PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2
(Article submitted by Pennsbury field hockey)
OH WHAT A NIGHT!
The stage was set for the seniors at Falcon Field as Pennsbury prepared to face off against Council Rock South for the second time. It was senior night and also the last regular season game of 2025 – talk about seizing the moment!
The first time these two teams met at CRS a month ago, PHS came out on top 3-2 with the first quarter being goal heavy. Tonight, the final score was a carbon copy, giving PHS the 3-2 win again, but the fourth quarter saw most of the scoring action. In both matchups, the second quarter was scoreless.
After the seniors and their families traveled the memory-laden path across the field, beneath the balloon arch, and met with their impact person (someone invited who has had a significant impact on their life), the lineups were announced and the anthem played. The Golden Hawks were entering the game hovering in playoff range sitting right at number 24, while Pennsbury sat at 17 after a tough OT loss to Notre Dame on Saturday. This game could help the Hawks secure a playoff berth and for PHS, it was the possibility of getting a home playoff game if they could move up the rankings a bit.
The stadium vibe was electric! The Falcons came out on fire, setting the tone with high-speed passing and off ball movement, along with strong steps to the ball and overall great work ethic from end to end. South’s goalie was making saves from the start, forcing the orange and black to get creative right away.
Pennsbury struck first, lighting up the scoreboard with about six minutes left in the quarter putting the Falcons up 1-0. Joley Hohman set up the play on a smart long hit pass back to defender Cailyn Reilly. Reilly centered a beautiful ball to the top of the circle, hitting Abby Iacona perfectly. Iacona’s first touch was out to a waiting Ryan Burdette who shot it on goal, and the finishing touch was made by Regan Rodriguez with a deflection right past the keeper.
“It was a really great heads-up series on all of those touches,” said head coach Traci Curtis. “Hohman’s patience was key, and Cailyn’s precision was priceless. They all worked together to make that first goal happen.”
And that goal would stand alone though halftime and into the third quarter. Pennsbury had many opportunities to stretch the lead, firing shots on cage and building on breakaways, but they were stopped many times by a very strong and determined Hawk defense.
“They had really strong sticks and were stopping everything we put at them,” Curtis said. “The goalie was making consistent, saves and was protecting the cage with agility and confidence. We talked at halftime about the importance of keeping up the intensity and knowing that a one goal lead against a fierce team like South was not enough. We had to do more.”
Coach Curtis was right. With six minutes left in the third quarter, CRS earned a corner and capitalized on the moment. It was a tie game 1-1, and the temperature was rising. Little did both teams know that despite the thirty-seven minutes of high intensity battling, the fourth quarter would be the main event.
Two minutes into the final quarter, Pennsbury broke the tie with an incredible breakaway effort by Ryan Burdette, who dribbled through multiple players with sheer speed and saved the ball going over the endline with a one-time pass back to the stroke where Abby Iacona was ready to pounce, and Iacona did pounce with confidence and laser sharp focus.
“We literally practiced that type of attack on the ball at our workout the other day – just going to the ball hard in the circle and not waiting for the perfect shot,” Curtis said. “Ryan’s fight got us the opportunity and Iacona didn’t hesitate and finished in the most beautiful way.”
The Falcons went ahead 2-1, but there was much more of the story yet to unfold. At the four-minute mark, South earned three corners in a row, and the third time was a charm as they connected on a nice, slightly lifted straight shot threaded right past Abby McCole’s pads to tie it up. The clock was ticking, and the game was deadlocked 2-2. The Golden Hawks were killing it, considering they only had about six shots on goal and landed two of them. Pennsbury was quite the opposite with shots on goal in the twenties and only two to show for it.
“It was amazing to see the girls putting the ball on cage, but we have to close the gap on chances versus finishing,” said Curtis. “Here we were tied up and had dominated possession and shooting for over three quarters of the game. Our connections were precise, our IQ was off the charts, and our speed never wavered. As frustrating as that description sounds, it felt even worse.
“However, we were so proud that the players never looked back. They just kept moving forward and playing their game. They didn’t panic and they just did what they needed to do.”
The heat was on, and the fans were certainly on the edge of their seats, wondering where in the world this game could go next. Council Rock threatened with another penalty corner that was broken up by Ryan Burdette, and as the minutes turned to seconds, Cailyn Reilly sent a bouncy ball from the defensive circle that got through to Abby Iacona. Iacona used her speed, skills, and smarts to carry down half the field using a give and go with Regan Rodriguez to beat a final defender before Iacona dumped to stroke for Ryan Burdette to ice the cake for the Falcons’ 2025 regular season.
It was 3-2 with 53 seconds left on the clock. PHS played it smart, and as the final buzzer rang, they all exhaled at the same time. Three goals in twelve minutes in the fourth quarter reminds us all that it’s never over until it’s over.
“We are beyond proud of the way our team played tonight. We didn’t say anything different or do anything different, they just found what has been inside the whole time,” said Curtis. “Every single person contributed, did their job, and did it to the best of their ability for sixty minutes. It was a wonderful night celebrating our seniors and experiencing that together on our home turf. It certainly was an exclamation point on the regular season.
“South played an incredible game – their goalie was outstanding, their defense had really strong sticks, and they worked the ball very nicely from end to end. It was definitely a different team than when we played them a month ago and, that is what makes the season so exciting. Teams are never the same the second time around.”
Congratulations to our seniors Abby Anderer, Caelan Henderson, Abby Hicks, Abby McCole, and Danielle Morgan – your legacies are just taking root, and we will be sure to nurture them and continue to build upon what you are leaving with us. Pennsbury will wait to find out where they fall in the PIAA rankings and who they will face in the first round of playoffs. This will be the second year in a row they have earned a spot since Curtis & Co. took over seven years ago. The Pennsbury coaches and players would like to congratulate all seniors on their seasons and wish the best of luck to those teams moving on to play in the post season. It’s fun to grow the game alongside all of you.

