BASEBALL
Ricky Dennis (Central Bucks South) retired the first 19 East Carolina batters he faced and took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as Monmouth knocked off its second ranked opponent of the year, topping No. 17 East Carolina in Greenville, N.C., on Sunday afternoon. Dennis had a perfect game through six-and-a-third innings and carried a no-hitter into the eighth, eventually allowing just one hit through eight scoreless frames with six strikeouts. Justin Andrews (Neshaminy) worked a one-two-three ninth to secure the win. In Wednesday’s 12-4 win over VCU, Joe Molettiere (Pennridge) earned his first career win, allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out six in 4.2 innings of work.
Casey O’Donnell (Hatboro-Horsham) allowed seven hits and fanned six to earn his first win of the season in Philadelphia University’s 8-1 win over Nyack in game two of a doubleheader split Saturday. In last Saturday’s 3-2 win over Le Moyne in game one of a doubleheader split, O’Donnell scattered four hits, allowed two runs and fanned 11 in seven strong innings but did not factor into the decision. With his performance, O’Donnell had a league-leading 30 strikeouts.
Senior Jason Goldberg (Central Bucks East) went the distance to earn the win in Arcadia’s 2-1 win over Hood on Saturday. The East graduate allowed one unearned run on three hits over seven innings.
Junior right fielder Cory Capaldi (Souderton) contributed two hits and scored two runs in Pace University’s 9-3 win over Dowling on Saturday. In Friday’s 11-0 win over Dominican College, Capaldi doubled, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Concordia College, Capaldi was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Junior Randy Frankenfield (Wissahickon) retired the first 10 batters he faced and allowed just one hit in six innings to lead York College to an 8-0 win over St. Mary’s (Md.) on Wednesday. The Wissahickon graduate fanned six and walked two.
Junior center fielder Kyle Wenger (Souderton) was 4-for-7 with two doubles and two runs scored in Delaware Valley’s doubleheader split with FDU-Florham on Saturday.
Senior Steve Wright (Council Rock North) had a pair of hits in Gettysburg’s 13-2 win over Penn State York on Friday.
Sophomore Dan Morrin (Central Bucks East) earned his first win of the season on the mound in Moravian’s 4-3 win over The Catholic University of America in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. The East graduate allowed three runs on seven hits to go with seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings of action.
Freshman Anthony Cameron (North Penn), a defensive replacement at third base in the bottom of the seventh, laced a one-out single to right center in the top of the eighth for his first career hit in Elizabethtown’s 10-9 loss at Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday.
Penn State Abington sophomore Matt McDonough (Wissahickon) was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 13. McDonough pitched a complete game against Susquehanna University, recording 11 strikeouts and allowing zero earned runs in a 9-3 win. The Crusaders managed just six hits in nine innings against McDonough.
McDonough threw seven solid innings in Penn State Abington’s 6-1 loss to Elmira on Saturday, allowing just two earned runs. In Friday’s 10-5 loss to SUNY Canton, Max German (Council Rock North) recorded two hits and scored two runs.
Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored in Eastern University’s 10-2 win over Wilkes in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. In Wednesday’s 3-3 tie with Arcadia, Check was 3-for-3 with an RBI. He also threw one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Freshman Carter Usowski (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in Ursinus College’s 3-0 win over Pitt-Bradford in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. In the Bears’ 7-1 win in game two, freshman David Drea (Central Bucks South) overcame six walks to work into the fourth inning.
