COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, NESHAMINY 1
The Golden Hawks won a come-from-behind thriller, rallying to knot the score 1-1 in the sixth and winning in the bottom of the seventh when Julia Scannapieco laid down a perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt that plated Paige Brady, who singled to lead off the inning.
Lexi Waring notched the complete game win, scattering four hits and allowing one run (unearned) while striking out seven and walking three.
By the numbers: Council Rock South: Kelly Delise (2-for-3, 2B), Jenna Pesapane (1-for-2, 2B, R), Lexi Waring (1-for-3, 2B, RBI)
Lexi Waring (7.0 IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB 7K)
Neshaminy: Kendall McCafferty (1-for-3, RBI)
Key innings: Top of fourth: Addie Pennisi and Zahmira Coppola-Miller drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Both advanced on a passed ball. A single by McCafferty plated Coppola-Miller. (0-1)
Bottom of the sixth: Pesapane hit a one-out double, and she scored when Lexi Waring doubled to left field. (1-1)
Bottom of seventh: Paige Brady led off with a single, and Veronica Houk walked. Both advanced on a passed ball, and Brady scored on Julia Scannapieco’s suicide squeeze, giving the Golden Hawks the walk-off win. (2-1)
Council Rock South coach Scott Molle: “It was incredible. The girls just dug down deep. We preach – this game is full of failures. You fail more than you succeed in this game, but it’s all about what you do after that that’s going to determine the outcome of the game. The girls were struggling at the beginning, but they dug deep, and they came out and got those runs in the last two innings to secure their first league win. It was such a great scene and such a great game to be a part of.”
–The game: “We were losing 1-0 in the fourth. The first three innings we weren’t really doing too well at the plate, but the girls adjusted really well to get back on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
–The seventh: “In the seventh inning, Paige Brady got an infield single to start the inning off. Our next girl up – Veronica Houk – walked, so we had first and second. On a ball in the dirt right in front of the catcher, the girls were able to advance. They were really aggressive on the bases. Our next girl struck out, and then my leadoff batter, Julia Scannapieco, came up – she really is our power hitter too. We let the first pitch go by on a take just to see what the defense did. The next pitch Julia lays down a perfect suicide squeeze play, and Paige Brady scored in a walk-off win.”
–Déjà vu: “It’s funny because the same thing happened last year. We were losing to Neshaminy 6-0 at home and scored seven runs in the last inning, and the one to score the winning run was Paige Brady, and she did it again.”
–Waring bounces back: “Lexi had a great comeback game after her last outing. She didn’t have a good game in that game we played against CB South (a 13-9 loss), but she came out and scattered four hits and no earned runs. She had seven strikeouts. It was just great to see her get back to the pitcher she is. She did that the first two games of the year – she pitched very well.”
–Props: “Jenna Pesapane started the sixth inning with a double – a line shot to left field and scored the tying. She’s so good, and she got us going and scored the tying run. She was great. Kelly Delise had two hits too.”
Up next: Council Rock South (3-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Harry S Truman Thursday, and Neshaminy (1-3, 0-1) will host Council Rock North on Thursday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 15, BENSALEM 2 (5 innings)
The Indians’ bats remained alive, and on the heels of a 20-12 win over Conestoga, Rock North pounded out 14 hits on their way to the abbreviated mercy rule win Tuesday.
They led 3-1 after one inning and then put six runs on the board in the second to go on top 9-2 after two innings. They never looked back.
Kayla Ripper led the potent offense out of the leadoff spot with a perfect 4-for-4 day and four runs scored.
Olivia Schlindwein and Lucy Mills combined for the three-hitter in the circle.
By the numbers: Kayla Ripper (4-for-4, 2RBI, 4R), Olivia Schlindwein (2-for-4, RBI, R), Chelsea Seiler (2-for-3, 2RBI, 1R), Sierra Klein (2-for-2, 3RBI, 1R)
Olivia Schlindwein (W) (3.0 IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 1K), Lucy Mills (2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K)
Key innings: Top of first: The Indians loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first, thanks to back-to-back singles by Ripper and Schlindwein and a walk to Seiler. Klein was hit by a pitch (RBI), and another run scored on a Zoe Hardy’s groundout. Allison Bodick delivered a sacrifice fly. (3-0)
Bottom of first: Gina Oliverio led off the inning with a triple and scored on Dana Oliverio’s groundout. (3-1)
Top of second: A six-run second all but put the game out of reach and featured singles by Ripper (RBI), Klein (RBI) and Payton Helsman (2 RBI). Emily Dziekan doubled home a run. (9-1).