The Bensalem Owls held the 15th ranked PIAA team to 0-0 at halftime. It was not until 11:39 left in the third quarter that Eve Garrison (Mia Brooks assist) was able to open up the scoring for Neshaminy. Brooks assisted on a goal by Lauren Staines with just 3:51 left in the game.
We played one of our best games of the year today against the Patriot Division champs. It was our seniors last game of their four-year career and they left it all out there. Senior forwards Ava Hood and Abby Kazimer put pressure on the Neshaminy defense all game. Keana Rodriguez and Peyton DeCarlo, both senior midfielders, helped to work the ball up from the outside. And Univest Featured Athlete of the Week Lucciana Krecko and Makayla Duncan, both seniors, held the back line all day against the very talented Skins offense. Chloe Masciantonio, injured in the senior night game, even joined her senior teammates so they could walk off the field together.
I can’t think of a single player that didn’t play well today. Sophomores Kylie Blank, Paige Dando, and Reese Sayers put constant pressure on the vaunted defense of Neshaminy. Juniors Mollie Reilly, who left the game early with a possible concussion, Anjali Guda, and Tierney Sayers continued their spectacular play from all season, fighting through a very tough Neshaminy team. Junior defenders Lexi Hartman and Reagan Colgan played well today and gave us a taste of what we’ll have on our back line next year. Freshman Leah Vorgity continued to show us why we brought her up as the only freshman this year. Her energy and fight are contagious, and I can’t wait to see what she will bring us over the next three years. Veronica Lennon and sophomore Abby Cheung played their hearts out today and will continue to move this program to heights that we haven’t been to in a long time. Goalkeeper Hailey Fricke did another amazing job stopping the powerful Neshaminy offense. She cleaned up a lot of loose balls in front of her cage today and cleared them out of danger.
Our season is done today, and we look back and try to decipher what we did right and what we can correct going into next season. I’m so proud of this team today and all season in the way they fought for what we were working for. We achieved a lot of what we were looking for and came up short a couple times when we felt we could have done more. That’s why I love sport, and that’s why I love this team. Can’t wait to see what the offseason and summer bring.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 8, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Rock North closed out the season with a win against Truman, and it couldn’t have been a better way to celebrate the seniors.
“It was more than just a game,” Rock North coach Jules Singer said. “It was about leadership, grit and heart this senior class has shown.
“They’ve built a culture of hard work and resilience, and you could see it in the way they played their final game. This group set the tone for what it means to be part of Council Rock North Field Hockey, and that’s going to carry on with the younger girls.
“I’m so proud of this team and especially proud of our seniors. They’ve poured everything into this program, and it was a good ending to their story here. Their legacy doesn’t end with this game, it’s something that will stay with us and keep pushing the program forward.”
The Indians, according to their coach, were firing on all cylinders.
“Kailyn Smith had an incredible game with four goals and an assist, putting us in control early,” Singer said. “Ella Moore added two goals, Mackenzie Pyle had a goal and an assist, and Maddie McDonald had a goal. Ashley Kim also came through with an assist.”

A goal by Gianna Bocchino put the Indians on top 3-1, but the Titans rallied with goals from Amy Hazell and Tessa Walls to knot the score midway through the third quarter.

“We were lucky to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Fortunately, we were able to better match their aggressive style the second half, but I never felt that our lead was safe. On a positive note, I was encouraged that we had four different players record a goal.”
Central Bucks South coach Kelli Chioffe:
–On the game: “It was a physical game against a strong team. There was a lot of back and forth play with our team dominating a great deal of the game. We struggled to get thru Souderton’s circle defense.
“Our girls fought hard never letting up and scored two goals in the third quarter to almost tie the score. They have players that can lift the ball 40 yards, and they have very good circle defense. CB South girls played their hearts out. Moving onward and upward to our next game tomorrow at Merion Mercy where we will continue to finish out our regular season games.”

