SOL Colonial
Souderton 2, Central Bucks West 1
While Souderton claimed a huge win on Monday, the SOL Colonial waits for no one.
CB West hasn’t seen the same kind of results Souderton has to start the season, but the Bucks are a team growing into their identity, and effort is never a question when they step on the pitch. West put the hosts on their heels, scoring first late in the first half when senior Olivia Barrett – a standout lacrosse player – drilled home a shot inside the six off a corner kick. The Bucks have players stepping into new roles like senior Kacey Sohanic, who has recently taken up residence at center back and others like Alyssa Terry – who was all over the field Wednesday – making a mark.
After last season’s return to the playoffs, Souderton’s veteran players made it a goal to surpass their finish from a year ago. That starts with the SOL Colonial, where Big Red was just 3-7 last season.
It took two connections between seniors Julia Purvy and Hannah Beckett – one intentional with Providence commit Beckett setting up Purvy for the equalizer, the other not so much as the St. Joe’s-bound Purvy punched home a rebound of a Beckett shot – to help the hosts regain the advantage and ultimately put away the energetic Bucks.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBW – Olivia Barrett (Sofie Borgmann) 5:47
S- Julia Purvy (Hannah Beckett) 2:25
2nd Half
S-Julia Purvy 20:20
Souderton coach Melissa Lollar: “I thought we had a very strong start to the game but then took our foot off the gas for most of the first half, losing 50/50 balls all around the field. West, who is always a team that fights through games, took advantage of that and put one in. It was very key for us to get a goal before the half to give us the opportunity to regroup as a unit at half. Hannah Beckett played a well-placed ball to Julia Purvy on the run in the box for a clean finish.”
–-Big Red settles in: “After halftime, I think our team really cleaned up a lot of their play and possessed the ball to create chances. West had some strong defensive plays and saves, but we stayed patient and kept creating chances. I thought our second goal had a very strong build up with smart decision making, which led to another goal by Julia Purvy who was able to finish off a rebound from the keeper. I was proud of how the team finished the game and got the results we needed.”
Souderton senior Julia Purvy: “We did a good job of responding after we got down. We connected a lot of passes, I think we turned on each other a little bit in the first half, but we really got it together after halftime and played as a team.”
–Answering the challenge: “We came in but they wanted it more than us, so we really had to come together. We had to start winning balls out of the air, connect passes and stay together. It felt really good, we came back from being down against Pennridge, so it feels good to know we can get scored on but still come back and find a way to win.”
–Team versatility: “I feel like everyone is so selfless on the team, and we’re all willing to play wherever Coach Melissa wants us to because we know she’ll put us wherever is best for us to get a win in that game.”
CB West senior Kacey Sohanic: “We really are building as a team. I’m really proud that after each goal our opponents score on us, it doesn’t bring us down much if at all. It helps us keep our game at its top level and top intensity.”
–Making strides: “It is a challenge some days. but we all know that deep down, we want to win together this season. We all build off each other’s mood, which is great, as long as one person is in a happy mood we can all build off of that, which is a great quality to have in a team.”
SOUDERTON 1 1 – 2
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 0 – 1
Central Bucks East 5, Pennridge 3
Anyone that made it out to Buckingham for CB East’s Community Night got quite the show.
With last year’s Class 4A state champion in the host Patriots battling last year’s District 1 Class 4A champion in the Rams, the potential for a compelling match was there. It certainly delivered, CB East racing
out to a 2-0 lead and carrying a 3-1 advantage into halftime before Pennridge stormed back to tie it 3-3.
It was senior Mackenzie Peters – a tough, hard-working center midfielder not known for her scoring – that provided the decisive tally for CB East with junior Quinn Reilly providing a valuable insurance goal soon after.
The win kept CB East undefeated in the SOL Colonial table with two conference wins this week and a non-league clash with Conestoga coming up on Saturday.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBE – Taylor Roumy (Mackenzie Peters) 3rd
CBE – Mattie Williams (Mia Forney) 10th
P – Kylie Manville (Kenzie Metzler) 19th
CBE – Keira Sleicher (Rylie Leedy) 37th
