Non-league
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 11, WILLIAM TENNENT 3
Rock South opened its season with a convincing non-league road win.
The Golden Hawks, who pounded out 16 hits, were led by the four-hit effort of Ameerah Wheet while teammates Gabby Bloom and Kaylie Walters each had three hits. In the circle, Lexi Waring was in command.
“Lexi Waring pitched a great game,” Rock South coach Dan Schram said. “Seniors Kaylie Walters and Ameerah Wheet were great on offense, and Kelly Delise had a clutch 2-RBI hit and three RBIs. Gabby Bloom had three hits, and Maddie McLean played great in the outfield. It was a total team effort.”
The Golden Hawks used their speed to put a pair of runs on the board in the first. Walters led off the inning with a single, stole second, moved up to third on defensive indifference and scored on Delise’s groundout. Wheet followed and legged out a bunt single, stole second and scored on a two-out error.
Tennent got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Gigi DeMito lined a two-out RBI double to center, but the Hawks answered with three runs in the top of the second. Julia Scannapieco’s one-out single was the lone hit of an inning that included two walks and a pair of miscues.
Rock South all but put the game out of reach with a four-run fourth inning that featured consecutive singles by Gabby Bloom, Lexi Waring, Walters, Kelly Delise (2 RBIs), Wheet (RBI) and Angelina Comerford. The Hawks, who led 9-1, also benefitted from a costly error
The Golden Hawks added two more runs in the fifth to go on top 11-1 before the Panthers scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to Anna Coulter’s two-run single.
Tennent was led by the two-hit effort of Victoria Colagreco.
For the Golden Hawks, Wheet was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, Walters was 3-for-5 with a double and four runs scored while Bloom was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Walters stole two bases and Wheet, one base.
In a winning effort, Waring threw 6.1 innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out nine and walking none.

QUAKERTOWN 2, UPPER PERKIOMEN 0
Abbey Wagner tossed her second shutout in as many games, allowing just two hits while striking out 13 in a brilliant complete game non-league win.
“Abbey was fantastic in the circle,” Quakertown coach Dave Scott said. “She worked out of a couple of jams and really worked ahead on most of the hitters. Her changeup was not great today, but she really had her other pitches working.
“A couple of timely hits were enough to win the game. Their pitcher is very good, so we were really pleased with the win.”
In the bottom of the second, Upper Perk had a one-out baserunner on second after a two-base error, and that runner moved up to third on a groundout, but Wagner closed out the inning with a strikeout.
With the game still scoreless, Upper Perk had a pair of one-out baserunners in the bottom of the third, thanks to a single and a hit batsman, but the threat ended when the Panthers executed a strikeout doubleplay as catcher Maya Hellyer threw out the runner attempting to steal third.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Ava Beal grounded a double to left to lead off the inning, and Katie Muller followed with an RBI double to center. With two outs, Hellyer singled to center, plating Muller, and the Panthers had all the runs Wagner would need.
Upper Perk put its leadoff batter on in the bottom of the fourth as the result of a Panther miscue. Wagner retired the next three batters she faced – two on strikeouts.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Indians had a pair on board after a leadoff single and two-out error, but a popup to third ended that threat.
Wagner put an exclamation on an glittering performance in the circle, striking out the side in a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
The Panthers collected six hits with Hellyer the only player with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Quakertown (2-0) will travel to Pennridge Friday for a non-league game at 6:30 p.m.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 4, WISSAHICKON 0
Olivia Schlindwein had herself a varsity debut to remember.
The freshman pitcher turned in a dazzling 17-strikeout effort in the complete game shutout win, allowing just two hits and walking a pair.
“The story today was freshman Olivia Schlindwein’s 17-strikeout varsity debut,” Rock North coach Susan Yee said. “She was in complete control of the game from start to finish. Olivia was spinning the ball and making it dance all afternoon.”
The Indians put a pair of runs on the board in the first and added another run in the second to go on top 3-0. A single run in the sixth gave them their final margin of victory.
“After jumping out to an early lead in the first inning, our offense really stagnated and just wasn’t manufacturing runs,” Yee said. “Wissahickon did a great job each inning of shutting things down and not allowing runners to cross the plate and holding our offense at bay.
“I was particularly impressed by Wissy’s third baseman who snagged a few hard hit balls headed for the 5-6 hole to squash any potential rally we looked to be starting. We stranded eight runners in scoring position over the course of seven innings, so improving on that will be a big focus moving forward as we prepare to enter league play.”
Chelsea Seiler was 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Indians’ attack. Ellie Bonn was 1-for-1 with an RBI and run scored while Schlindwein was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Sierra Klein was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Molly Sheehy and Zoe Hornstein both drew two free passes.
Six different Rock North players combined for eight stolen bases, and seven players combined for the team’s eight hits.
“Overall, for being as young as we are, I thought our girls did a nice job doing what they needed to do to secure a W on their opening day,” Yee said. “You can never say it was a pretty win when you strand eight runners in scoring position, but they did what they had to do to finish on the right side of the scoreboard, so kudos to them for that. We had eight freshmen play a role in today’s win – none more than Olivia’s 17 K performance over a team that scored 13 runs in their season opener, so we are optimistic for the growth of this group as we continue to learn and address the things we know we can do better each day.”
Council Rock North (1-0) will host Harry S Truman in Tuesday’s SOL opener. Wissahickon (1-1) will host Central Bucks West in a non-league game Wednesday.

