Neshaminy & CR North notched wins in SOL girls’ soccer action Wednesday.

SOL Patriot Division
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
It’s always a war when the neighboring schools meet, and Wednesday’s game was no exception.
The Indians – one day removed from a heartbreaking overtime loss to Neshaminy – bounced back with a hard-fought win.
The Indians got on the scoreboard early when Sara Tyler connected with Mia Cairone, who finished for a goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
Scoring Summary
1st half
Mia Cairone (CRN) from Sara Tyler (1-0)
2nd half – No score
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “(It was) a close game tonight and pleased to get the win against a rival. Coming off a tough loss to Neshaminy yesterday and facing South, we knew that it would be long grind tonight, but credit to the girls for digging deep and holding firm at the end to get the win.”
–The game: “We were a little shaky to start the game and South had plenty of energy. Once we got hold of the ball, I thought we played some really good soccer at times in the first half.
“We scored in the first 15 minutes when Sara Tyler was able to find Mia Cairone who finished in the bottom corner.
“After that we had a couple of scares. Reese Ludwig came up with two really good saves, but we also remained dangerous. Mia hit the post twice, and Audrey Rogan was really unlucky not to score on a great save from the South keeper.
At the start of the second half, South came out strong, and we were definitely concerned but we rode the storm and started to gain more possession although we couldn’t find a second goal. Inevitably, in the last few minutes, it seemed like the ball wouldn’t get out of our end, but our defensive players and Reese in goal really came through.
–Props: “On the second game of a back-to-back, I was really happy with how we played, and the energy we gave to get the win. We continue to talk about our depth, and tonight was no different. Our defensive players – Bella Lanza, Audrey Thomson, Alexa Pikul, Kinsley Smith, Amber Yuan and Amanda Gardner – did a really good job at chasing runners, blocking shots and defending crosses and set pieces. Reese Ludwig did an excellent job in goal this evening, and overall, it really was a good team win.”
Next up: Council Rock North (6-2, 3-1 SOL) will travel to Pennsbury Tuesday (4 pm), and Council Rock South (3-3, 2-2) will be on the road at Bensalem Tuesday.

NESHAMINY 5, PENNSBURY 1
Showing no ill effects from their grueling overtime win one day earlier, the Redskins took care of business in a hurry, scoring three goals in a 10-minute span early in the first half to seize control of the game on their way to the win.
Kylie Maxwell scored the game’s first goal nine minutes in, and that ignited the Redskins’ offense. It was followed in short order by an Ava Hood goal and Kylie Maxwell’s second goal of the game.
The second half included Kylie Maxwell’s third goal as well as a goal from Taylor Maxwell before the Falcons scored midway through the half for the 5-1 final.
Scoring Summary
First half
Kylie Maxwell (N) from Abby Collins 30:55 (1-0)
Ava Hood (N) from Taylor Maxwell 26:07 (2-0)
Kylie Maxwell (N) from Anna Axenroth 21:25 (3-0)
Second half
Kylie Maxwell (N) from Keira Siwinski 38:42 (4-0)
Taylor Maxwell (N) from Kylie Maxwell 36:19 (5-0)
Pennsbury goal 17:26 (5-1)
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed: “ There were things we needed to improve from yesterday’s game. We haven’t been able to have many practices, so it turns into reminders and pregame instructions. We needed to come out with intensity because Pennsbury was going to.
–The game: “To start the game, it was a bit of back and forth till we settled down. But after a few runs, we began to connect passes and make runs and get a few more chances. Abby Collins won a tackle and turned a play that seemed harmless into our first goal when she poked a ball through to Kylie Maxwell who finished in the far corner. Then a couple minutes later Ava Hood scored off a corner to put us up 2-0. We got a few more chances just after and scored again when Anna Axenroth put a good cross into the box and the path of Kylie in stride. The hard work and lead allowed us to rotate subs into the game. Both sides had a few more chances to score. Pennsbury got a ball in behind the defense and our keeper, Alexis Barnes, made a big save to hold Pennsbury scoreless going into half.
“Coming into the second half, we reminded them of yesterday’s game. We had a lead that we let up and did not want to repeat again today. The girls came out quick when Keira Siwinski linked up with Kylie who scored less than two minutes into the half. Then it was Taylor’s turn to score when she found the ball off a cross for our fifth. But Pennsbury kept working hard. They didn’t stop and created some good chances. They were very organized on corners and free kicks, which you try to limit but can never eliminate.
–Props: Credit to our defense (Emmy Rooney, Cassidy Tweedie, Nat Weidle, Mia Ocasio, Natalie Cimochowski, and Lily Kaczmarek) today for doing a good job making stops and connecting passes. Today was a great effort from the whole team.””
Next up: Neshaminy (8-1, 4-0 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman on Tuesday, and Pennsbury (6-2-1, 2-2-0) will host Council Rock North Tuesday (4 pm).
Pennsbury 0-1 1