2nd Half
P – Peyton Rabinowitz (Mikayla Loux) 41st
P – Georgia Moyer (Peyton Rabinowitz) 45th
CBE – Mackenzie Peters (Ella Roumy) 62nd
CBE – Quinn Reilly (Mattie Williams) 64th
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk: “Good win against a good opponent tonight. We certainly made a meal out of this one, but credit to Pennridge for pushing their way back into this game so quickly into the second
half. The effort level and intensity that team plays with makes every matchup with them a really competitive 80 minutes.”
–Patriots respond: “It was very disappointing to cough up a lead after putting together a really solid first half that saw us score three really well-worked goals from Taylor, Mattie, and Keira, but I am incredibly proud of how our group responded. They never panicked, rediscovered their rhythm, and as a result we created several really high-quality chances to give us a shot at bouncing back.”
–Peters delivers: “Eventually Mackenzie Peters got on the end of a good ball in behind from Ella Roumy – who was just lights out tonight – and Mackenzie tucked in a quick finish behind their keeper. I’m super thrilled for that kid to get the game-winner. Mackenzie’s one of those kids that does a lot of the understated stuff, but there’s a reason she’s barely stepped off the field for us since working her way into the starting line-up last year.
–Reilly’s reward: “Shortly after, Mattie Williams placed a ball in behind their backline that Quinn Reilley got on the end of for her first of the season. Quinn’s worked so hard for us in so many different spots and is such a spark for us, but we’ve been waiting for that first goal to fall this year, and she made it a great one.”
–Final thoughts: “Lots to take away from this match and while far from perfect, we saw a lot of good performances across the group and a team effort that earned this result.”
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3 2 – 5
PENNRIDGE 1 2 – 3
North Penn 2, Central Bucks South 1
The Knights left their Monday draw with CB West feeling like they were trending the right way.
Wednesday proved those notions correct, North Penn breaking a halftime deadlock with an inspired effort against the host Titans. CB South scored first, taking a lead inside the first 10 minutes on a quick field flip orchestrated by Khloe Montini setting up Olivia Creswick.
North Penn responded quickly on the capable foot of Annaliese Marnien.
Xienna Bachmann put the visitors in front early in the second half and the Knights defense was up to the challenge to preserve their first SOL win of the fall.
Scoring Summary
1st half
CBS – Olivia Creswick (Khloe Montini) 8th
NP – Annaliese Marnien (Lani Bachmann) 15th
2nd half
NP – Xienna Bachmann (Maddie Gorman) 50th
North Penn coach Mike Rio: “Really happy with the performance today. Just a full 80 minutes where I thought we really did a good job of controlling the game and possession and limiting some of their chances. They can really be a dangerous team and we didn’t give them much to work with so I was really proud of the defensive effort.”
–Titans strike, Knights respond: “They went up 1-0 on a counter attack after we had thought we scored at the other end, but the goalie made a nice play to keep the ball from going over the line completely. After that we rebounded quickly when Lani played a great ball to Annaliese who was able to beat a defender off the dribble and hit a rocket past the keeper.”
–NP takes the lead: “In the second half we went up when Maddie Gorman played a through ball to Xienna and she was composed and dribbled around the keeper as she came out. The forwards really worked hard on and off the ball today. After that we did a great job holding the lead.”
–Knights defense locks up: “Jadyn Sperling really anchored the back line along with Alyssa Chartrand, Allison Schall and Kayla Sharp. They just really did not give up any extra opportunities. When needed, Julia Fiore made the necessary saves and was aggressive in cutting off any balls coming into the box.
–Props: “The midfield play of Lani, Maddie, Elliot Hanrahan and Paige Gladfelter was superb, and they just controlled that portion of the field. Mallory Klaiber gave us good minutes off the bench while Madi Morrow and Avery Krepps also had strong games. We’ve felt like we’ve been improving each game, and this is really a great win for us over a strong CB South team that hopefully gives us more confidence as we move through the rest of the season.”
CB South coach Dana Cole: “North Penn scored a goal in the second half, and we just couldn’t make a comeback. I have to give North Penn the credit – they came out and played like a team the whole game and you could tell they just really wanted to win. We have some work to do for sure.”

