Council Rock North 2, West Chester Henderson 1 (OT)
Mia Cairone scored a milestone goal in overtime, propelling the Indians to the impressive non-league road win in Friday’s season opener. Audrey Rogan was credited with the assist.
For Cairone, it was her 50th goal in less than 60 games.
Henderson took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Rogan turned a pass from Sydney Linus into the equalizer.
Scoring Summary
First half:
WCH
Second half
CRN – Audrey Rogan (Sydney Linus)
Overtime
CRN – Mia Cairone (Rogan)
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “A gutsy win tonight against a tough opponent. It was a game of two halves really, WC was much better than us in the first half, but after the break, I thought we were much improved and were the better side. They started aggressively and played some really good soccer. Their ball movement at times was excellent, and we struggled with their movement. They scored midway through the first half, and they fully deserved to be leading at halftime.
“Wininng the opening game of the season is always pleasing, but I think we were happy tonight in the adjustments the girls made and the grit and determination they showed in the second half of the game to get us there.”
–Halftime adjustments: “During the break, we talked a lot about our communication and how we needed to be more aggressive in the second half. The girls took that on board, and we were a different team. We pressed higher, won more 50/50s and we were much more dangerous going forward.”
–Offensive spark: “Sydney Linus served a great corner kick, and Audrey Rogan was able to head home to tie the game in the second half. We had a couple more opportunities from set pieces, but we couldn’t quite finish them.”
–Cairone milestone: “I felt like we had the momentum going into OT, and with two minutes left in the first OT, Rogan was able to find Mia Cairone, who quickly turned, beat two defenders and slotted home the winner. This was Mia’s 50th goal for CRN in less than 60 games, a great achievement for our program. We’re hoping she gets a lot more too!”
–Depth on display: “We played 18 girls tonight, we have some injuries to manage, so utilizing all those players is a plus for us, and the contribution we got from all 18 was excellent. A few girls stood out in their performance this evening: Isabel Diaz was excellent on the outside for us. She covers so much ground and is a real threat as an attacker. Amber Yuan was asked to play a completely different role in midfield in the second half, and she played great and looked like she’d been playing there forever. Alexa Pikul had to sub on quickly after a yellow card and did a really solid job in the back instantly.”
Up next: The Indians (1-0) will face West Chester Rustin in a 5pm start on Saturday at WC Henderson.

After watching the Owls jumped out to 2-1 lead, the Panthers evened the score by halftime and then closed out the game with three unanswered goals in the second half. Sami Robi led the Panthers with a pair of goals in a contest the saw four different Panthers goals..
By the numbers:

B – 1-1
B – 1-2
WT – Sami Robi 35:00 2-2
Second half
WT – Robi 54:00 3-2
WT – Bailey Kasner (Alena Beer) 60:30 4-2
WT – Erin Tuman junior assisted by Grace Bochnak 67:40 5-2
William Tennent coach Elise Jara on the win: “Sami Robi played a strong game on defense and scored her first of two goals off a direct kick from the 30, tying the score at 2-2 late in the first half. She had her second to start the scoring in the second half. We really needed our players to step up as we were playing down a player for the entire second half. They certainly did that and not only did not allow Bensalem to score again but scored three more goals of our own.
–Plenty of Contributors: “The whole team contributed, and every player that stepped onto the field played a role in this win. Sofia Jakimoski played well in several positions including midfield and striker. Paige Marek held down the midfield and kept Bensalem from playing the ball through the middle of the field. Grace Bochnak used her speed at striker to put pressure on their back line. Lia Jablonoski had to move from her usual striker position to help fortify the back line once we had to play down.”
Up next: William Tennnent (1-0) will visit Wissahickon at 3:30 on Monday. Bensalem (0-1) hosts Neshaminy at 3:30 on Wednesday.

CB West coach Bree Benedict on the win: “Great start to the season. Although it was difficult to generate a rhythm, the girls were physical and strong in 1v1 situations.”
Offensive standouts: “Reegan Moran had a great game and set the tone, she just runs through challenges and 50/50s and sells out for the team. She picked up our first goal with less than a minute in the first half. Second half opened up with a great effort from Cam Nocito who found the far post upper 90 to make it two goals.”
Midfield standouts: “We got contributions from all players. Eva Wierzbowski, Mackenzie Gausch, Janelle Blokker, and Addie Herman all had strong games in the midfield.”
Up next: The Bucks (1-0) host Abington at 7pm on Tuesday.