Senior Zachary Crim (Hatboro-Horsham) went the distance in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 win over Post University in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. The Hatboro-Horsham alum allowed six hits and one earned run while walking two and fanning 10. Patrick Campion (Norristown) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. In Chestnut Hill’s 4-1 win in game two, sophomore Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) earned the win, allowing four hits in seven innings while fanning nine. Robert Slagle III (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI while Brandon DeBona (William Tennent) was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. In Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep of Kutztown University, Campion went 5-for-7, which included a 4-for-4 effort with a triple, RBI and run scored in an 8-0 win in game one. In the Griffins’ 3-1 win in game two, DiBona, who finished the game 2-for-2, drove in the game’s first run, and Slagle also delivered a pinch single that plated a run.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Chris Hens (Hatboro-Horsham) was selected the CSAC Baseball Hitter of the Week. Hens was in a zone with the squad in Florida over spring break, helping the team go 4-0. He batted .615 (8-for-13) with five RBIs, four runs scored and two doubles. He posted a .769 slugging and .667 on-base percentage in four starts. Defensively, he was flawless in the field on 12 chances.
Hens drove in three runs in Gwynedd Mercy’s 7-4 win over Marywood in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. Jason Mulvey (Bensalem) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and David Tatoian (Pennridge) was 2-for-4 with one RBI. In Gwynedd’s 7-2 win in the nightcap, David Blount (Harry S Truman) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Jason Mulvey singled in Nick Mulvey (Bensalem) with the go-ahead run. Nick Mulvey was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. In Friday’s 7-5 win at Marywood, Hens had a two-out RBI double in the sixth, and Tatoian doubled and scored a pair of runs. In last Sunday’s 13-2 win over McDaniel, Blount was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Hens was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Redshirt junior Casey Saverio (Hatboro-Horsham) had a pair of doubles, including a two-run double in the first inning, in No. 15 East Stroudsburg’s 11-8 win over Bloomsburg in game one of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. Redshirt junior Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Marty Martens (Central Bucks West) threw 2.1 innings of relief. In ESU’s 9-0 win in game two, Crookham hit a two-run home run while Saverio was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Crookham finished the weekend 8-for-16 with two doubles, a home run, six RBIs and five runs scored while Saverio was 7-for-16 with two doubles, three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases. In Friday’s 15-5 win over Bloomsburg in game one of Friday’s doubleheader sweep, Crookham was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs and Saverio was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs. In Tuesday’s 9-1 win at the University of the Sciences, Saverio hit his fifth home run of the season.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored 16 points in Villanova’s 87-68 win over Iowa on Sunday in a second round NCAA Tournament game at Barclays Center. With the win, Villanova advances to a South Regional semifinal on Thursday in Lousiville, Ky., where the Wildcats will face No. 3 seed Miami. In Friday’s opening round 86-56 win over No. 15 seed UNC Asheville, Arcidiacono contributed 14 points and four assists.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Julian Hyden (Bensalem) was named to the D3hoops.com All-Atlantic Region second team. The Bensalem graduate, a first team All-Colonial States Athletic Conference selection, had a season for the ages, leading the team in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg), steals (44) and three-pointers made (53). He was second in blocks (27) and third on the squad in assists (67). He reached his career 1,000th point in the NCAA Tournament first round upset of Marietta on March 4.
Junior forward Josh Johnson (Norristown) had game-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season in Kutztown’s 85-64 loss to No. 5 West Liberty on Tuesday in the NCAA Sweet 16 and Atlantic Regional final. He was one of five players selected to the Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team. Redshirt freshman Anthony Lee (Abington) posted 15 points (5-of-8 field goals, 5-of-5 free throws) and four rebounds. Johnson goes into his senior season with career totals of 1,245 points (12th in KU history), 666 rebounds (sixth) and 94 blocks (seventh). In last Sunday’s 79-73 win over Mercyhurst in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Ryan Connolly (Souderton) recorded 13 points (5-of-6 FT) and four assists. Johnson, who was in foul trouble the majority of the first half, finished with five points, a team-high six rebounds and a game-high three blocked shots. Lee had 13 points to go with four rebounds and two steals.
