Wissahickon 1, Central Bucks West 0
It was not the type of match the Trojans are used to playing this season.
Chances, at least those created in the flow of play, were limited and both sides did a lot of work defending set pieces. It was a good test for a young Trojans side, especially against a Bucks team that’s always physically tough and aggressive taking and defending on set plays.
“They had a few girls who were really good in the air, and despite being smaller, we always managed to do just enough to
put them off from scoring,” Wiss coach Chris McDaniels said.
Fittingly for the type of match it was, a set piece decided it and even then it wasn’t on first effort. In a scrappy game, it was a scrappy play by Bailey Cohen following up an initial effort to hand the Trojans a hard-fought win.

2nd Half
W – Bailey Cohen (Kaitlyn Thomson)
Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels said: “There wasn’t a ton created in the run of play, they had a bunch of free kicks and corner kicks and we were in the same boat. We finally, midway through the second half, converted on a corner. They were bigger and stronger, and we were doing our best to fight and battle throughout the game.”
Trojans goal: “Kaitlyn Thomson got up and won a header that she directed on goal. The keeper made a save but there was a little scramble in front, and Bailey Cohen got on the end of it and put it in the back of the net.”
Shared clean sheet: “Sidney Jackson started and Meredith Blight
finished it out, so we had a ninth grader start and a 12th grader finish in the second half, and it was nice to see them combine on the clean sheet.”
Center backs stand tough: “Katie Hepler and Julia Lentz are my two center backs who have held down the fort all year. They’ve done a really nice job despite the fact we’ve given up some goals, week to week they’re consistently good and they did a really nice job in front of our keepers today, limiting them to shots from distance and not giving up anything tight.”
Up next: Central Bucks West will host Souderton Tuesday (7pm), and Wissahickon will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh Tuesday (7pm).

Pennridge 2, Quakertown 1 (OT)
There’s this thing that Rams defenders Avery Runk and Natalie Walter do that their team loves but has to drive opponents crazy.
When the Rams get a corner kick and Runk jogs out to take the service, Walter will similarly take up residence somewhere inside the 18 yard box and wait for the ball. Often, Runk – a senior and a Florida Atlantic recruit – will look where Walter – a junior – is and try to hit the ball in that direction knowing if Walter can get to it, there’s a good chance it’s going in the back of the net.
Late in the first overtime Friday night against rival Quakertown, the right back and the left back did their thing again as Walter scored the match-winning goal off a Runk corner to run Pennridge’s win streak to 10 straight.
The visiting Panthers jumped out early but the Rams battled back, using a goal from senior Erin Corbett off an Emily Hensler assist to draw level at the break.