A Redskin squad with high expectations opened the season with a no-doubt-about-it shutout win on Friday. Alexis Barnes was perfect in goal, turning in the clean sheet.
Kylie Maxwell scored a pair of goals to lead a balanced attack that saw seven different players contribute to the scoring.
Cassidy Tweedie turned a pass from Keira Siwinski into a goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in the opening half to give the ‘Skins a lead they would not lose, and seven minutes later, Maxwell scored her first of two goals to send Neshaminy into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Maxwell’s second goal (Ava Hood assist) with just under 30 minutes remaining gave the Redskins a three-goal edge, and Aislyn Fitzgerald closed out the scoring, using an Emma Murphy assist.
Scoring Summary
First half
N – Cassidy Tweedie (Keira Siwinski) 10:30 1st half 1-0
N – Kylie Maxwell (Abby Collins) 3:44 1st half 2-0
Second half
N – Kylie Maxwell (Ava Hood) 28:03 2nd half 3-0
N – Aislyn Fitzgerald (Emma Murphy) 8:55 2nd half 4-0
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed on the win: “The goal today was to maintain possession, which I think we did a good job of. Everyone is still getting used to their positions and responsibilities, so it helped controlling the flow of the game a little, but Ryan plays a strong physical game and did have some good chances. For the first game of the season, it was a good win. Still things to work on but also happy with the result.”
–Standout keeper: “Our keeper Alexis Barnes stepped up big on a 1v1 and put in some extra work to earn the clean sheet today.”
–Offensive catalysts: “Offensively, we did a good job of creating lots of opportunities that just missed the net. Along with earning a lot of corners, we were able to keep pressure on their defense. Kylie Maxwell did a great job of connecting and finding space to play the ball, finishing two of those chances. Kiera Siwinski was constantly working in the midfield to break in plays and distribute the ball. She is incredibly strong and determined to win every 50/50 ball.”
–Scoring summary: Goal 1: “From a Corner taken by Anna Axenroth and headed to the back post by Keira Siwinski, volleyed in by Cassidy Tweedie. “
Goal 2: “Abby Collins collects the ball in midfield and puts a through ball to Kylie Maxwell down the right side. Keeper got a piece, but the ball was hit too hard to keep out for Kylie’s first goal of the night.”
Goal 3: “Ava Hood played a nice ball in behind the defense where Kylie Maxwell was running alone and made a quick move and touch around the keeper for her second goal.”
Goal 4: “Emma Murphy cross collected by Aislyn Fitzgerald created some space for herself and hit a real nice ball.”

The Colonials lost some key pieces from last year’s successful squad, but that did not slow them down in Friday’s non-league opener. Four different players scored goals for the Colonials in the shutout win, and junior Olivia Bragg earned the clean sheet in her first varsity start.
Maddie McGuckien converted a penalty kick to spot the Colonials a 1-0 lead, and Marleigh Burton’s unassisted goal sent PW into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Keira Whelan (Maddi Lazaroff assist) and Liv Patete (Mia Baron assist) both added a goal for the 4-0 final
Scoring Summary
First half
PW – Maddie McGuckien (PK)
PW – Marleigh Burton
Second half
PW – Keira Whelan (Maddi Lazaroff assist)
PW – Liv Patete (Mia Baron assist)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “I’m very happy for the kids to start the season 1-0 after two hard weeks of work. To have four different goal scorers was great to see and, honestly, what the coaches expect this season. Today was a great start, but we recognize that we have a lot more work to do before league play begins.”
–New look in goal: “It is no secret that we lost one of the best keepers in the district over the past three years in Caitlyn Dinh. Junior Olivia Bragg got her first varsity start in net ,and I’m sure a clean sheet in Game No. 1 is a huge confidence boost.”
–Defense shines: “Today, we sent out a backline of senior Katie Lukens, junior Maddie McLaughlin, sophomore Soph Nagle, and freshman Harper Reilly. For their first time playing together, they were terrific. Junior Liv Budin played strong defensively in midfield.”
Up next: The Colonials (1-0) will host Cheltenham at 3:30 on Wednesday.

