Council Rock South 5, Upper Moreland 0
To say it had been a challenging run of late for the Golden Hawks would be selling it short.
Since their last win on Sept. 12, the Hawks had lost four straight matches where they were outscored 12-2 and shut out three times. If that wasn’t enough, attrition exacted a heavy toll as they had as many as seven regulars sidelined by injury during this latest stretch.
Thursday, a little closer to full strength, the Hawks finally snapped their skid.
Claire Vizza, Giana Kirlin and Brooke Pavlow all scored before halftime with Anna Horn and Ruby Bross netting after halftime. Horn was a game-changer, scoring a goal and assisting two others
Upper Moreland went through a challenging slate of its own in the crossover competition, but goalkeeper Gracie Costello put together another solid outing. The Golden Bears will venture back into SOL Freedom play where they may not share part of the division lead but could get right in the mix.

Council Rock South coach Nick Heim on the win: “We’ve been in a rough stretch against really good opponents and we’ve been pretty beat up. We had seven unavailable the other day and were missing three regular starters this afternoon so very proud of how some seized opportunities presented to them. We are slowly getting healthy so hopefully we are able to hit our stride in the second half of league play.”
–First half scoring: “Claire Vizza got us on the board on a nice through ball from Macy Laidlaw about halfway through the first half. A few minutes later Teagan Shay was able to get endline and play a dangerous ball that Gianna Kirlin slid onto the end of for a tough finish. Just before half Anna Horn found Brooke Pavlow open at the top of the 18 and Brooke put one in the upper corner.”
–Second half scoring: “We stressed keeping our foot on the gas in the second half to close out the game and within the first five minutes Horn found herself on the end of a Pavlow corner to give us a 4-0 lead. Three minutes later Horn found Ruby Bross who made a nice turn and slotted a weak footed shot into the far corner to round out the scoring.”
–Horn stands out: “Horn was fantastic today, completely controlled the tempo of the game for us and was deliberate in attack every time she touched the ball.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto: “We’ve had a tough stretch with our crossover schedule and are definitely looking forward to getting back into league play. Our defensive line did an excellent job reading their attack and caught them offside 10 times throughout the match. Our girls battled hard from start to finish, but we struggled to find our rhythm offensively. Even so, they put in a strong fight and showed great determination.”

The offense was led by goals from Ava Brnich, Liz Hanushchak, and Karter Brady. It was a full team effort, with 21 players getting minutes on the pitch — a great show of depth and unity. Central Bucks East 6, Hatboro-Horsham 1
The weather couldn’t put a damper on the Patriots’ Senior Night.
East opted to move up the start of Thursday’s duel with the Hatters, and it didn’t seem to affect its attack at all.
The Patriots honored their six seniors – Aralynn Patterson, Brooklyn Planck, Magee Williams, Paige Dougherty, Rania Kaba and Skylar Lipp – at halftime then finished the game with a goal for each of them.
Also boosting East’s efforts on Thursday was the return of Kiera Sleicher, the junior midfielder and Ole Miss recruit having been out since Sept 3 with an ankle injury, who marked the occasion with a goal, the first varsity goal from Liz Mooney and senior Raina Kaba putting a cap on the evening with a finish of her own.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBE – Mattie Williams (Mia Forney)
CBE – Ella Roumy (Taylor Roumy)
HH goal
CBE – Liz Mooney
CBE – Kiera Sleicher
2nd Half
CBE – Taylor Roumy
CBE – Rania Kaba
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “Going in, we knew this H-H team had punched their weight against some good opponents, so it was good to see our group start with a good intensity to them. I thought we played with a purpose tonight and found a good balance to how we moved the ball and I think it shows in the quality of some of the goals we
scored tonight.”
–Honoring the seniors: “A really great night for our group and happy we put together a strong performance to honor our seniors: our long-time goalkeeper Aralynn Patterson, Brooklyn Planck, Magee Williams, Paige Dougherty, Rania Kaba and Skylar Lipp. Every kid has such a different journey in this program, but they’ve all given us such good leadership and key minutes this year and beyond, so a performance like our kids put in just made it a special night.”
–First half offense: “Our first from Mia to Mattie – a driven cross that Mia has provided over and over again for us, and then our second from great link up play from Taylor to Ella were really good goals. H-H was able to pull one back, and Liz Mooney got us back to our two-goal cushion from her first Varsity goal. Kiera Sleicher came in for her first shift back from an injury and just changed the game for us immediately in her distribution and then a great individual goal to close out the half.”
–Second half: “I thought we kept a high standard and were able to clip two more great goals – one from Taylor Roumy off a really good hit from top of the box and then a hustle play from senior Rania Kaba to close out the night.”
Props: “A lot of very good performances across the roster tonight, but I loved what Addie Langlois gave us tonight in the center of the park in this one.”
Up next: CB East travels to Conestoga at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Hatboro-Horsham visits Nazareth Academy on Monday.