Council Rock North coach Susan Yee: “The girls had another good day at the plate today. It all starts with mindset, and they have done a great job with coming to the plate with a good approach in each at bat recently.
“I couldn’t be happier with the team approach they are all taking. Everybody is cheering for one another, they are helping one another to succeed. Although we only have one senior, we have a lot of experience on our varsity this year, and the older girls have been great with helping the younger ones acclimate and succeed. We have some really tough games coming up, so it is important that the girls continue to have this focused mindset and team first mentality.
“Give credit to Bensalem, they are young, and they are learning and are going to get better as the season goes on. (Ashlyn) Merz and (Adrianna) Vargas have really developed a ton over the past few years, and I have no doubt they are leading the younger girls in the right direction over there.”
Up next: Council Rock North (4-1, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Neshaminy on Thursday, and Bensalem (1-4, 0-1) will travel to Pennsbury on Thursday.

NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2
Brandi Groarke was slated to anchor the Knights’ infield at shortstop. Instead, the junior has found herself in the circle in each of the Knights’ last three games.
On Tuesday, Groarke took a no-hitter into the seventh inning when the Bucks’ staged a one-out rally and pulled to within one when Ana Glemser lined a two-run home run to center.
Groarke calmly retired the next two batters she faced – striking out the second to put an exclamation point on the road win.
“it was a great game – we had 11 hits and let a lot of runners on base,” NP coach Rick Torresani said. “All in all, it was another needed win that these kids are starting to believe in themselves, which is great.”
By the numbers: North Penn: Cailin Halfpenny (3-for-4), Gabby Battavio (1-for-2, 2B)
Brandi Groarke (7.0 IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 13K).
Central Bucks West: Ana Glemser (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs, 1R)
By the inning: Top of fourth: With two outs, Battavio singled, stole second scored on a single by Gianna Howard, scoring on the throw.(2-0)
Top of seventh: With two outs, Tallie Smink singled and advanced to second on single by Mady Archer. Groarke delivered a two-out RBI single to plate a run that turned out to be the game-winner. (3-0)
Bottom of seventh: Katherine James broke up Goarke’s no-hitter with a leadoff single, and Ana Glemser following with a two-run blast to center field. (3-2)
North Penn coach Rick Torresani:
–Groarke in command: “She was awesome. In defense of Brandi and her pitching for the first couple games, I didn’t have her prepared.
“Usually, we start in January with the pitchers, and she’s our shortstop, so she was getting ground balls, and she wasn’t pitching except going occasionally to her pitching coach. I didn’t prepare her to get ready for the season, thinking my number one was going to pitch.
“Now, she’s starting to get in the groove. We still have a lot of work to get through with her, but she’s starting to get stronger, she’s hitting her spots. I’m just so proud of her and the team behind her.”
–Props: “Cailin Halfpenny was 3-for-4, and Gabby Battavio was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk.”
Central Bucks West coach Mike Daher: “(We) got an outstanding game from Ana Glemser in the circle and at the plate. Ana pitched all seven innings, striking out six batters, walking one and giving up eleven hits. Even though 12 batters reached base for the North Penn Knights, only three went on to score. Ana Glemser also contributed one of the two hits for the Bucks, which was a two-run homer into left center field in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ana plated Katherine James on the homer, James reached base on an infield single to lead off the seventh inning for West.”

SOUDERTON 7, PENNRIDGE 2
The Indians broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run uprising in the fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Leah Derstine.
Skyler Byrnes earned the complete game win for the Indians in their SOL opener, allowing just three hits while striking out 10.
Averi Dockery allowed five hits and no earned runs while striking out 12 and walking one.
By the numbers: Souderton: Kathryn Jones (2-for-4, 1R)
Skyler Byrnes (W) (7.0 IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 10K)
Pennridge: Destiny Novashinski (1-for-1, 2B, 1R)
Averi Dockery (L) (7.0 IP, 5H, 7R, 0ER, 1BB, 12K)
Key innings: Top of the third: Kendal Nelson led off with a single, and Megan Borro was safe on a two-base error that allowed Nelson to score. Kathryn Jones delivered a two-out RBI single. (2-0)
Bottom of third: Payton Keiser delivered a two-out hit that plated a run. (2-1)

Top of fifth: The Indians benefitted from three Pennridge miscues as well as singles by Jones and Megan Borro (2 RBIs). (7-2)
Souderton coach Tyler Bui on the game: “We faced our second potential all-state pitcher in three games. We knew runs would be at a premium today with Averi Dockery on the mound for Pennridge. Averi was her typical superb self, throwing her rise ball with velocity and mixing in her incredible change. She doesn’t allow hitters to get comfortable at the plate. I was proud of our girls for giving us quality at-bats up and down the lineup. They worked counts and took a lot of good swings throughout the game.