SOL Freedom
Lower Moreland 4, Springfield Twp 0
The first meeting of the season between the Lions and Spartans had plenty at stake.
Neither team had taken a defeat yet coming in while a winner would get sole possession of first in the SOL Freedom standings. It was a competitive battle, but it was the homestanding Lions who seized the advantage to stay undefeated in the conference table.
LM’s defense has been extremely sharp this season, and it took a complete group effort from the backs and senior keeper Mariah Gazzara to post the shutout against a Spartans attack that can score with anyone.
Scoring Summary

LM – Luka Fellah (Quinn Rozanski)12:45
2nd Half
LM – Shannon Mahon (Luka Fellah) 19:08
LM – Ella Fey (Evie O’Brien) 8:40
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill: “We had a strong showing against a really good Springfield team today. I am really proud of my girls who played a disciplined game in every facet and remained disciplined for 80 minutes. Every girl on the team made significant contributions; it was a team effort.”
—Gazzara protects the goal: “I have to begin with a shout out to senior goaltender Mariah Gazzara. Springfield really began putting pressure on us in the last 20 minutes of the first half. They had some really nice shots. In turn, Mariah had some outstanding saves. She kept us in the game and allowed us to continue playing our game plan throughout the game due to another clean sheet.”
—Back line on its game: “Our defense was really sharp. Springfield has some really strong attackers. Our back line remained really disciplined and supported one another whenever there was a breakdown. Notable performances by freshman Ava DeMarco and senior Izzy O’Brien today.”
—Mahon propels attack: “Shannon Mahon had another strong performance at attack and connected with wing players Gabbie Sellecchia and Luka Fellah, who among the three of them accounted for 3 out of 4 of our goals and assists.”

New Hope-Solebury 3, Upper Moreland 2
It was a moment the Lions had been waiting for all season.
After six losses to start the season, New Hope-Solebury went on the road Wednesday and put together a superb start. The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead, scoring twice in a seven-minute span then tacked on an ultimately vital third goal from senior Cece Capriotti on her birthday early in the second half.
Capriotti’s goal became the winning tally after a furious rally from the hosts, UM getting goals from Keiley Hawk and Madison White – the first of her career – a minute apart then continuing to apply pressure to the final whistle to make it a hard-earned win for the Lions.

UM – Keiley Hawk 61st
UM – Madison White (Leah King) 62nd
Goalkeeper Saves: UM – Gracie Costello 3, Madison Moore 2
New Hope-Solebury coach Chris Shank: “Upper Moreland is a well-coached team with some threatening throw-ins and set pieces. Our girls started strong and locked it down in a frantic final 15 minutes. It was a total team effort.
Upper Moreland assistant Sarah Veneziale: “We came out strong against New Hope, creating several offensive opportunities early in the match. Despite generating chances and putting pressure on the New Hope defense, we were unable to generate a goal in the first half. New Hope took advantage of its opportunities and built a two-goal lead before adding another goal in the second half. New Hope and their coach, Chris Shank, put together a strong performance and were able to capitalize on their opportunities throughout the match.”
–Bears battle back: “We responded with a strong offensive push. Keiley Hawk found the back of the net. One minute later, Madison White scored from an assist by Leah King. We continued to fight, creating additional scoring opportunities but were unable to finish. Julie Albert, Keiley Hawk, Madison White and goalkeeper Gracie Costello all had standout plays that contributed to our strong efforts.”

William Tennent 4, Cheltenham 0
Last season, injuries hit Tennent hard.
This season, with a much better bill of health across the board, the Panthers have been able to use their depth in ways they weren’t able to much of last season. That’s always a big plus in a long season or even game to game when the team might need a spark from someone who may not have started that day.
Using their depth the last few games has kept the team’s legs fresh and the offense was able to take advantage in Wednesday’s matchup led by a brace from junior Leah Guzman.
Scoring Summary

WT – Leah Guzman (Bailey Kasner)
WT – Bailey Kasner
2nd half

William Tennent coach Elise Jara: “We are fortunate to have a deep bench this year, and it has helped contribute to our success the past few games. Strong game by junior Leah Guzman with two goals as well as freshman Sarah Criss in the midfield and senior striker Bailey Kasner. We were relentless in our attack and had several good chances that were stopped by some excellent goaltending on the other end.”

Three days, three games, three wins.
It was certainly a daunting task the Cardinals faced at the start of the week, but they responded in near perfect fashion. Not only did UD record three straight victories, they did so without allowing a goal in any of them.
That’s 240 minutes of scoreless soccer authored by sophomore keeper Evie Steigerwald and defenders Brooke Ellner, Morgan Welsh, Shannon Connaughton and Bailey Fichter.
Scoring Summary

2nd Half
UD – Emmerson Smith 46th
UD – Ellie Wilson (Bridget DiMartile) 76th
UD coach Darius Gbunblee: “Coming into this game, we knew it was going to be a tough one. Playing Abington on their home field is always a challenge, and with this being our third game in just as many days, we knew the girls might be a little tired. We came out a bit sluggish in the first half, but the girls continued to battle and eventually found their rhythm.”
–Opening up the game: “We were able to open things up with a great effort goal from Emerson Smith, followed by another goal from sophomore Ellie Wilson, who recorded her first varsity goal. Congratulations to Ellie on a great accomplishment.”
–Shutout standouts: “I also want to give a shout-out to our defense for another outstanding performance and another clean sheet. Overall, I’m proud of the way the girls battled through a demanding three-game stretch and found a way to get the result.”