Upper Dublin 2, Archbishop Carroll 1 (2 OT)
Anna DiMartile turned a pass from Rosie Sitman into a goal that propelled the Cardinals to the dramatic overtime win.
Carroll took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Erin Seabrook (Abby O’Meara) scored to send the two teams into halftime deadlocked. Nothing changed in the second half, and it took two overtimes to determine a winner.
Scoring Summary
AC – Sophia Verlingherie
UD – Erin Seabrook (Abby O’Meara)
UD – Anna DiMartile (Rosie Sitman)
Upper Dublin coach John Topper on the win: “I think we had the better of the opportunities early on. Carroll got a goal on a broken play off a corner midway through the first half. The game evened out a little bit, and shortly before half, Erin Seabrook scored on a left-footed shot from the top of the box that deflected and went in. The second half was a pretty open game – both teams had chances.”
–2-OT Winner: “Anna was dangerous all day. We played her into a 1-v-1 situation down the right side, Anna took a good touch in behind her defender and buried it with some power. She did well with her finish.”
–Midfield anchors: “We have a lot of players either in their first time on varsity or in new positions. We had Erin Seabrook and Abby O’Meara in the center midfield, and they did a great job controlling the flow of play and calming us down when we needed to and getting us moving forward when we needed to. We built around them.
–Attacking threats: “Anna DiMartile and her sister Bridget got into dangerous positions a number of times. Peyton Ward cracked a beautiful shot from about 20 yards out that struck the crossbar.”
–Defensive debut: “We had two first time varsity players, one of them was our freshman center back Brooke Ellner who was just phenomenal for us ,and she got us out of hot water a couple of times.”
Up next: Upper Dublin (1-0) will visit Strath Haven at 3:45 on Monday.

UM Keiley Hawk (Madeline Cox) 14:37
UM 30:07 Lizzie Walker
Second half
UM 53:14 Maggie Brophy
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto on the win: “Today’s win was a great team effort. It is always a bit tricky at the start of the season, new players figuring it out, new positions, new teammates, and new systems. It took us a little bit to settle in, but once we were able to find our rhythm, the girls were able to find each other, possess the ball, and move it through our system well to create offensive opportunities.”
–Scoring variety: “Four different goal scorers is a great way to start the season. Brogan Neeley was able to settle a six off Truman and find the back of the net. She showed good composure in front of the goal. Three minutes later, Keiley Hawk broke free on the left flank, Madeline Cox found her, Hawk cut the ball back and was able to place it in the side netting. Our third goal was scored by one of our captains, Lizzie Walker. She was able to perfectly place a corner kick right into the back of the net. At the 53-minute mark, we were awarded a direct kick from about 25 yards out. Maggie Brophy struck the ball well, putting it in.”
–Multiple contributors: “There was some great play through our back line into the midfield, and we were able to extinguish Truman’s advances. Annalise Messina, Deanna Swedberg, Kiera Hess and Gracie Costello worked very well as a cohesive defensive unit. Solid minutes were played by Madeline Cox, Keiley Hawk, and Erin Distill.”
Keeper stats: UM Gracie Costello 2 saves; NST Dani Gilher 6 saves, Aubrey Thompson 3 saves

The Lions exchanged goals with the defending PIAA 1A state champions in the first half and went into halftime deadlocked 1-1. The visiting Pioneers controlled play in the second half, scoring three goals to just one for the Lions.
Shannon Mahon connected for a brace to lead the Lions. Jordyn Fox assisted on her first-half goal, and Gabby Fogerty had the helper on her second.
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the game: “Tough loss to Dock today. We played a strong first half, with the score tied 1-1 at halftime. Throughout the first half, we put a lot of pressure on the Dock defense. Ruby Levin’s effort and aggressive play was a big part of the attack throughout the half.
“Our first half goal came from a nice assist by wing defender Jordyn Fox who joined the attack and sent the ball through the middle to attacker Shannon Mahon. Shannon had a nice hustle play and put the ball in the back of the net.