“It took until the third inning for us to get any results when we were able to plate two runs from a leadoff single and bunt that led to two runs. I knew holding on to this lead would be our best chance of winning the game. Pennridge fought back and tied the game, but our girls kept battling and found a way to keep scoring runs. I could not have been more proud of their determination and grit to finish out this game”
–Props: Skyler Byrnes did a tremendous job for us on the mound today. I was mostly proud of her for rebounding after Pennridge came back to tie the game and really dominated down the stretch.
“Our two freshmen, Kendal Nelson and Megan Borro, accounted for four of our runs with their hitting, bunting, and baserunning. These two girls have an incredible work-ethic, and their mental toughness is that of an upperclassman. I love their poise and competitive nature.”
Up next: Souderton (2-1, 1-0 SOL) will be on the road at Central Bucks West Thursday, and Pennridge (0-3, 0-1) will host Central Bucks East on Thursday.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 14, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 6
The Titans opened up a 7-0 lead and appeared to be cruising to the lopsided win when the Patriots used a six-run fourth to get back in the game. South blew the game open with a six-run sixth.
Leading the Titans’ 18-hit onslaught was Maura Fleming with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate while Ella Wheeler had three hits and three runs scored, and Maddie Motley had two hits, including a double, and five RBIs.
By the numbers: Central Bucks South: Ella Wheeler (3-for-5, SB 3, RBI, 3R), Maura Fleming (4-for-4, 2R), Maddie Motley (2-for-5, 2B, 5RBI, 2R), Cam Lee (2-for-4, RBI, 2R), Maddie McClintock (2-for-4, 2B, 2RBI), Maddie Jeffreys (2-for-3, R).
Alexis Griffin (W) (3.2 IP, 9H, 6R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K), Brooke Taylor (3.1 IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 3K)
Central Bucks East: Kaylee Masterson (2-for-5, R), Maggie Funston (2-for-4, 2B, 2RBI, R), Hailey Helmstetter (2-for-2, 2B, RBI), Elena Bhatt (2-for-4, 1R), Carly Franklin (1-for-4, 3B, RBI, 2R)
Key innings: Bottom of fourth: Trailing 7-0, the Patriots put six runs on the board. Bhatt led off with a single and scored when Franklin ripped a triple to center field. With one out, the Titans committed back-to-back errors, allowing a pair of runs to cross the plate. Masterson singled, Anna Devine laid down a sac bunt, and two runs score on Funston’s double to center. Helmstetter’s double to center plated Funston. (7-6)
Top of fifth: With one out, Wheeler and Fleming hit back-to-back singles. Wheeler scored on a groundout by Motley. (8-6)
Top of sixth: The Titans erupted for six runs to regain control of the game. Highlights of the inning included singles by Wheeler (RBI), Fleming, Cam Lee (RBI) and a bases-clearing double by Motley. (14-6)
CB South coach Matt McLaughlin: “Great game. CB East was 3-0 going into today, and they always play us tough. Our girls jumped out to 7-0 lead. We had one bad inning where we had a couple errors, and it turned into a six-run rally on CB East’s side, so kudos to them. They didn’t give up. It was 7-6. My pitcher at that point, Alexis Griffin, was dealing. She was doing her job like she always does. She’s super consistent, an incredible sophomore. I felt like we let her down defensively, so I made a change, just to switch it up. I personally think she could have finished the game, but defensively, we kind of let her down in that inning.
“Ultimately, we brought in our relief pitcher, Brooke Taylor, and she came in and got us out of the inning, and then we just went back on a scoring frenzy and ended up scoring seven more runs.”
–Less than their best: “We played a bad game and won. If we’d have been playing Council Rock South, we would have lost that game. Fortunately for us, we were able to hold on for the victory. I’m proud of the girls for not giving up. We punched them, got punched back and got back up and kept fighting. The energy was good, the culture was good. We got every single player in the game again, which is important. We had nine starters, and we figured out how to get 19 in the game, so it was a good one. I’m just glad we got out of that one with a victory. After the North Penn loss, this is a game we could have let get by us. The girls maintained their focus, did their jobs and finished.”