Quakertown 4, Hatboro-Horsham 0
The Panthers have shown some strong continuity in their attack the last few games, but their difference maker on Wednesday was the defense.
After a back-and-forth game against Plymouth Whitemarsh on Monday, Quakertown’s young back line – which did not include a senior on Wednesday – responded with a shutdown effort and made sure the attack could focus on creating the best chances possible. Sparked by an early Olimpico by Mya James, the talented midfielder scoring directly on a corner kick, Brynn Gillian and Shylee Williams made sure the Panthers got all the offense they would need from there.
Scoring Summary

Q – Mya James 6th
Q – Brynn Gillian 33rd
2nd Half
Q – Shylee Williams (Brynn Gillian) 43rd
Q – Shylee Williams (Emily Marzinkie) 48th
Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich: “I want to highlight my entire back line defense. Sophomore Brook Bailey, junior Brielle Bailey, sophomore Lacey Garner and sophomore Alexa Reich. All of the girls played calm and composed defensive soccer all game. This group was a big reason we were able to get a shutout tonight.”
–Props: “Junior Shylee Williams scored two goals on the night and was a force on the wing all game, constantly putting pressure on the Hatboro defense by putting in numerous dangerous crosses for the Quakertown attack. Senior holding midfielder Brynn Gillian was a major force for us in the middle of the pitch. She headed in a corner kick and assisted on the third goal of the game. Brynn controlled our attack but also supported our defense for outlets all game.”
QUAKERTOWN 2 2 – 4
HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 0 – 0
Plymouth Whitemarsh 0, Wissahickon 0
A new challenge facing soccer teams across the state this season is the removal of regular season overtime.
The NCAA did away with regular season overtime in 2022, and it seemed like a matter of time before the NFHS – the governing body responsible for making and maintaining the rules for high school sports in the United States – followed suit. The idea is to reduce wear and tear on athletes, especially during weeks where they may be playing multiple games in a short amount of time.
At the same time, it’s taken away a potential 20 extra minutes for teams to try and find a win.
Counting Wednesday night’s results, there have been 10 draws this fall on the girls’ side with Plymouth Whitemarsh now having been a part of three of them.
On the bright side for the Colonials, two of those draws have been scoreless thanks in large part to the play of freshman Jules Rex in goal, the first year starter now with three clean sheets this fall.
Scoring Summary

PW coach TJ DeLucia: “That is three draws in a row. It is getting a little frustrating, but this is the new reality with PIAA canceling high school regular season overtime. Both us and Wiss are dealing with injuries, it is that time of year. That being said, we felt really good about our first half. We had the ball for most of the half with multiple corners, long throws, set pieces, opportunities to score. After halftime, the game evened out. Wiss played better and we seemed to tire a bit.”
–Standouts: “Freshman keeper Jules Rex continues to do a job for us in net. Sophomore captain Molly McEvoy continues to play well in midfield. Sophomore defender JJ Lafferty had a tough assignment today and did a really nice job against some dangerous wide players for Wiss. Freshman midfielder / forward Josie Marcella continues to gain confidence and improve her play as the season goes on.”

