Just her senior leadership, and she came up with some really good saves and in overtime did really well.”
Quakertown coach Peach Draper:
“We fought through a tough loss in overtime today against a skilled PW team after starting off a bit sluggish and missing plays we normally make. Our goalie, Darcy Baxter, played her heart out to keep us grounded, making multiple diving plays and racking up over 20 saves on the day.
“After heading into halftime tied 1-1, we made a few adjustments that worked really well, allowing us to connect our passes and get back to playing our style of game. That momentum paid off in a big way during the third quarter when we exploded for three goals, two coming within just 20 seconds of each other. Paige Longacre got the scoring started with a beautiful lift off a rebound, followed by Sunny Draper bringing a direct shot that found the back of the net and striking another tipped by Paige Longacre.
“The fourth quarter brought a setback when PW converted on a stroke awarded against us and scored on a corner. We headed into overtime with confidence, but after receiving a card and having to play down a player, they capitalized on the advantage to secure the win. Though it was a painful finish, we learned a lot, and we will make the necessary adjustments to come back even stronger. This team is special, and our best hockey is still ahead of us.”

UPPER DUBLIN 3, WISSAHICKON 2
The Flying Cardinals played for a cause, using Monday night’s game as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
“Tonight marked the return of a long-honored Upper Dublin field hockey tradition of a Play4TheCure, Corners4Cancer field hockey game and fundraiser,” UD coach Erica Kelly said. “Three UD field hockey seniors – Caitlin Diehl, Ellie Kuznits, and Mia Guagliardo – brought this event back for its 16th year, to honor their loved ones and raise awareness and funds for the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Their hard work amounted to a total fundraising effort of $4,500.
“As a program, we would like to acknowledge Wissahickon’s participation and support of this event. Tonight was an amazing success, and we are very grateful for the support of the community.”
The two teams entertained fans in a tightly contested battle that saw UD’s Abby Rucker score a pair of goals in a 20-second span late in the fourth quarter, erasing a 2-1 deficit and propelling the Cardinals to the 3-2 win.
Ellie Kuznits scored an early goal for UD while Carly Lehman had both of Wissahickon’s goals.

Wissahickon/Upper Dublin games are always high intensity, and tonight was no exception. Wissahickon showed up ready to play and performed with high intensity, answering out first goal quickly and taking the lead early in the fourth quarter.
“I am very proud of the grit the girls showed in recovering from that one-goal deficit. They never gave up and played their hearts out until the final whistle blew.”
–Props: “I would like to shout-out Ellie Kuznits and Jackie Beck for their tireless effort in the midfield. I would also like to give props to Liv Coffey, who stepped into a new role tonight, Ariana Fields, who saved a stroke in goal, and Abby Rucker who put up our two final goals.”
Wissahickon coach Hannah Havrilla:
–The game: “We started out strong and held UD scoreless in the first half. We were able to tie the game and take the lead, and I am proud of the girls for showing grit and perseverance. However, we were unable to score in the fourth quarter. We need to stay composed and continue to play with a sense of urgency. When we are up a goal, we need to play smart, stay disciplined, and protect our lead.
“We showed that we can compete and put ourselves in a position to win. Now we need to learn from this game and focus on finishing strong for a full 60 minutes.”
–Props: “Shoutout to Carly Lehman for adding two goals to the night! She is a threat anytime she has the ball and always finds a way to make something happen. I would also like to recognize our defense and goalkeepers, Siena Le, Sylvia Lampron, Addison Arnott, Allie Diemer and Rae Stiteler. Upper Moreland took the first step to finishing the season strong. We know that we are a very good team, and the players want to prove this in the second half of our league play. However, William Tennent made it tough for us today in the first half.
“Gianna Jones scored off a corner 2:15 into the game off a rebound on a hard shot from Olivia Torres. But, William Tennent played tough the rest of the first half, frustrating our offense when we got into the circle. WT’s goalie also had a great game making many strong saves.
In the second half, Jones scored two more goals to break the game open. Jones’ hat trick goal came off a great pass from sophomore Molly Gould in the circle. Gianna is one of our captains and she does most of the organizational work off the field to support our team and is probably one of our most improved players on the field. It’s been so satisfying seeing Gianna play her best her senior year!
Jones said, “Everyone was on fire today! We want to finish off the season STRONG! There were so many great passes in the game.
“On my third goal, Molly made a beautiful pass from the top of the circle right to me at the left post, and I swept it in. Everyone is putting their all into the end of the season! I’m so happy to see all the hard work we’ve put in pay off!”
“In the fourth quarter, we switched our lineup and our formation. We have not had a shutout since early in the season, so we wanted to do our best to not allow WT to score but also have the opportunity to score goals. The new formation paid off! Taylor Pagano went back to forward and was able to take a crossing ball and get her body low to sweep the ball in for a score. Pagano is an athletic, competitive player who has been working hard at multiple positions. She got our game ball last game for her hard work, coachability and willingness to improve.
Our leading scorer, Soph Riehle finished the game out by scoring two goals in the fourth quarter. When we have had difficulty scoring, somehow Soph finds a way to get that ball in the goal!! The first of her goals was off an assist from Olivia Torres. Liv and Soph work great together! Liv passed it ahead into the circle and Soph tipped it in the goal. The last goal of the game came from Jules Gablein with a low shot across the goal that Soph swept in for the score.
“Today also with the shutout, we have to have a shoutout to our defense! Our defense works tirelessly and doesn’t always get the credit they deserve. We put our defensive leader Bridget Hess back to sweeper to preserve the shutout and she denied WT to not allow any shots on goal. Our defense never let down and only allowed one corner and one shot on goal. Reese Purcell, Bridget Hess, Charlotte Russo, Lyla Soleau played awesome in the circle to shut down William Tennent. Hannah Gardner was asked to play multiple positions with a couple players out sick. Hannah is so coachable and can play anywhere. Kourtney Malone, Mia Hood and Olivia Torres played awesome at midfield working the ball up and down the field.”