P – Natalie Walter (Avery Runk) 2:23
Pennridge coach Lucas Kriner on the win: “The team showed a lot of fight tonight after a mediocre opening 15 minutes. Credit to them for never giving up. The ability to bounce back from mistakes and smooth out bumps is a good sign for us. Fighting back from a deficit makes for a harder night’s work. We addressed that some parts of the performance were subpar, but the girls still got the job done.”
Keeper comes up big: “Credit to Cece Demoss for brilliant saves during some tricky action in the box. Quakertown really put the pressure on us at times, especially on free kicks. The backline helped with some crucial blocks, too.”
Clutch scorers: “Props to Erin Corbett and Nat Walter for two really important goals: one to help us go into halftime level, and the other for the walk-off win. Erin was fed by a really great ball by Emily Hensler, who I thought had a great game tonight, especially staying aggressive and going forward.”
Impact of equalizer: “If we don’t go into halftime tied, we go into the team talk stressed and the conversations and the solutions are trickier. If those final four minutes go off the clock with no goal, we’re then talking at halftime about how we get two goals in the remaining 40. Those details matter in a team, so it was nice to go into the team room and praise the good momentum. Since we sat at 1-1, the coaching staff just treated it like a 0-0 restart and we had 40 minutes to grind for a go-ahead goal and more. No need to panic. Stay patient. Keep knocking.”
Fullbacks walk it off: “Nat again showed her courage and commitment to be first to the ball on corners by going forward and getting the final goal. Reliable and consistent performers like Nat and Avery are the ones you like to see step up in OT.”
Up next: Pennridge will host Central Bucks East Tuesday (7pm), and Quakertown will host Hatboro-Horsham Tuesday (7 pm)
PENNRIDGE 1 0 1 – 2
QUAKERTOWN 1 0 0 – 1
Plymouth Whitemarsh 5, Bensalem 0
While it wasn’t an overly busy week across the SOL at large, the Colonials certainly had a lot going on this week.
After starting the second half of SOL Liberty play with a win against Quakertown on Tuesday then hanging tough in a loss against CB South on Wednesday, PW had one more fixture on its slate with a trip to Bensalem on Friday.
It was a long week but the Colonials finished it in good fashion with a wire-to-wire win predicated by some unselfish soccer.
Four of PW’s five goals were assisted with Lori Flannery putting away two while Maddi Lazaroff continued to be a tremendous facilitator with two more assists.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
PW – Maddie McGuckien (PK)
PW – Lori Flannery (Maddie McLaughlin)
PW – Lori Flannery (JJ Lafferty)
2nd Half
PW – Maddie McGuckien (Maddi Lazaroff)
PW – Molly McEvoy (Maddi Lazaroff)
PW coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “Professional job today from our squad. We had a tough loss Wednesday, but I think everyone felt positive about the performance. With no practice (Thursday) after back-to-back grueling games on Tuesday and Wednesday plus the holiday, I wasn’t sure how we would come out today. Add in a long bus ride, playing on grass for the first time this year, and more but we showed maturity and did a job today.”
First half offense: “Maddie McGuckien started off the scoring early in the first half with a PK after a handball in the box. Lori Flannery followed with two goals, one assist coming from our right back Maddie McLaughlin and one assist from our left back, JJ Lafferty. I spoke to the defense before the game that with the size of the field, we felt that our defenders could get service into our forwards in behind the Bensalem defense.”
Colonials add on: “Maddie McGuckien opened up the scoring 5 minutes into the second half, with her second goal of the game and ninth on the season off of a Maddi Lazaroff corner. Freshmen Molly McEvoy scored three minutes later, again off of a Maddi Lazaroff corner.“
Numbers adding up: “Those two assists from junior Maddi Lazaroff give her an incredible 10 on the season. Our freshmen, McEvoy and Flannery, each have five goals on the year and continue to perform game in and game out.”
Props: “Seniors Maddie McGuckien and Kaiane Jayo played the full 80 in defense to keep the clean sheet. Goalkeeper Olivia Bragg did a great job coming off her line today to sweep up anything and everything.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh will host Wissahickon Tuesday (7pm), and Bensalem will be on the road at Pennsbury (4:30pm).
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3 2 – 5

Abington 4, Cheltenham 0
The Ghosts won consecutive fixtures for the first time this season, taking on backyard rival Cheltenham and putting away a few quality finishes despite a valiant effort from Panthers keeper Caroline Graham.
Scoring Summary
A – Kiera Clemson
A – Giana Jones
A – Giana Jones
A – Emma Felix
Abington coach Rick Tompkins on the win: “It’s the first time we’ve put two together this season. I told them you’ve got something going, now you’ve got to do something with it.”
Jones nets a brace: “She scored a gorgeous goal, Addie Doyle was deep in the corner and knocked the ball across, I didn’t think it was going to stay on the field but Giana went up and headed it. It was really well-timed. Giana was hurt early in the season but she’s come back and has done well for us.”
Props: “Emma Felix had a really nice goal too. It was off a corner kick, she got the rebound and blasted it home, it was a very nice shot.”
Up next: Abington will travel to Upper Dublin Tuesday, and Cheltenham will travel to William Tennent on Tuesday (7pm).
ABINGTON – 4

