SOL Patriot Division
Council Rock South 3, Pennsbury 2 (2 OT)
Council Rock South girls’ soccer is a community and never was that more on display than Friday night under the lights.
Past, present and future generations of Golden Hawks came together to watch a terrific match between the hosts and visiting Falcons in CR South’s community night. Future Hawks joined the starting lineup on the field pregame, the current Hawks secured a hard-fought win and after the game, Hawks of the past helped celebrate a milestone in coach Nick Heim’s 100th win.
Heim is quick to pass off any credit for the success to his players and seeing program alums on his staff or making a trip brought home the sense of community the program wants to emulate.
“Pretty cool to have had assistants that were part of some of the wins as players and coaches. Paula Grasela was on the team when I started as a volunteer 15 years ago and Julie Rebh was a senior the year I took over. As an alum, I always felt South soccer and (boys soccer coach) Alan Nicholl were a big part of who I am and why I love teaching and coaching in this community,” Heim said. “It’s not so much me; I always tell the girls it is their program, I just make substitutions but hoping to continue to pass on the love for this program to the next generations.
“Having alumni take trains home and surprise me after the game was really special.”
As for the match, it was an instant classic that needed two overtimes to decide, thanks to an inspired effort from the visiting Falcons and goalkeeper Madi Miller, a senior captain committed to Misericordia.
Riley O’Halloran collected a brace, including the game winner, while senior captain Kathryn O’Kane – a Scranton recruit – notched a goal and an assist for the Hawks.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRS – Riley O’Halloran (Kathryn O’Kane)
P – Abbie Ellis
2nd Half
CRS – Kathryn O’Kane (Gianna Kirlin)
P – Ria Pvezner (Jordyn Patrick)
OT2
CRS – Riley O’Halloran (Fiona Reckner)
CR South coach Nick Heim on the win: “A thriller in Holland that took two overtimes to decide. We had community night under the lights with CRUSA and HEX girls joining our starting lineup on the field pregame. A great environment that we feel was really special. So many of the girls on our roster used to come watch the classes before them, so to be able to continue that was something we don’t take lightly.”
Back-and-forth play: “We got off to a good start 12 minutes in when Riley O’Halloran took a Kathryn O’Kane pass to put us up 1-0. We threatened with a second but couldn’t find it. Pennsbury shifted the tide and got one back with just under five left in the half to go into halftime deadlocked. Play went back and forth in the second half, and it was O’Kane getting on the end of a Gianna Kirlin pass to put us up 2-1 with 14 to play. Pennsbury kept battling and tied it with just under four to go in regulation.
“Both teams had chances in overtime, but halfway through the second OT, Fiona Reckner’s throw made its way to O’Halloran in a scrum, and she was able to put it home to end it.” Fantastic finish to a great SOL battle. “Kudos to Pennsbury coming to play and having the better run of it at times.”
Reflecting on 100 wins: “There were some legendary coaches in this program before me: Jim Dunn, Tim Keddie – who brought me on staff – Jon Oberholtzer and more so to be the first to 100 made it more special when those are coaches that I looked up to growing up.”
Pennsbury coach Jenna Peterson on the match: “Our senior goalie Madi Miller had some fantastic saves tonight. Both teams fought hard, unfortunately in second over time we let one in – it was a scramble, I will have to watch the tape back to see what happened.
“Congrats to Nick on 100 wins, that is awesome and well deserved.”
Up next: CR South (7-4, 4-2 SOL) hosts Parkland at 3:30 on Monday. Pennsbury (7-6-1, 2-4-0) visits Harry S Truman at 4pm on Oct. 8.

Neshaminy 6, Bensalem 1
Kylie Maxwell went for her second hat trick in as many games to pace another big game for the Neshaminy attack. The senior, bound for Wake Forest, capped a seven-goal week with another dynamic effort on a wet weather afternoon.
Senior Keira Siwinski, a Millersville recruit, and sophomore Anna Axenroth each tallied a pair of assists while senior Taylor Maxwell – a Syracuse recruit – added an assist on one of her twin sister’s goals.
Scoring Summary
1st half
N – Kylie Maxwell (Keira Siwinski) 39:40
N – Kylie Maxwell (Taylor Maxwell) 15:27
N – Taylor Maxwell (Keira Siwinski) 2:10
2nd Half
N – Kylie Maxwell 20:13
B- Brooke Esposito 5:43
N – Mia Stock (Anna Axenroth) 2:09
N – Cassidy Tweedie (Anna Axenroth) 1:06
Neshaminy coach Josh van Reed on the win: “I was very happy with the team’s performance today. We were able to get on the board quickly when Kylie took a very quick shot and hit it hard and on the ground. With the field being wet the ball took off and got under the keep as she dove. Once we got the second goal, we relaxed a little. Bensalem has some good possession and settled and moved the ball well where we had some back and forth play. But we kept pushing and Taylor tucked one in to give us an additional cushion before half.”
Second half: “It was more back and forth play where we had some chances to score then Kylie got one on a rebound. Again, Bensalem was continuing to work hard and was rewarded when Brooke Esposito hit a nice ball from distance for their goal. But our girls were still pushing and scored off a pair of corners at the end of regulation, first was Mia Stock with a header at the back post, then a minute later Cassidy Tweedie.”
Standouts: “I was happy with the switching of play today. Ava Hood did a great job of winning the ball and finding the open player on the opposite side of the field. I was really happy with the play from the wing, Anna Axenroth, Allie Ortman and Leah Kaczmarek did a great job all day holding position and advancing the ball. Kylie had another good day of scoring goals and creating opportunities. Hats off to Bob and his staff, they do a great job at Bensalem and always play us tough.”
Up next: Bensalem (2-8, 1-5 SOL) visits Plymouth Whitemarsh at 3:30 on Tuesday. Neshaminy (12-2 6-0) hosts Council Rock South at 7pm on Oct. 8.