“Throughout the season, we experimented with different lineups and feel confident we are ready for the postseason. Our passing game has become more dynamic and consistent, our defense more cohesive, and we’re seeing goal production from a range of players. We’re proud to finish undefeated in league play and to earn our third straight SOL Colonial League championship. We’ll take a moment to celebrate this achievement, but we know the regular season record no longer matters. Our focus now shifts entirely to Districts and the challenges ahead.”

UPPER MORELAND 2, LOWER MORELAND 1
(Article submitted by Upper Moreland field hockey)
For Upper Moreland, it seems like every “big game” we have players either injured or sick. Tonight, we came with a full squad for what could be our last regular season game. But in our warmups, captain Addi Gans got hit hard in the ankle, got taped up, started the game, but had to come out almost immediately. Addi loves this team so much that we tried to put her in a couple times since she was devastated to not be able to play her best tonight.
BUT the team knew, we had to win this game to have a chance at playoffs.
In the game, Lower Moreland’s Cara Torgan scored first. She is so fast – we did our best to contain her all night. She is a dynamic player.
We came back and scored with 13:11 left in the second quarter. We have been working on corners more in the last few practices, and it paid off tonight. Olivia Torres is so smart in the game, but especially in the circle. Liv, as our striker, knows how to read the defense and distribute the ball on corners. The first goal came when Ella Gould inserted to Liv at striker, and Olivia passed to Bridget Hess and she took a rocket shot to score. Bridget was able to take the free shot to goal because the other players on the corner were doing their job to occupy defenders.
Our passing and the “give-and-goes” really worked tonight with Ella Gould, Melissa Torpey, Taylor Pagano and MJ Reilly. Even though they were not given credit for the scoring, they maintained possession to get it down in the circle to get the corner!
The second goal was on another corner, in the third quarter. With Olivia Torres playing smart again, dodging the flyer, then hitting the boards for what turned out to be the winning score!
After that, our defense took over and held tight! Senior Abby Kelly was locked in on the right side, while Lyla Soleau and Reese Purcell covered the middle. In the fourth quarter, Harper Richmond, after playing multiple positions, came in off the bench and played awesome defense. Bridget Hess was all over the field! With the lead, we tried to play more defensively, and Bridget was a key in this strategy as she locked down at left midfield.
I wanted to give the game ball to the entire defense for the second half play, but Hannah Gardner earned it for her outstanding defensive play as Lower Moreland brought the ball down multiple times on their right side. We started marking Horgan, but Lo Mo had several players trying to feed her the ball, and Hannah kept them to the outside and contested every pass across.
In the fourth quarter, we had a player get a yellow card and played short for five minutes. That was intense!! Captain Tierney Hogan did not let down under the pressure having 12 saves in just the fourth quarter, and 33 saves overall. She also did a great job stepping to the ball and making hard clears out of her circle all the way to our forwards, so that was a game changer.
We knew we had to win this one to be considered for playoffs.
We got all six seniors back out on the field for the end of the game to walk off with the win!
Olivia Torres commented “We really played our best tonight. Our chemistry was insane when we were on the field. We came out with a positive attitude and ended up winning a very hard game. It really showed the younger players that you can do anything if you just put your mind into it.”
Not sure if this win will put us into playoffs, but we ended the regular season 9-8-1, and we are certainly proud of the record being a smaller school with a tough schedule.

Monday’s non-league game pitting Council Rock North at New Hope-Solebury was about a whole lot more than field hockey. It was the Lions’ annual Pink Out Game to promote breast cancer awareness, and this was personal.
Monday’s game honored Hall of Fame Council Rock Coach Pat Toner (Lions’ coach Gwen Smith’s high school coach at Council Rock) who is currently battling breast cancer. Stacy Morrin – an NHS parent of a former NHS field hockey alumni player – who is a breast cancer survivor – established a foundation called Revive to Thrive. The foundation’s mission is to provide compassionate support and empower those affected by breast cancer through educational resources, wellness events, and activities.
As for the game, the Lions broke a scoreless tie with a pair of second-quarter goals – the first by Danielle Wilson and the second by Abby Varaghese. Sophia Leonard and Olivia Conte each scored a goal in the second half as the Lions earned the non-league shutout win.

Souderton coach Sue Casciato: “Tonight was a tough game for both teams as the weather was certainly an issue. Fortunately, we got an early lead, and we were able to hold on the rest of the way. Our execution of penalty corners was disappointing, as that has been an area of strength for most of the season. We’re still not getting enough offensive opportunities once we get in the circle, but credit to our defense for being stingy on the other end.”
Pennridge coach Chris Chookagian:
–On the game: “This week is a long week for us with three games back-to-back. The team has been working on our full game since the last time we met Souderton at home. Defensively, we played much better this time around. Offensively, we’d like to have seen a few more opportunities but tomorrow is a new day. It was great to see the match more tightly contested.”
–Props: “Shoutout to our defense for shutting down the relentless Souderton attack. And special shoutout to goalkeeper Charlotte Gozzard who broke 200 career saves tonight, finishing the night with 204.”