PENNSBURY 11, CONWELL-EGAN 6
The Falcons came out with their bats blazing, scoring six runs in the first inning on their way to the win in Tuesday’s non-league opener.
Presley Foote’s three-run triple to right field highlighted a big inning that also included singles by Liv Czerniak, Laney Freiband, Taylor Askey and Anna Evanchik. A miscue also resulted in a run in the six-run first.
The Falcons added a single run in the second before the Eagles scored three in the third to make it a 7-3 game. In Pennsbury’s three-run sixth, Sammy Raub led off the inning with a triple and scored on an error. Evanchik had an RBI double in the inning.
For the game, the Falcons had 15 hits. Raub was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Czerniak was 2-for-5, Freiband was 2-for-4 with two runs, Evanchik was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Foote was 2-for-4 with a triple. Hannah DeFinis was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and reached base on all four trips to the plate.
Freiband notched the complete game win, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned). She struck out seven and walked four – three were intentional walks to the dangerous Katie Brennan.
“She’s the best hitter we see,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “She just flat out hits. We pitched to her in the first inning because she bats three, and there were two
outs. She grounded out to shortstop. Every other time she came up there were runners on base, so we weren’t about to pitch to her.”
For the Eagles, Molly Milewski led the way with a 3-for-4 effort. Cecilia McBeth was 2-for-4 and freshman Angelina Pandolfi was 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored and an RBI.
“She made a great play at second base, she hit a home run, she had a walk – she’s going to be exciting for them,” McSherry said of Pandolfi.
Pennsbury (1-0) will host Hatboro-Horsham in a non-league game on Thursday.

NORRISTOWN 7, UPPER MORELAND 6
The visiting Golden Bears staged a late-game comeback, rallying to knot the score, but the Eagles came back to eke out the win.
“The final score wasn’t in our favor, but I could not be prouder of our team,” UM coach Melanie Martino said. “They battled every minute of the game and never gave up. We were down 4-6 going into the top of the sixth and tied it up 6-6. They had a ball fall in the right spot to win the game.”
Despite the outcome, the UM coach liked a lot of the things she saw in Tuesday’s opener.
“I was so pleased with our defense today – they all did so well, and they came up big when we needed them to,” Martino said. “Natalie Walton, Devyn Kniese, Kaylee Brown, and Alyssa Wiley each collected hits to ignite our lineup.
“We are looking forward to building on today’s lineup as we head to New Hope Solebury for our first league game.”
Upper Moreland (0-1) will travel to New Hope-Solebury for its SOL opener on Wednesday.
WILLIAM PENN CHARTER 8, ABINGTON 7
The Ghosts lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday.
They found themselves on the short end of a 7-2 score heading into the seventh inning, they staged a gutsy comeback to knot the score only to see Penn Charter earn the walk-off win in the bottom of the inning on a bases-loaded walk.
In the top of the seventh, Natalie Broskley and Mackenzie Feeney drew back-to-back walks to open the inning, and both scored when Leanna Schenk roped a triple to right field. Schenk scored on Lauren Everitt’s sacrifice fly to center to make it a 7-5 game. Hailey Hernandez singled to right, and with two outs, Bella Roma singled to put the tying run aboard. Liz Hippel delivered a clutch RBI single to center field, and Ella O’Rourke followed with a hard single to right, plating the equalizer.
Earlier in the game, the Ghosts took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second only to see Penn Charter answer with six in the bottom of the inning. In the fifth, the Ghosts got one of those back when Schenk hit her first of two triples in the game – this one to left field – and scored on Everitt’s groundout. Penn Charter scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and took that 7-2 lead into the seventh.
Schenk had a huge day at plate, finishing the game 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored. O’Rourke was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hernandez was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