SOL Colonial
Central Bucks East 2, Central Bucks South 1
The Patriots went 2-0 against the Titans in the regular season, but either matchup could have easily gone the other way.
East had to withstand an early onslaught under the lights Friday, which saw the host Titans take a 1-0 lead, but rallied back for a halftime tie. Sophomore Ava Mignon, who has followed her older sisters Izzy and Sofia as a consistent presence in the middle of the pitch, stepped up as a catalyst, assisting Mia Forney’s equalizer before she netted the winner in the second half.
The first half of the SOL Colonial was protracted battle between all six members and while the Patriots picked up their sixth division win in six tries, they aren’t taking any of them for granted.
Scoring Summary
1st half
CBS – Olivia Daniele 33
CBE – Mia Forney (Ava Mignon) 25
2nd Half
CBE – Ava Mignon (Stella Genin)
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “First off, massive props to CB South for the effort and intensity they brought to this game. For the first 15 minutes they were all over us and we were really off, and they capitalized early. I thought we found a good rhythm late in the first and most definitely in the second, but both teams created enough to win this game, no doubt out about it. Their girls are one of the best transitional teams I’ve seen, and I’m so proud of our girls for digging in and pulling out a win in this one.”
On Forney’s equalizer: “Mia Forney leveled the game from a great ball by Ava Mignon a little less than 10 minutes after South opened the scoreline, and it was simply Mia being Mia. Great pace, great off the dribble, and an awesome finish. She drew a lot of attention in this game defensively and still managed to break through and create a few really good opportunities.”
Team props: “Second half, we made a few minor tweaks, and the girls just settled into the game a bit. Our midfield had a really, really good night combining off one another, Kiera Sleicher was great tonight – super composed- and Jessie Bernabe and Stella Genin just kept getting the girls around them involved, taking their space well, which just opened up the game for us in their half.”
Mignon’s game-winner: “After a really great run from Taylor Roumy on the dribble, the ball went out for a throw on the left side, right near the 18. Stella Genin made a great heads-up
play to throw it in to Ava, who was sitting a bit outside the box. Ava just squared her hips up and hit one of the best balls I’ve seen at this level. Ava is one of those kids who does so much work for us everywhere and spends most of her time doing the little things that make this team tick, so to see her step up, again against South, and score that goal, it’s a great moment and she’s so deserving.
“From there, that last 15 was a bit of a battle, we had to see off a few good chances from South and were incredibly happy to see the scoreboard hit 00:00. Overall, exactly the type of game you’d expect from two sister schools and this conference in late September, and we are happy to get the three points on the road.”
CB South coach Pat Lordi on the match: “We lost a tough game against a really good East team. Olivia Daniele scored the first goal of the game 33:02 into the first half. Unfortunately, that was the only goal we would create. We had several chances that were generated in the box that could not be finished. It was the second time we played East to 2-1 game. We will learn from this game and hopefully gain valuable experience that will help us the remainder of the year. I was really proud of the mentality we had going into the game. The girls played hard it was just a difference of two halves.”
Up next: CB East (12-1, 6-0 SOL) hosts Oley Valley at 3:30 on Monday. CB South (10-4, 3-3) hosts North Penn at 7pm on Oct. 8.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 0 – 1
Central Bucks West 4, North Penn 1
Emery Sterling had herself quite a week.
West’s nonstop goal-hunter was exceptionally sharp Wednesday with two goals then outdid herself with a monster effort Friday. The junior, who pledged to play at NJIT last week, lit up the scoreboard with a hat trick and an assist as the Bucks started the second half of SOL Colonial play with a bang.
The Bucks also stopped North Penn’s win streak at three despite a goal from Buffalo recruit Maddy Murphy.
Sterling wrapped up a 3-0-0 week with five goals and a helper. West senior midfield maestro Eva Wierzbowski was on her game too, the Pitt recruit chalking up a goal and assist on Friday and running up a weeklong tally of three assists.