Council Rock North 4, Lower Moreland 2
A team doesn’t get to where Council Rock North is at this point of the season by relying on just one or two players.
The Indians, who improved to 13-0-0 on the season, did not get to that point easily and went into halftime against the Lions trailing by a goal. However, CR North has emphasized getting plenty of its players onto the pitch all season and it’s helped build up a team that’s got a good mix of talent and depth.
Friday, it was Isabel Diaz who took the leading role for CR North as the junior scored all four goals for her team. She needed to have that kind of performance thanks to Lower Moreland’s Emma Leibert, who netted both of the Lions goals to put CRN on its heels at the break.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRN – Isabel Diaz (Audrey Rogan)
LM – Emma Leibert
LM – Emma Leibert
2nd Half
CRN – Isabel Diaz (Audrey Rogan)
CRN – Isabel Diaz (Sarina Igval)
CRN – Isabel Diaz
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the match: “Another tough SOL crossover today. Really pleased to come out with a win after being down at halftime, maybe we didn’t have our best for 80 minutes but I also think that LM did a really good job of denying us spaces and counter attacking well.”
First half: “I thought we were a little slow to start but we did have a lot of the possession, eventually a shot from Audrey Rogan created a rebound that Isabel Diaz scored. Almost immediately from the kick-off LM responded with a goal and even though I felt we had more of the ball LM scored again right before halftime.
“From a coaching standpoint it was interesting to see how we would respond to that. We tried to stress to the girls to continue to play the way we want, but also to take the spaces and opportunities that we were given by LM.”
Diaz takes over: “It’s hard to really look beyond Isabel Diaz as our best performance. Anytime you score four goals in a high school game you probably deserve that accolade, but she also impressed with her work rate off the ball. About 10 minutes into the second half, some good possession ended with a great through ball from Audrey Rogan to Isabel Diaz who scored, within a few minutes Diaz was able to get on the end of a cross from Sarina Igval to give us the lead. Late in the game a corner kick found Isabel again to get her fourth goal of the game.”
Well-earned win: “We were really pleased with our response in the second half, we were focused, and stuck to a plan while also really emphasizing the work rate and pressure needed to turn the game around. I think we learned a lot about our group today, and happily they came through in those moments.”
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the match: “We lost to a really good CR North team today. Our girls played well and made them work. We took a 2-1 lead into halftime. But a team like CRN wears you down with their deep bench and relentless attack which proved to be too much for us in the end.”
Leibert stands out: “Emma Leibert had a really strong outing today. When she starts to attack, she is really tough to stop. After Council Rock scored their first goal 10 minutes into the game, less than two minutes later Emma took the ball down the wing, beat the defender and slid the ball past the keeper to score her first goal. She did the same thing again with 22 seconds left in the half and giving us a lead at halftime.”
Props: “I also thought that freshman defender Ella Rossiter played really well today too. She had her hands full with a lot of speed on North’s attack, and Ella really did a good job at containing that speed.”
Up next: Council Rock North will be on the road at Neshaminy Tuesday (7pm), and Lower Moreland will travel to Springfield Twp Tuesday.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 3 – 4
LOWER MORELAND 2 0 – 2
Hatboro-Horsham 1, Harriton 0
Sometimes opportunity just knocks and others, it kicks the door down and storms in.
For Hatters senior Ryleigh White, it was very much the latter Friday afternoon. The forward, who has committed to Stockton, was hovering along Harriton’s back line when a back pass took a deflection off the center back and into free space.
White pounced immediately, racing to the ball and ripping a screamer off her right foot that tucked neatly under the bar for the winner.

Souderton 3, Upper Dublin 2 (OT)
17 seconds.
That’s all it took in the first overtime period for Cailee Cush to fire home the game-winner that gave the Indians the hard-fought win over the visiting Cardinals in a crossover game Wednesday.
Earlier, the two teams exchanged goals in the first and second half with Souderton’s Lilly Heron scoring midway through the first half and then Kylie Cummings finding the net in the 64th minute of the second half.
The Indians – who have already surpassed last year’s win total.- are 15th in the latest District 1 4A power rankings.
Scoring Summary
S – Lilly Heron (19′)
S – Kylie Cummings (64′ – assisted by Sienna Stunkard)
S -Cailee Cush (17s in OT #1 – assisted by Lilly Heron)
By the numbers: Saves: Kahlan Hurley (S) 8.
Souderton coach Melissa Lollar:
The game: “Playing back-to-back games, especially after facing a tough Pennridge team, Souderton fought for a solid team win on Wednesday. Souderton got on the board first early in the first half when – in the 12thminute – they found Lilly Heron, who finished it in the low corner. Upper Dublin shortly after responded off a corner kick was deflected and placed in the back of the net to tie it up 1-1.
“In the second half, Souderton found themselves down 2-1 when Upper Dublin struck a rising missile on goal. Souderton’s keeper, Kahlan Hurley, was attempting to push the ball over the net, but it just struck the outstretched fingertips and found its way into the side netting. But never count Souderton out.
“In the 64th minute, Souderton earned a corner kick sent perfect into the box by Sienna Stunkard, where Kylie Cummings, Souderton’s dominant center back, rose above all and finished a header into the back of the net, tying the game 2-2.
“Overtime was in the cards, and Souderton immediately took advantage. Only 17 seconds into the first OT, and right off the tap, Souderton’s Julia Purvy quickly found a streaking Cailee Cush who two took touches and fired the game winner home to give the Indians a 3-2 overtime win against a solid Upper Dublin team.”
Standouts: “Strong effort across the board from the Souderton defense, and in particular, keeper Kahlan Hurley played big, making multiple saves including a breakaway that could’ve turned the tides to Upper Dublin. With this win, Souderton has already surpassed last season’s record.”
Up next: Souderton will travel to Central Bucks West on Tuesday (7pm), and Upper Dublin will host Abington on Tuesday.
