Non-League
Central Bucks East 2, Villa Joseph Marie 1
Playing 80 minutes of strong soccer 18 times over the course of a regular season schedule is a tall order for any team.
A sign of a good team is one that can not have its best effort but still find a way to a result. No matter its record, Villa Joseph Marie has historically been a team that keeps its opponents from playing their best, and the Jems did their part to disrupt the Patriots on Monday.
At the end however, East had done enough to pick up its 12th win of the season.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBE – Kiera Sleicher
2nd Half
CBE – Madelyn Hill
VJM goal
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “Bit of an up and down game for us, but that tends to happen once or twice unexpectedly during a long season. Credit to this group for getting the result. I thought we created enough to stretch the lead in the first half, but we just didn’t, and that’s credit to Villa’s Keeper and backline and for sure a bit on us.”
Up next: CB East (13-1, 6-0 SOL) hosts Pennridge in a key SOL Liberty duel at 7pm on Oct. 8.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1 1 – 2
VILLLA JOSEPH MARIE 0 1 – 1
Parkland 2, Council Rock South 2 (2 OT)
The Golden Hawks’ certainly duck the competition for this shortened week.
Monday saw CR South welcome the team that ended its season in the PIAA 4A playoffs last year in annual District 11 power Parkland. Neither team had its full roster, but that didn’t prevent either side from giving its all to try and secure a win.
CR South’s reward for going toe-to-toe with a state semifinalist from last year on Monday? A Tuesday trip to last year’s state champion, Pennridge.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRS – Gianna Kirlin (Brianna Howard)
Parkland goal
2nd Half
Parkland goal
CRS – Kathryn O’Kane
CR South coach Nick Heim on the match: “Both teams came into the game a bit short-handed, but the competitiveness from last fall picked right up. It was a good game for us against a D11 powerhouse. They played a different style, so to have to adjust to that will do us some good moving forward.”
Back and forth battle: “We were able to get on the board midway through the first half when Brianna Howard found Gianna Kirlin making a darting run to give us the lead. Parkland was able to equalize just before the half and we were deadlocked at the break. Midway through the second half a Parkland player drew a penalty, and they went up 2-1. We continued to battle, and Kathryn O’Kane found the far upper 90 with 1:45 left in regulation to force OT. I thought we dominated the first OT and were unlucky to not get a winner. They had a better run of play the second OT and we walked away with a draw.”
Standuouts: “O’Kane took a beating today but was dynamic for us, and I thought Krissy Philip had a great game in our backline. Ella Mayberry came up huge in some aerial battles in goal to help split the points.”
Up next: CR South (7-4-1, 4-2-0 SOL) travels to Pennridge for a 3:30 pm meeting on Tuesday.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 1 0 0 – 2
PARKLAND 1 1 0 0 – 2
Pennridge 4, Quakertown 1
The more scoring threats a team can put on the field, the more difficult it becomes to defend.
Pennridge has some top scorers in seniors Caitlyn Peace and Riley Williams, but the Rams don’t need them to put away every chance. While the duo each tallied a goal and an assist on Monday, it was four goals coming from four different players that was in line with what the Rams are looking for.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
P – Caitlyn Peace (Riley Williams)
P – Erin Corbett
Quakertown goal
2nd Half
P – Riley Willams (Avery Runk)
P – Emma Shaeffer (Caitlyn Peace)
Pennridge coach Audrey Anderson on the win: “We were able to create a lot of scoring opportunities and finishing four of them with four different goals scorers was a great sign. Riley and Avery’s corner play was great, it was well executed to get a goal. Emma Shaeffer and Erin Corbett both scored hard earned goals and Caitlyn finished 1v1 with the keeper.”
Defensive work: “Our backs were very good at winning balls out of the air tonight and defended Quakertown’s very fast forwards. CeCe DeMoss came up with some good saves tonight.”
Up next: Pennridge (12-1, 5-1 SOL) hosts Council Rock South at 3:30 on Tuesday. Quakertown (7-6, 2-3) travels to Wissahickon for an SOL Liberty make-up game at 3:30 on Tuesday.
PENNRIDGE 2 2 – 4
QUAKERTOWN 1 0 – 1
Wissahickon 1, Mount Saint Joseph Academy 1 (2 OT)
The Trojans, short players and down a goal at halftime, showed plenty of grit to battle back and split the bill with the Magic on Monday.
Sophia Yeh scored on header on a corner kick from Ellie Miller to even the score.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
Mount St. Joseph
2nd Half
W – Sophia Yeh (Ellie Miller)
Wiss coach Chris McDaniels on the match: “We were down a goal at half and missing some players. The team stepped up and managed a draw in a tight game. Sophia Yeh had a beautiful header on a corner kick from Ellie Miller to level it at one. Both teams had some chances in overtime but couldn’t convert.”
Up next: Wissahickon (4-5-3, 1-2-2 SOL) hosts Quakertown in an SOL Liberty game at 3:30 on Tuesday.
WISSAHICKON 0 1 0 0 – 1
MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH ACADEMY 1 0 0 0 – 1
Faith Christian Academy 2, Lower Moreland 1
The Lions could never seem to find their footing against a Faith Christian side that’s one of the top teams in the District 1 Class A standings.
LM coach Todd Hill on the match: “Faith Christian outworked us today to earn a 2-1 win. Ruby Levin scored our loan goal today in the first half. She hustled after a rebound and put it in the back of the net. We had really solid play by both of our keepers, Giuliana Fogarty and Mariah Gazzara, today.”
Up next: Lower Moreland (9-4, 5-0 SOL) hosts Springfield Twp at 7pm on Oct. 8.
