SOL Patriot Division
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 10, PENNSBURY 0 (6 innings)
The Indians -sparked by the glittering shutout performance in the circle by sophomore Mia Kiskurno – earned a mercy rule win over the visiting Falcons in a contest pitting a pair of teams that figure to be in the hunt for the division crown.
In the end, the play that everyone was talking was an apparent grand slam home run by Rock North’s Maddy Reinhardt in the third inning.
“One of my sophomores, Maddy Reinhardt, came up with the bases loaded, two outs,” Rock North coach John Engelhardt said. “She wears number seven, but on the lineup card, it said she was 27.
“I kept saying it was a correctable error – it’s the same kid that’s on the lineup card. Well, the umpire decided to say, ‘The runner’s out, but the three runs count,’ so it doesn’t make sense. I didn’t have a rule book, but I know for a fact it’s a correctable error. It was the kid that’s supposed to be there.”
The three runs (instead of four) put the Indians on top 5-0 after three innings. If there was any
doubt about the outcome, those doubts were put to rest when Rock North plated four runs in the fourth inning to go on top 9-0. Highlights of the inning included a two-run single by Zoe Hornstein as well as a home run by Alison Bodick.
By the numbers: Council Rock North: Mia Kiskurno (W) (6.0 IP, 5H, 0R, 2BB, 6K)
–The game: “It was a total team effort. Great energy. Everyone played a role, especially our leadoff hitter Kayla Ripper, who’s bunting and stealing bases just like Zoe Hornstein. We have kids doing the little things you need to do to win.
“We scored 47 runs in four games, so we’re putting some runs up.”
–Kiskurno clutch in the circle: “We played clean defense. Twice Pennsbury had runners on second and third with less than two outs, and Mia got us out of those situations. It was good defense, but she had Pennsbury all over the place where they weren’t able to barrel the ball and hit her hard. She really hit her location, and when the going got tough, she stepped up. I’m really proud of her because she’s as advertised. It was interesting to see. Here is a team that is loaded with talent, and she rose to the occasion, so I couldn’t be more proud.”
Up next: Council Rock North will host Bensalem on Thursday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 11, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Head coach Scott Molle didn’t hesitate to highlight the tone-setter of the day—sophomore pitcher Natalie Neubauer.
“Natalie was outstanding,” Molle said. “To get her first career varsity win in that fashion—a no-hitter with nine strikeouts—is really special. I couldn’t be more proud of her effort. She had great control and commanded the game from start to finish.”
Neubauer kept Truman hitters off balance all game, allowing no hits while striking out nine and walking just two across five innings.
Mickey Young’s two-run home run highlighted a seven-run second inning.
By the numbers: Council Rock South: Mickey DeYoung (2-for-3, HR, 2RBIs, 2R), Avery Ochs (2-for-3, 2B, 2RBIs, 1R), Sophia Salamon (2B)
Natalie Neubert (W), (5.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 9K)
Council Rock South coach Scott Molle:
–The game: “We didn’t play our best game last time out, but today we found our stride. I’m really proud of how the girls responded. That says a lot about their mindset and the direction we’re heading.”
–DeYoung delivers: ““Offensively, we were fueled by a breakout performance from junior Mickey DeYoung. The second baseman delivered two hits, drove in two runs, scored twice, and launched her first career varsity home run.
Mickey had a huge day. She’s been part of the program the last two years and didn’t always get a lot of opportunities. This year she earned that starting spot, and today you saw why. She was patient, had quality at-bats, and played an outstanding game overall.”
–More props: “Freshman Avery Och’s been a great addition for us. She stepped up in big spots today and really came through.
At the top of the lineup, sophomore Jenna Pesapane helped set the tone, scoring two runs and consistently putting pressure on the defense.
Up next: Council Rock South will travel to Neshaminy on Thursday, and Harry S Truman will be on the road for a non-league crossover at Abington on Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2, UPPER DUBLIN 0
The SOL opener between a pair of teams with title aspiration did not disappoint.
A trio of PW pitchers – Liv Brodzinski, Emma Keely and Lana DeLucca – combined for a shutout, and Anna Powell delivered the game’s big blow in the top of the sixth.
Zoe Robinson led off the inning with a single and then beat the throw to second on Joslyn Perez’s bunt. Both runners scored when Powel laced a two-out double to left field.

Upper Dublin: Molly Reilly (2-for-3), Kyla Garrison (7.0 IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 11K)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez:
–The game: “We knew coming into this game, that it would be a really tough way to start league play, and I’m proud of our girls for not giving up in a hard fought pitcher’s battle.
“Our three pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout, and Anna Powel had a huge double to score Zoey Robinson and Joslyn Perez after they both found a way on in the sixth.
“We are currently down a pitcher and have three games in a row this week. So, I knew we’d have all hands on deck for today. Each did a great job of moving the ball around and the defense played really well behind them.
“We’ve been battling vs Kyla for four years now, but that doesn’t make her any easier to face. She seems to get better every time we face her and hats off to her for a phenomenal performance in the circle.”
–Unsung hero: “I want to give a huge shoutout to catcher Gia Bono who threw a perfect pick-off to get a runner out at 3B in the bottom of the seventh inning with UD rallying.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh will host Methacton in a non-league game Wednesday.