Senior Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) notched his 10th double-double of the season with a game-high 15 rebounds to go with 14 points in Temple’s 72-70 overtime loss to Iowa in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
Skylar Scrivano (Central Bucks East) was a member of St. Joseph University’s basketball squad that captured the Atlantic 10 Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Central Bucks East graduate, who received Academic All-American recognition, was sidelined this year due to an injury.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
St. Joseph’s University senior Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) was named to the 2015-16 PhillyCollegeSports.com All-Philly third team. Leading St. Joe’s in scoring (11.4 ppg) and steals (36), Andrews posted a strong senior campaign, highlighted by Hawk Classic MVP honors. Twice named an All-Philly selection, Andrews delivered several key buckets for the Hawks in 2015-16, tallying a career-best 27 points in St. Joe’s win over Temple. She also hit game-winning shots in the final seconds at Lehigh and Richmond. The four-year letter winner finished her career 23rd all-time in career points with 1,042.
Senior Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) missed just one shot in 10 tries and finished with 18 points in Princeton’s 74-65 loss to West Virginia in an opening round NCAA Tournament game on Friday. She also added six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Wheatley was part of a senior class with a resume that includes two Ivy League championships, three NCAA tournament bids, four postseasons, the greatest season in Ivy League basketball history, the first NCAA tournament win in program history and more than 4,500 points.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Misericordia sophomore Chris Fleming (Upper Moreland) was named MAC Freedom Men’s Lacrosse
Offensive Player of he Week for the week ending March 13. The Upper Moreland graduate had a team-high 10 points on nine goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Cougars. He also totaled seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Fleming scored six goals with one assist in a win over Southwestern. The sophomore had three goals in an 11-10 overtime loss to Kean.
Fleming had three goals, one assist and four ground balls in Misericordia’s 10-9 win over Lycoming on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 25-7 win over Wesley, Fleming had three goals, two assists, six ground balls and one caused turnover.
Junior Danny Flanagan (Pennridge) scored a goal in Alvernia’s 14-3 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday.
Senior Chris Schneekloth (Central Bucks East) was dominant in the faceoff spot, winning 14 of the game’s 15 faceoffs and securing a game-high seven ground balls in Cabrini’s 7-4 loss at Stevenson on Friday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Cortnee Daley (Hatboro-Horsham) scored four goals to lead No. 6 Louisville to a 16-2 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon. In Wednesday’s 15-7 win at Canisius, Daley scored a single goal.
Kelsey Russell (Souderton) was credited with three ground balls in No. 13 Messiah College’s 16-3 win over Susquehanna University on Wednesday.
Senior Kelly Cross (Upper Dublin) scored a goal in No. 3 Syracuse’s 16-9 win at Harvard on Wednesday.
Senior defender Caroline Hagan (Hatboro-Horsham) caused four turnovers in St. Joseph’s 16-10 loss to Columbia in Saturday. The Hatboro-Horsham graduate moved into fourth all-time at SJU for career caused turnovers (64).
Liz Mower (Souderton) scored a pair of goals in Philadelphia University’s 16-3 loss to Mercy in a non-conference match Friday.
Sophomore midfielder Chessie Rahmer (Souderton) had two goals and three assists, all in the first half, in East Stroudsburg’s 18-10 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday. Junior attack Lauren Green (North Penn) also added a goal. In Tuesday’s 9-7 win at Bloomsburg, Green scored four goals and Rahmer added a single goal.
Freshman Kyra Shank (Souderton) scored a goal and Ally Frymoyer (Upper Merion) was credited with nine saves in goal in Shippensburg’s 12-7 loss to Kutztown on Tuesday in its PSAC opener.
Keystone College sophomore Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) was named the CSAC Player of the Week for the week ending March 13. The Cheltenham grad was named the conference’s player of the week after leading all players with 11 points on seven goals and four assists in Keystone’s triumph over the College of Saint Elizabeth. The sophomore midfielder added a game-high seven draw controls and tied for a game-best with four caused turnovers while picking up four ground balls in the victory.
