QUAKERTOWN 6, SOUDERTON 5
Coach Rich Scott isn’t sure when Quakertown last defeated Souderton on the softball diamond, but he knows it hasn’t been during his six-year tenure at the helm.
The Panthers – who were without senior standout Spenser Gray (injury) – brought a welcome end to their losing streak, but the Indians didn’t go down quietly, scoring five runs over the last two innings.
“They have some bats in their lineup, and I told our girls – they don’t give up,” Scott said. “They’re going to fight to the end.
“Overall, it was a team win. Everyone contributed. We’re hitting the ball, we’re fielding the ball – yes, we’re making mistakes here and there, but overall, we’re doing pretty darn good.
“Alyssa (Wilkinson) is doing a good job in the circle. I look at the stats at the end of each game, and she’s always around 90-95 pitches, and the other pitcher is always over a hundred.”
The Panthers scored a single run in the first and another one in the fifth, but the Indians erased that with two runs in the top of the sixth. Unfazed, the Panthers scored four in the bottom of the inning.
Nikki Vanelli doubled to right field to lead off the frame, and when Alex Scheeler retired the next two batters she faced on groundouts, it looked like the Indians might escaped unscathed, but an error on Emma McLaughlin’s grounder to short allowed Vanelli to score the go-ahead run and opened the floodgates. After McLaughlin stole second, Lauren Beal was hit by a pitch to put a pair on board. Madison Moyer’s double to right plated a run, and Megan Johnson’s single to right sent a pair of runs across. The Panthers took a 6-2 lead into the seventh inning.
They needed every one of those runs.
Savannah Bostwick, Missy Wiley and Angie Carty collected back-to-back-to-back singles to open the seventh, and the Indians were in business, plating three runs before Alyssa Wilkinson slammed the door on the rally with a strikeout to close out the game.
“It’s early, but it’s a big win because every league game is important because everyone is pretty much equal,” Scott said. “Each game can go down to the last inning or two, so each win is big.”
McLaughlin and Johnson both had a pair of hits to lead the Panthers’ nine-hit attack while Beal added a double.
Bostwick was 3-for-4 to lead the Indians while Wiley and Dayna Shelly (double) were both 2-for-4.
Wilkinson earned the win, allowing 10 hits while fanning four and walking one. For the Indians, Scheeler gave up nine hits but just one earned run, fanning five and walking three.
Quakertown (4-1, 1-1 SOL) will be on the road at Hatboro-Horsham on Tuesday, and Souderton (1-2 SOL) will host Pennridge on Tuesday.

Hatboro-Horsham 1, Central Bucks East 0
By Kyle Morhardt for Suburbanonesports.com
After Thursday’s game was pushed back a day due to rain, Central Bucks East hosted the Hatboro-Horsham Hatters in an important league game for both sides. The Hatters were coming off a tough home loss to another Central Bucks foe in CB South and looked to bounce back and claim their first league win of the season. The Patriots were coming off a big win over defending conference champion North Penn and looked to continue their good form into this game.
The game was decided by one hit and that was Taylor Scuibba’s in the top of the fifth. Scuibba, batting for the first time this season, hit a deep fly ball over the heads of the outfielders and into the fenceless grass of CB East’s field. Scuibba rounded all the bases to score an inside the park homerun but, in the process, injured her foot and was forced to exit the contest.
Freshman pitcher Logan Cummings stepped into the circle for the Hatters and closed out the rest of the game without giving up a hit and striking out three. In four innings of work, Scuibba allowed just one hit while striking out two and walking none.
Central Bucks East split pitching time today between Theresa Haug and Kayla Ventura. Haug allowed just two hits in four innings, and Ventura, who finished the game with four strikeouts of her own, gave up just one hit – Scuibba’s home run.
The Hatters were led defensively by Deanna Moyer and McKayla Fidele.
Hatboro-Horsham (5-2, 1-2 SOL) will host Quakertown on Tuesday, and Central Bucks East (3-1, 1-1) will travel to Central Bucks South in its next league event Tuesday.

Non-League
UPPER MERION 8, BENSALEM 0
Olivia Sblorlini tossed a two-hit shutout and also had a pair of hits and RBIs in a standout effort, leading the Vikings to the impressive non-league win.
“The kids really played well today,” UM coach John Whitney said. “I know Bensalem has been really hitting the ball, but Liv pitched a great game. We played very good defensively.”
The Vikings scored all the runs Sblorlini would need with one run in the first, but for good measure, they scored four more in the second with an impressive two-out rally that began with nobody on base.
Highlights of the inning included a two-out, two-run double by Riley Kontra. The Vikings added a single run in the fourth and two more in the sixth for the 8-0 final.
Dez Kandy had a big day at the plate, collecting a pair of triples and three RBIs. Bridget Valeri – a welcome addition to the Vikings’ lineup – also contributed a pair of hits to UM’s 11-hit attack.
“She’s been a nice surprise,” Whitney said of his senior transfer.
The convincing win over the Owls closed out a week that began with a 17-7 loss to Methacton and was followed with a 4-1 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh.
“After the Methacton game, the kids got together, and even after the PW game – we beat PW, but we didn’t play well,” Whitney said. “The kids got together and had a players only meeting.
“I think that was good for the team. The captains got the kids together and kind of righted the ship. We won (against PW), but it wasn’t the way we need to win. Today they were focused – they came out, and Riley Kontra started the game off with a nice diving catch in left field to kind of set the tone. From there on, the kids were focused. They played really well, so I was really happy.”
Upper Merion (3-1, 2-0 SOL) will be on the road at Wissahickon on Tuesday, and Bensalem (3-3, 1-2) will host Abington on Tuesday.

PENNRIDGE 7, HARRY S TRUMAN 5
The Rams opened up a 5-0 and held on for the non-league road win.
A two-run single by Meghan Johnson spotted the Lady Rams a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Rams scored a single run in the fourth and then added a pair in the fifth. Sam Harty singled to lead off the inning, and she scored on Johnson’s second RBI single of the game. Johnson scored on a Tiger miscue.
The Tigers plated a pair in the bottom of the inning to make it a 5-2 game. Both teams scored two runs in the sixth, and the Tigers scored one in the seventh but would get no closer.
Johnson’s 2-for-4 effort, which included three RBIs, led the Rams. Harty was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Krista Yerk added an RBI, and Kiley Watson had a double.
Mary Cairns had a pair of RBIs to lead the Tigers.
Meghan Bauer earned the complete game win in the circle for the Rams, allowing six hits and three earned runs. She struck out six and walked two.

Bri Battavio – who earned the win in the circle – closed it out by throwing a scoreless seventh, and the come-from-behind win was in the books for the Maidens, who saw the Fords jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Bou finished the game 2-for-3 while Katie Beer was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
