Margaret Wilde scored a pair of second-half goals to propel the Trojans to the win in Monday’s crossover game.
“We had a lot of chances in the first half, but they’re very good defensively,” Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels said. “They’re always really well organized, they make it very tough for you to score. That’s kind of their MO.”
Early in the second half, Wilde scored a goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
“We came out in the second half – we didn’t really change much,” McDaniels said. “We kept doing the same thing and thought we would break through at some point. We were having lots of chances, but we couldn’t seem to punch the ticket, and sure enough, around 10 minutes into the second half, we played a ball into a dangerous area. The defender had a hard time with the ball, it had some good pace on it, and Margaret Wilde was there to finish it in the back of the net.”
With 15 minutes remaining, Wilde connected on her second goal.
“That was really nice – a beautiful team goal,” McDaniels said. “We picked the ball up around midfield. Kylie Friedman dribbled right at the middle of their defense, we played the ball out wide to the right to Ava Schools, and she slid a nice ball right across to the penalty spot for Margaret Wilde to get her second goal of the game.”
For the first time this season, the Trojans played with both center backs – Serena Harris and Margo Kasenchar.
“Serena Harris has been out with an injury since 40 minutes into the first game of the season against Lower Merion,” McDaniels said. “We gave her a little bit of action in the last game. We wanted to work her back in slow, and today we gave her a start. This was the first day both of them started since the first day of the season.
“Our defenders have done a fantastic job. The two losses we had we literally made one mistake in each game and came out of both games with 1-0 losses. They’ve played well 99 percent of the time. It’s been really punitive. Every time we’ve made a mistake, it seems like we pick it up in the back of the net. Those things tend to right themselves over the course of the season, so I’m hoping some bounces in October do us solid.”
Wissahickon (4-2-1, 4-1-1 SOL) will play its second of four games this week when the Trojans travel to Upper Moreland on Tuesday, and Quakertown (2-3-2, 2-2-2) will host Springfield Township on Tuesday.

Sparked by the two-goal, one assist effort of Fiona Gooneratne, the Colonials picked up their second win in as many games.
“The team was thrilled for senior captain Fiona Gooneratne to get two more goals to start the game,” PW coach TJ DeLucia said. “She’s the engine for us right now. The team follows her lead. It’s a lot of pressure, but she can handle it. We continue to encourage her to shoot more.”
The Colonials opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on their way to the no-doubt-about-it win. It was Gooneratne setting the tone for the contest when she scored back-to-back goals out of the gate – the first from deep and the other on a corner kick that curled in.
“Ella Clark scored an excellent header off of a Goonerate corner kick,” DeLucia said of his team’s third goal. “Sophia Carlisle finished the scoring with a nice, first time finish off a beautiful pass from Caelin Kosvitch.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlyn Dinh earned her second straight shutout behind a strong backline of Liberty Daddonna, Meghan Wendler, Brianna Reynolds, Kate Lukens, Quinn Daley and Emma Vuotto.
“Caitlyn Dinh finaly got a bit of a break,” DeLucia said. “We had the ball for the majority of the game, so we were able to work on some things in terms of how we want to attack. Hopefully, that carries over against New Hope-Solebury (Tuesday).
“Defensively, we handled their counterattacks. We used six different defenders today, and (our) focus didn’t drop, no matter who was in.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (2-5, 1-5 SOL) will host New Hope-Solebury on Tuesday.