The University of Pittsburgh’s club lacrosse team hosted a tournament this weekend that included club teams from the University of Delaware, Colorado State, the University of Florida and Penn State. In Pitt’s 11-8 win over Delaware, senior Anna Studenmund (Springfield) contributed three goals and an assist while Julia McKay (Hatboro-Horsham) added a hat trick, and Allison Hawkins (Cheltenham) had one goal. In Pitt’s 11-10 loss to Colorado State, Hawkins had one goal and three assists, and Studenmund had two goals and one assist. McKay had a pair of goals. In Pitt’s 20-10 win over Florida, Studenmund led the way with three goals and four assists while Hawkins added a hat trick and McKay had two goals and one assist. In a 12-11 loss to Penn State, Hawkins had three goals, McKay, two goals, and Studenmund, one goal.
SOFTBALL
Brown University co-captain Julia Schoenewald (Central Bucks East) earned Ivy League Player of the
Week honors for the week ending Feb. 28 and also the week ending March 6. For the week ending Feb. 28, the junior catcher/first baseman hit safely in all five games for an average of .583 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, six runs scored and four RBIs to lead Brown to a 4-1 opening weekend. She went 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, a homer and an RBI vs. Canisius and finished 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and two RBIs vs. Rider. For the week, she had a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage. For the week ending March 6, Schoenewald led the Bears to three more victories. She recorded a hit in all five games, including two hits in three of those contests. She led the league with a .600 batting average, 10 runs, 15 hits, five doubles and 28 total bases. After 10 games, Schoenewald, who batted only .186 last year, boasted a batting average of .600 and her OPS was 1.763. In 10 games, she had eight extra-base hits. In the 70 previous games of her Brown career, she had nine.
Schoenewald was 1-for-3 with an RBI in Browns 6-4 loss to Miami (Ohio) on the final day of the Charleston Invite on Sunday. In Saturday’s 2-1 win in eight innings over Central Connecticut State, Schoenewald reached base safely four times with a double and three walks as well as a run scored.
Senior Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) went 3-for-5 in Lehigh’s doubleheader split with Marist (7-1) and Northwestern (0-2) on its final day at the USF Spring Break Tournament in Clearwater. In Friday’s twinbill sweep of Rutgers (10-5) and Quinnipiac (4-0), Decker paced the offense, finishing the day 5-for-7 with two doubles and two RBIs in the two games. The CB South grad was 2-for-4 against Rutgers. Wednesday’s 8-6 win over Maine featured a battle of the Decker sisters – both Morgan and Maine freshman Maddie Decker (Central Bucks South) were 1-for-4 and both started at third base for their respective squads. Maddie is batting .389 after 14 games for Maine.
Senior Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) had a pair of hits in Robert Morris University’s 6-5 loss to UNC at Greensboro on Friday.
Dominique Pinto (Council Rock North) blasted a two-run home run in the University’s Connecticut’s 9-1 win over Eastern Michigan on the final day of the Charleston Invitational on Saturday. Pinto had a pair of hits in the win. In Friday’s 7-0 win over Brown, Pinto hit her sixth double of the season and contributed a pair of RBIs. In UConn’s 5-0 win over in-state rival Central Connecticut later in the day Friday, Pinto smashed a three-run home run, her first home run of the season.
Fordham junior Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) was named the Atlantic 10’s Pitcher of the Week for the week
ending March 13. The Neshaminy alum was named the MVP of the Fordham tournament after posting a record of 2-0 in the circle with an ERA of 0.70 over 10.0 innings pitched. She allowed only one earned run on two base hits while striking out 13. She was also a contributor on the offensive end, batting .300 (3-for-10) with a grand slam and six RBIs.
Quense threw one of her best games of the season with six innings of two-hit ball in Fordham’s 8-0 defeat of Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. She walked three and struck out four.
Junior Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) launched a two-out, two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Explorers to a 6-4 extra inning win over Sacred Heart in the UMBC Spring Classic on Saturday. Trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the frame, La Salle rallied for four runs. Earlier in the inning, Mackenzie Obert (Pennsbury) delivered an RBI single, and a bunt single by Angelina Refice (Central Bucks West) put runners on first and second with no outs. In Friday’s 6-4 win over Sacred Heart, Obert blasted a two-run home run. Junior Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) contributed an RBI single.