Council Rock South 3, Harry S Truman 0
The Tigers, behind a sterling effort in goal from Dani Gilbert, made sure Council Rock South had to earn its three points on Wednesday.
Gilbert made 19 stops in goal while facing a barrage of shots, her defenders putting in an admirable effort in front of her against a talented attack. On the other side, the Golden Hawks stayed poised and got a first half brace from Lorelei Hanratty to break down the persistent Tigers defense.
Lylah Day scored for a second straight game to add some insurance.
Both teams are back at it on Thursday, CR South facing Quakertown and Truman battling Philadelphia Charter Academy.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRS – Lorelei Hanratty (Anna Horn)
CRS – Lorelei Hanratty
2nd Half
CRS – Lylah Day (Liv Nonnemacher)
CR South coach Nick Heim: “We headed back on the road to an improved Truman squad. Credit to their coach for doing it the right way and building a foundation the team buys into. They play hard. Credit to Truman’s keeper, she made some incredible saves and faced 25 shots today. She had an outstanding performance.”
–Hanratty doubles up: “We got on the board in the first half when Lorelei Hanratty got on the end of an Anna Horn pass and slotted it home to go up 1-0. A few minutes later Lorelei got her brace taking advantage of a missed clearance to put us up 2-0 heading into the half.
—Wrapping up the points: “In the opening few minutes of the second half Liv Nonnemacher found Lylah Day in space and Lylah had a tidy finish to go up 3-0. Overall, happy with a road win but we know we have some cleaning up to do. Not much down time as we head to Quakertown (Thursday).”
Harry S Truman coach Brian Gilbert: “Truman had just conceded nine goals just two days ago to Pennsbury, and Council Rock was coming off a recent win against Pennsbury. The simple math didn’t provide a promising outlook for the Tigers, but the pre-game talk was to focus on improving defensively. The Tigers came out locked in, holding Council Rock scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the game before CRS scored two goals in less than three minutes. Backed by 19 saves from keeper Dani Gilbert, Truman held their own, conceding one more goal the rest of the way.”
–Props to CR South: “Council Rock South probably expected to be on the board a lot earlier in the game, but they didn’t panic and played their game. They did what good teams do, they capitalized when they had the chance. It only takes one play to change the course of a game, and the CRS girls did that today. The goals didn’t come easy, but they worked hard for the ones they scored. Truman had a few potentially developing plays that looked like we would be going in for a scoring opportunity, however much credit to the CRS center fullback who showed great anticipation in reading the play and nullifying the attack.”
–Truman props: “I’m really proud of the team effort today. The defensive tandem of juniors Gwen Marston, Isabella Romer and Natalie Klimowicz along with sophomore Harley Palencik held down the fort at the fullback position for most of the game. Senior Julianna “JuJu” Romer is primarily a basketball player, only in her second year of soccer with the team, she is still learning the game. Payton Morris brings a lot of soccer experience to the table, but is only a freshman, so she is still a few years away from having the size and strength of the juniors and seniors she is going up against. JuJu and Morris rotated at midfield, both dropping back to play fullback when the defenders needed a rest. When we needed more defensive reinforcements, freshman Jaedyn Olds stepped up and played outside fullback. Senior Julianna Aviles, also in only her second year of soccer, gave it her all for 20 straight minutes to close out the second half, doing her job defensively.”
–Takeaways: “I don’t think there’s a better definition of underdog mentality than asking those girls to play defense against a Council Rock South team that not only made the playoffs last year, but won a playoff game. We lost 3-0, but our girls held their own. They played hard for 80 minutes and the signs or progression are evident. There’s a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to with these girls.”

Council Rock North 3, Neshaminy 0
Sarina Igval had footprints all over North’s divisional win on Wednesday afternoon.
The creative attacker assisted both of the Indians’ first half goals before tallying an insurance goal of her own after halftime. It was just the lift her team needed on a rather warm afternoon, especially against a quality opponent like Neshaminy that can turn a match around in an instant.
Goals
1st half
CRN – Isabel Diaz (Sarina Igval) 38:17
CRN – Bella Lanza (Sarina Igval) 31:25
2nd half
CRN – Sarina Igval (Bella Lanza) 36:39
CR North coach Gavin Flanningan: “Very happy with our performance today, I thought we started the game with a great mindset and that set the tone for the afternoon. Isabel Diaz was able to turn in a cross from Sarina and then Bella Lanza scored a nice header from a Sarina corner in the first 10 minutes. It was a hot day and as the half wore on I think both teams were a little tired.”
—Staying on the front foot: “Any time you play Neshaminy, you know that the game isn’t over and certainly even with a two-goal lead at half time we wanted to remain aggressive and play in their end of the field. We got a great third goal from Sarina, and then we were able to manage the game and the heat through our subs.”
–Takeaways: “Overall we were very happy with the performance, although there are still areas we can improve on. I thought defensively we did a great job today limiting set pieces and opportunities for Neshaminy and credit to Sophia Mills and our back line for that.”

Twenty-four hours after bringing an end to Wissahickon’s three-game winning streak with a 2-0 shutout win, the Cards found themselves facing Archbishop Carroll in a non-league game.
With the potential for a scoreless tie looming, Maya Schulz made sure that wouldn’t happen, finding the back of the net in the 75th minute for a goal that stood as the game-winner.
“This was a tough game, and we knew it would be coming in,” UD coach Darius Gbunblee. “We play Carroll every year, and it’s always a competitive and hard-fought matchup—and this game was everything we expected it to be.”

We stayed patient and continued to battle, and that persistence finally paid off in the 75th minute when Maya Schulz found the back of the net to give us the lead.”
“I also want to give a big shout-out to our defense for another shutout. Our defensive line and goalkeeper continue to be a major strength for this team, and their consistency and effort were a big reason we were able to come away with the result.”
