District 1 3A final
#4 Strath Haven 3, #2 Springfield Twp 2
The Spartans found themselves playing from behind the 15th minute into Thursday’s title game, and that deficit grew to 2-0 after Strath Haven – fresh off an upset of top-seeded WC Rustin – converted a penalty kick one minute into the second half.
A goal by Adam DiBattista midway through the second half made it a 2-1 game, but Strath Haven answered with a goal two minutes later. A Matty Corcoran goal pulled the Spartans to within one, but they would get no closer.
Springfield Twp remains alive as the second seed from District 1 in the PIAA 3A State Tournament.
“We’ll learn from this game and be more prepared for our upcoming matchup against the 2-1 team Tuesday,” Spartans’ coach Riley Woron said.
Scoring Summary

Springfield Twp coach Riley Woron:
–The game: “Strath Haven played very solid in the back and made it tough for us to find a rhythm early in the game. They scored in the first half, and we let that rattle us a little bit. They then drew a PK in the beginning of the second half, and we just didn’t match their intensity and composure at the restart which falls on me failing to prepare ourselves better.
“I’m proud of how the boys fought back into the game to make it an exciting finish towards the end. Adam DiBattista (Joe Latawiec assist) and Matty Corcoran (Eden Ha assist) had goals that highlighted their hustle and rive throughout the game.”
Up next: Springfield Twp will return to action Tuesday in the opening Round of the PIAA 5A State Tournament. The Spartans will face the District 2 champion – the winner of Saturday’s game pitting #1Dallas against #2 Abington Heights.