CBW – Emery Sterling (Eva Wierzbowski)
CBW – Eva Wierzbowski (Emery Sterling)
2nd Half
CBW – Emery Sterling
CBW – Emery Sterling (Rian Detweiler)
NP – Maddy Murphy
CB West coach Bree Benedict on the win: “Really thrilled with the team performance today. Fallon Darrows had a solid game in goal, dealt with a lot of challenging back passes in the rainy conditions and did so perfectly. Maura Duffy and Lauren Overbeck were tremendous in the air today, very strong performance. Eva Wierzbowski was magic on the ball creating and handling some difficult tackles. She found space well and involved everyone on the ball. Mackenzie Gausch put in another outstanding game with her hustle, heading, and creativity. Emery continues to be spectacular in front of goal, she’s such a pleasure to coach and is a great teammate. She’s really leading from the front.”
West standouts: “Our freshman Addie Hermann really settled in today and was quality in the wide area with Avery Markowitz, Rian Detweiler, Olivia Barrett, Anna McGrath and Kira Winn. Our backline of Kaia Ward, Janelle Blokker, Mia Menard and Reegan Moran were shut down all day. Great credit to Maddie Murphy she’s a special player and created their goal late in the game.”
Bucks junior forward Emery Sterling” “It’s so awesome to come out of the week with three wins. I’m super proud of how the team came together to fight. We have been emphasizing going 80 minutes strong and the whole team put on a complete performance.“

The Rams got a lift from two returning players in a hard-fought win Friday night.
Kate Brashear and Gabriella “G” Howley both made their season debuts for Pennridge coming off knee injuries. Brashear got right into the mix, assisting Madigan Posey’s game-winner in the first half.
Pennridge’s defense wrapped up a 3-0-0 week with three shutouts.
Scoring Summary
P – Madigan Posey (Kate Brashear)
Pennridge coach Audrey Anderson on the win: “Gabriella Howley and Kate Brashear are making their way back to the field. The team really rallied around them tonight while they were on the field. It was a great moment.”
Standouts: “Kaylie Thran was very good tonight, she created a couple really good goal scoring opportunities and worked really good on the defensive side of the ball as well. The mids were really effective tonight, they won balls out of the air and were able to get some shots off. Madigan Posey hit a ‘banger’ which was our game winning goal.”
Defensive work: “Defensively we played hard and smart, not giving up a goal. Each game we seem to get better and better with our defensive game. We were very happy with the shutout.”

SOL Liberty
Wissahickon 1, Upper Dublin 0
The Trojans did what no team could do the first time through the Liberty table, not only handing Upper Dublin a loss but snapping the Cardinals’ nine-match win streak.
An early goal led to the smash-and-grab win, Wissahickon getting plenty of contributions from a bit of a patchwork lineup to get a quality result coming off a tough slate of crossover games.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
W – Lila Marciniak
Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels on the win:
–Props: “The back line was great. Due to injuries, we are asking players to fill in at spots and they’ve put their best effort forward for the team. Lainey Werynski and Kaylee Hammond supported Ellie Stein and goalkeeper Olivia Lore in keeping a clean sheet. In the midfield, Sophia Yeh was great at winning first balls. Offensively, Emma Greenberg was disruptive. Our goal was scored by Lila Marciniak on a well struck corner kick.”

The effects of a long week certainly took a toll on the Colonials and Panthers, with neither team at full strength Friday, but it didn’t stop them from a hard-fought and competitive fixture.
PW went down early, but the gritty Colonials battled back for a level score at halftime and rode an inspired effort by Mia Baron to a solid win to resume division play. Baron assisted on the first half equalizer, then came through with the second half winner to spark the Colonials
Scoring Summary
1st Half
Q
PW – Katie Lukens (Mia Baron)
2nd Half
PW – Mia Baron (Marleigh Burton)
PW coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “Both teams were a bit under-manned today with injury and illness, but both teams really battled in the rain for 80 minutes. It was a terrific game.”
First half and equalizer: “We went down 1-0 early on a rainy day. We answered back quickly after. Mia Baron played a beautiful corner kick that senior captain and center back Katie Lukens headed it in to tie the game. The rest of the half was pretty even.”
Second half and winner: “Midway through the second half, freshman left back Harper Reilly made a run down the left side of the field and put a cross in. Junior forward Marleigh Burton tipped it to the back post where our other junior forward, Mia Baron, put it in at the back post. Both teams had a few more opportunities to score as we hit crossbar on a header and missed a breakaway.”
Offensive standouts: “Mia Baron had her best game of the season. Junior midfielder/forward Keira Whelan was terrific with her hold-up play throughout the game. Sophomore Maddi Lazaroff had to step in and play defensive midfield for most of the game and she really came into her own.”
Defensive standouts: “Quality game from goalkeeper Olivia Bragg and our backline of Harper Reilly, Katie Lukens, Kaiane Jayo, and Maddie McLaughlin was just tremendous. Quakertown has very dangerous wings and our back four dealt with them well. While the first 60 minutes was back and forth, we really had to defend for the final 20 minutes as Quakertown pushed forward for an equalizer.”
