American Conference
Plymouth Whitemarsh 9, Abington 8
Plymouth Whitemarsh withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt, and in the end, the Colonials stood tall in a matchup of two of the top teams in the American Conference.
The Colonials took a 9-3 lead into the final period of Monday’s league showdown, and despite being outscored 5-0 down the stretch, PW pulled out the 9-8 victory over the Ghosts.
“We played a solid 3 quarters,” said PW coach Ellen Reilly. “We worked hard on defense and came up with some great stops. Katie Lukens, Kaylin Smyth and Keira Whelan led the way. They each had blocks and interceptions on Abington.
“The fourth quarter we learned a lot, we had to work through adversity. We played panicked instead of confident, and created our own turnovers that led to Abington scoring. In the end, we came through, and hopefully, they can take away the great three quarters they played and learn from the mistakes we made in the fourth.”
Maite Jayo led the Colonials with 5 goals on the day. Bri Reynolds had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Meghan Wendler added 2 goals.
“Maite Jayo took what Abington gave her with the 1v1, and she beat her defender to the goal,” Reilly said. “Bri Reynolds came up big all over the field – on the draw and in transition both in the defensive end of the field and on attack. Meghan Wendler can always score, and she did that today.”
Harper McGinley led Abington with 3 goals, 2 assists, 4 caused turnovers, 8 ground balls, and 5 draw controls. Piper McGinley scored 3 and added 1 assist.
Nora Luskin had 1 goal, 1 caused turnover, and 1 ground ball. Addison Doyle had 1 goal and 1 ground ball, Charlotte Lowery chipped in with 1 goal and 1 caused turnover, and Ein Ely and Maddie Garry added 1 goal each. Katie Pennekamp registered 1 caused turnover, 8 ground balls, and 9 draw controls.
The Colonials improve to 4-2 in American Conference play, 8-2 overall, and will visit Wissahickon for a 6:15 pm Wednesday game. The Ghosts (4-2, 6-4) host New Hope-Solebury at 3:45 pm Wednesday.

Springfield Twp 12, Upper Moreland 8
Springfield Twp jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one quarter battled to a 12-8 victory over Upper Moreland in a tough American Conference game on Monday.
“The game was hard-fought by both teams,” said Spartans’ coach Marissa Conover, whose team remains unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 (7-3 overall). “A lot of times the game felt like ping pong. There were turnovers for both teams throughout, which made it more exciting.
“I’m really proud of our attack and their hard work today, and the pressure they added. Our middies – Emma Yoder, Maddie McDevitt, and Shannon Silvius – coming up with 50/50 balls made a big impact on the game.”
Fiona Rizzo led the Spartans with 5 goals and 2 assists. Emma Yoder netted 4 goals, Sam McDevitt had 2 goals and 1 assist, Frankie Rizzo scored once and assisted on 2 others, and Maddie McDevitt dished out 2 assists.

“Today was a tough day for us, we just weren’t coming together like we have been the last couple weeks,” said Upper Moreland coach Kim Frantz. “We were missing a key defender due to injury, so it took us a few minutes in the beginning of the game to work some things out. We were down in the first quarter 5-2 and just really weren’t able to come back from the initial deficit. Springfield did a great job dominating the draws and slowing us down in transition.”
The Spartans will visit Upper Dublin at 3:30 pm Wednesday in a showdown of the two teams that remain unbeaten in American Conference play. The Golden Bears (4-1, 9-2) will host Quakertown at 6:30 pm Wednesday.