–Props: “Ella Wheeler – a hit machine, Maddie McClintock – a hit machine, Maddie Motley – a sophomore who had another five RBIs and a couple of huge hits, a bases-clearing double.
Maura Fleming, who’s a senior committed to Kutztown, is an absolutely incredible leader. Kutztown is so lucky to be getting her. She was 4-for-4 today, she just gets the game, and it’s fun watching her. She’s been hurt and is only hitting for us right now.
“It’s such a cool group of girls. From freshmen all the way through – just talent everywhere. I feel a little bit humbled to be their coach because I know there are a lot of coaches around here that know a lot more than me. I think the value I bring them is just being positive and inspire them. These girls are awesome – it’s fun to be around them. I’m pretty proud of this team and just love being a part of it and appreciate CB South for letting me do it.”

Abington coach Tina Hesdon on the game: “This is our first win over Hatboro-Horsham in years, which makes today’s victory even sweeter.
“What stood out most was our players’ ability to execute offensively today, especially the last few innings. Paige Holden turned a passed ball into two stolen bases, and we took some other risks they paid off. Our players stepped up today.”
–Props: “Danica Santiago did an excellent job as the starting pitcher, and Sam Wenhold came in and shut down Horsham. Both players also contributed offensively.
“We racked up nine hits from eight different batters, showing it was truly a team effort. A special shoutout to Sammi Clewell for driving in the winning run. She showed up when it mattered most and got the job done.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Bob Sadowl: “Molly Harrington pitched great for the Hatters and Isabella Karpovitch did excellent in relief.”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 14, QUAKERTOWN 4 (5 innings)
The Colonials erupted for 15 hits and 14 runs in Tuesday’s abbreviated SOL opener. PW put four runs on the board in each of the first three innings on their way to the win.
By the numbers: Plymouth Whitemarsh: Zoey Robinson (2-for-2, RBI, 2R), Jenna Yablon (2-for-4, 2B, 3R), Gia Bono (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI, 2R), Kalina Childers (2-for-2, HR, 3 RBI, 4R), Anna Powel (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs), Addie Antenucci (2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1R), Madison Moran (1-for-2, 2 RBI).
Madison Moran (3.0 IP, 3H, 3R, 0ER, 1BB, 4K), Rian Reed (2.0 IP, 2H. 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 4K)
Quakertown: Kira Jefferson (2-for-3, RBI.
Key innings: Bottom of first: Robinson and Yablon opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Bono hit a sac fly to plate a run, and then Childers hit an RBI single. With two outs, Moran hit a two-run single. (4-0).
Bottom of second: Maddie Swift hit a leadoff triple to center field and scored on a sac fly by Robinson. Yablon doubled, and Childers smashed a home run to center field. Powel singled, and Antenucci followed with an RBI double. (8-0)
Top of third: The Panthers benefitted from a pair of PW errors, a sac fly by Colleen Gallagher as well as back-to-back doubles by Leah Schwalm (RBI) and Ellie Hilton (RBI) (8-3)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez: “I was really happy to see our bats wake up after a tough patch early in the season. We were able to
string a few hits together in the first for an early lead. But the girls really got it going in the second and third innings with 9 hits (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR) and eight runs. Maddie Swift lead off the second inning with a big triple for the sophomore, but the highlight of the inning was senior Kalina Childers’ 2-run blast to left center field.
Senior pitchers Madison Moran, who earned the win, and Rian Reed combined for a great game in the circle. They scattered four hits over five innings with zero earned runs and eight Ks. I know Quakertown lost some big pieces from last year. But they are still a really solid team, with a potent offensive lineup.
“Our defensive struggles continued today with four errors leading to all four runs. We have a lot of new girls in new places defensively, so it has a lot to do with girls getting comfortable with each other and continuing to communicate with each other. We’ll keep working on that in practice and see improvement as the season continues.””

Offensive heroes included four players with three hits each – Madden Reilly, Kaitlyn Zacharia, Bella Fiore and Kate Brannnigan.

Lizzie Tambourino and Kate Brannigan both followed with singles, and Sophia Vitella drew a bases-loaded RBI walk to make the score 8-5.
Upper Dublin coach Heather Boyer: “(This) game was well played on both sides. Despite facing a deficit for most of the game, Upper Merion used two walks and timely hitting in the sixth inning to tie the score.
Both teams went scoreless in the seventh, despite each side having two runners on, and then Upper Dublin scored three runs in the top of the eighth to break the tie. In the bottom of the eighth, Upper Merion had a 2-out runner from a slap single, but then Garrison struck out the last batter to end the game.”