Neshaminy 6, William Tennent 0
Anyone watching Thursday’s match would have had a hard time telling Neshaminy was playing for the first time in a week.
In just a matter of minutes, Neshaminy was already on the board thanks to a finish by senior Bri Garyah who was the engine of a strong first half effort with two goals and an assist in the first 40 minutes. Neshaminy followed the lead of Leah Kaczmarek, who assisted the first goal, and didn’t let up in the second half to roll to the win.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
N – Bri Garyah (Leah Kaczmarek)
N – Anna Axenroth (Bri Garyah)
N – Aislyn Fitzgerald (Natalie Weidle)
N – Bri Garyah (Mia Stock)
2nd Half
N – Cassidy Tweedie
N – Chloe Santangelo (Erin Dougherty)
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed on the win: “I was really happy with the effort and passing today. I did not want to come out flat after having a week without a game but everyone seemed to be working. Scoring early helps and we were fortunate to get on the board when Leah Kaczmarek found Bri Garyah in front of the goal two minutes in.”
–Adding on goals: “More chances kept coming, this time it was Bri laying a ball back to Anna Axenroth who took a real nice shot from distance. The third goal Natalie Weidle made a run from the back and played a ball across the top of the box and Aislyn Fitzgerald was being alert and aggressive and hit a great ball hard and low into the near corner post. The fourth goal before half Bri collected and turned and found Mia Stock who made a great overlapping run from the midfield and Bri slid the ball through to her all alone to finish.”
–Second half: “Tennent came out attacking a bit more, but we settled in and were able to add two more. The first was an individual effort from Cassidy Tweedie after she picked a ball off. The second goal came on a cross from Erin Dougherty who found Chloe Santangelo in front of the goal. Really happy with everyone’s passing and play today. Standout overall today was Leah Kaczmarek, she made some great runs and set up a lot of plays.”
Up next: Neshaminy hosts CB West on Friday. William Tennent travels to Council Rock North at 11:30 am on Saturday.

North Penn 2, Quakertown 1
The Knights found themselves reeling early on Wednesday thanks to an early Quakertown goal but ended in a much better place than they started.
A goal in the waning moments of the first half, scoring by Bailee Charles on an assist by Jadyn Sperling, allowed the hosts to reset at the break. North Penn looked like a different side in the second 40 minutes, playing on the front foot, cutting out errors and generating chances.
Lani Bachmann would finally break the deadlock with a rip from distance, allowing the Knights to close out a strong crossover docket with the second half of SOL Continental play looming next week.
Scoring Summary
1st half
Quakertown 8th
NP – Bailee Charles (Jadyn Sperling) 38th
2nd half
NP – Lani Bachmann (Alyssa Chartrand) 65th
North Penn coach Mike Rio: “Tough game tonight, definitely a tale of two halves. I thought we came out a little flat and Quakertown took advantage and got an early lead. We were technically just really sloppy at the start of the game and they jumped on us. They created a few good chances and I felt like we were lucky to keep it 1-0.”
–Equalizer before half: “We started to develop more pressure towards the end of the half and tied it up after Madi Morrow played a cross in that Jadyn beat the goalie to and popped it out to Bailee who tapped it into an open net.”
–Second half turnaround: “We really stepped it up, and I felt like we controlled the game and cleaned up the mistakes from the first half. We created some good chances and finally Lani put us ahead with a great shot from about 20 out. But I was really happy then with how we closed out the game. Our girls worked really hard in the second half – it took a great team effort to beat a solid Quakertown team who definitely forced us to up our game to come out with a win. The girls really looked like two different teams tonight in each half, so the challenge moving forward is to make sure we are putting together a full 80 minutes.”
Up next: North Penn hosts Gwynedd Mercy Academy on Friday. Quakertown hosts Souderton on Friday.
