Upper Moreland 9, Plymouth Whitemarsh 8 (OT)
Emma Meakim scored in overtime to lift visiting Upper Moreland past Plymouth Whitemarsh in American Conference play Wednesday.
“It was definitely not our best game – it was messy to say the least,” Upper Moreland coach Kim Frantz said. “We struggled with the basics throughout a lot of the game, but we were able to compose ourselves at the end of the game when we needed it the most to bring home the win.
“PW did a great job of getting us off our game and how we normally like to play. They also were great at draw controls throughout the game especially the first half. PW had 12 draw controls throughout the game while we only came up with seven.
“As a team, we were very frustrated and just not clicking the way we have been in recent games, but we never gave up. Overall, I am really proud of this team and how they were mentally tough today when things weren’t working and how they never gave up but played with heart until the last minute.”
Moira Olexa led the Golden Bears with four goals, one assist and five draw controls while Meghan O’Donnell had three goals, two assists and one draw control. In addition to her game-winner, Meakim added another goal and three assists.
Bryanna Gordon had two assists in the win and Bella Guarenghi had one assist. Goalie Sarah Pickard made 11 saves.The first half we struggled to get many draw controls which really hurt us as the game went on, but towards the end of the game the girls adjusted and Moira Olexa made some changes and was able to start to come up with key draws when it really mattered including the first draw in overtime which got us down to the offensive end,” Frantz said. “We had our struggles on offense in overtime with an overthrow to a teammate and a missed shot both of which lost us possession of the ball, but we fought back and regained possession both times. The first one was a key ground ball by Maddy Zachwieja and the second possession was with Bryanna Gordon and Alexis Lamb having key defense to cause a turnover in the midfield.
“The winning goal was scored by Emma Meakim when there was a 2v1 situation and Emma was able to fake a pass and score the goal for a win.”
The Golden Bears’ coach acknowledged the strong play of her defense in the win.
“On defense, AbbyEllen Wood was key to our success with her communication and ability to read the offense and think one step ahead of the PW players,” Frantz said. “Kayla Meakim also a key part of our defense and she was able to come up with an interception when there was less than a minute left in regulation and PW was trying to score.
“Sarah Pickard had another great day in goal with 11 saves.”
Lexi Petrakis (one assist) paced the Colonials with four goals while Calli Kolkka, Lucy Sullivan, Max Lesczyznski (one assist) and Fiona Goonerante each had one goal. Goalie Aniya Bonds made six saves.
Upper Moreland (6-2, 3-0 SOL) will host Ridley in a non-league game Thursday, and Plymouth Whitemarsh (2-7, 0-3) is off until next Wednesday when the Colonials will travel to Souderton

Pennridge 14, Quakertown 1
Pennridge handed visiting Quakertown a non-league defeat on Wednesday.
The Rams used a varied offensive attack as Jenna Lund had five goals, Jill Csaszar had two goals while Avery Meiners, Morgan Wahlers, Alex Lippman, Peyton RImmer, Aubery Maher and Hannah Cressman had one each.
Csaszar added two assists and Wahlers, Rimmer and Cressman had one each as did Caitlyn Amsden.
Kayla Hillaert had the lone goal for the Panthers.
Pennridge (3-7, 1-2 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East on Thursday, and Quakertown (2-7, 1-2) will host Northampton in a non-league game Thursday.
Upper Dublin 15, Haverford High 5
Upper Dublin built a comfortable lead by halftime and then poured on the offense in the second half en route to a non-league victory over Haverford High on Wednesday.
The Cardinals, who led 8-4 at halftime, outscored the Fords 7-1 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Mack Moore and Julia Reardon led Upper Dublin with four goals each while Becky Browndorf (four assists) and Jackie Rama had hat tricks. Lydia Casey also had a goal in the win and Riley Brady made a dozen saves.
Upper Dublin (7-4, 3-1 SOL) is off until Wednesday when the Flying Cardinals will travel to Wissahickon for a key conference battle at 5 p.m.

Souderton 12, Penncrest 11
A strong team effort turned out to be the difference for host Souderton in a non-league win over Penncrest on Wednesday.
“It was a challenging game,” Souderton coach Nancy Offner said. “Penncrest is a very strong team and really pushed our team to stay focused and composed. The girls played with heart the entire time really working hard defensively throughout the whole field.
“Randi Hess played a strong game today all over the field. Lauren Scott had a great game in goal with key saves for us in the last few minutes. I am very proud of how the girls played tonight and how they are growing as a team.”
The Indians took a four-goal lead in the first half only to see the visitors regain the advantage before Souderton answered back to lead 7-5 at the half.
“The second half was back and forth but we were able to maintain control,” Offner said.
Hess (two assists) and Riley McGowan each had four goals while Caroline Kelly added a pair of tallies. Clark Trowbridge and Kylie Norbeck each had one goal.
Scott recorded 14 saves in goal in a strong outing.
Souderton (6-5, 2-2 SOL) will be on the road at Quakertown on Monday.
Penncrest 5 6 – 11

Central Bucks South 7, Ridley 6
Central Bucks South used a team effort to hand host Ridley a non-league loss Wednesday.
“CB South won a hard-fought battle against Ridley from the Central League,” Central Bucks South coach Janique Craig said. “Senior captains Anna Green and Francine Richick both had three goals and one assist while Bridget Curtis came up with a key eight-meter goal, an assist and was also dominant force on the circle with four draw controls.”
Freshmen Kate Victor and Tegan Mullan both contributed an assist and the Titans defense was led by senior Erin Mayeros who had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
“Goalkeeper Katelyn Wendling had an outstanding game with 10 saves and continues to come up big for us in the cage,” Craig said.
Central Bucks South (6-3, 1-1 SOL) will be on the road at North Penn on Tuesday.
Easton 14, North Penn 13
North Penn fell behind early before rallying to make things very interesting in Wednesday’s non-league game against visiting Easton.
“We were down 6-1 six minutes into the game,” North Penn coach Heather Mellow said. “We have never played Easton, and I think the strength of their offensive unit took us some time to adjust to – the pace of their play is very fast. They made some quick passes and shots inside the eight meter.”
The Maidens, after the slow start, battled back and trailed the Rovers just 10-9 at halftime.
Lily Szilagyi led the North Penn offense with six goals and Grace Sacchetti (eight draw controls) and Emily Varilla (six draw controls, one assist) each added hat tricks. Alli Lindsay had a goal and an assist in the loss while Alaina Mullaly caused three turnovers.
“Once we settled down and started winning draws, we chipped away at their lead to make it a close game by the half,” Mellow said.“We held their offense to just four goals in the second half, which was awesome. Unfortunately, we came up short at the very end. But proud of this team for not giving up.”
North Penn (5-5, 3-0 SOL) will host Central Bucks South on Tuesday.