Alyssa Hughes (Pennridge) scattered six hits and struck out three in 4.1 shutout innings in Keystone College’s 9-0 win over Principia College on Thursday at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 9-0 five-inning win over Morrisville State College, Hughes tossed a two-hitter to earn the shutout win.
Michelle Holweger (North Penn) crushed a grand slam to left field in Lock Haven’s 8-0 win over East Stroudsburg in game two of a doubleheader sweep.

Gwynedd Mercy compiled a 6-2 record at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach. In Gwynedd’s 6-5 win over Mount Aloysius last Wednesday, Nikki Canfield (Souderton) delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie. Canfield, who was 2-for-4, finished with three RBIs. In Gwynedd’s 10-2 win over Hilbert, MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro-Horsham) tied a career high with three stolen bases. In Gwynedd’s 11-4 win over LaRoche in its season opener, freshman Becki Christoffers (North Penn) scored three runs, stole three bases and reached base on five plate appearances.
Junior Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) went 3-for-5 and scored the game-winning run to propel Widener University to a 3-2 win over Hood in the first game of a twinbill on Wednesday.

Heather Lutz (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in Millersville’s 2-0 win over Bloomsburg in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader split. In Bloomsburg’s 5-0 win in game two, Maria Spinosa (Hatboro-Horsham) doubled in the top of the third for the Marauders’ only hit of the game. In Thursday’s 6-4 win over Shepherd in game two of a doubleheader split, Lutz was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) hit two home runs to lead Bloomsburg to a 5-0 win over Millersville in game two of a doubleheader split on Saturday. The Pennridge alum hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and added a solo shot in the sixth inning. In Bloomsburg’s 9-5 win over Nyack in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Bridget Casey (Pennridge) delivered a bases-clearing double to drive in three runs. In the Huskies’ 9-4 win in game two, Mayhew was 2-for-4.

University of Buffalo sophomore Eve Kosten (North Penn) was named to the All-MAC Academic squad. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contents for their sport. Kosten, a business major, has a 3.581 GPA.

Sophomore Jequan Mitchell (Upper Merion) was part of Ursinus College’s 4x400m relay that finished eighth with a time of 3:25.84 at Washington and Lee’s Track and Field Carnival.
Chris Spadaro (Council Rock South) was part of the University of Pittsburgh’s winning 4x400m relay team at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday.
La Salle sophomore Fran Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished fifth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:00.36 at the Philadelphia College Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday. Joseph Lecony (North Penn) finished eighth with a time of 4:04.50 while sophomore Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) was 18th with a time of 4:09.59.
Kutztown senior Chris Varichione (Quakertown) posted a career-best throw in the hammer at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday. He finished in fourth place at 170-10 for a new PSAC mark and improved upon his existing sixth best mark in school history. Coming off his school record and PSAC title run this winter, Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) opened the outdoor season with two new PSAC marks in hurdle events. At 110m, he finished 16th in 15.19 and in the 400m, he crossed the line 14th in 56.34. Jhaloni Johnson (Springfield) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 200m with a time of 22.06 while Ron Smith (Neshaminy) also posted a PSAC qualifying time of 22.39.
East Stroudsburg senior Eric Conard (Souderton), the 2015 PSAC champion in the decathlon, opened his outdoor season at Charlotte, N.C., with a score of 5,764 points. He was second of five competitors and first of three from the PSAC.

Ursinus sophomore Jenna Kelly (Upper Merion) posted a time of 2:34.68 in the 800 at Washington and Lee’s Track and Field Carnival on Saturday.
Bloomsburg junior Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) qualified for PSACs with a winning time of 12:00.62 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational at Lynchburg College on Saturday.
Kutztown freshman Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) posted a PSAC qualifying time of 4:55.93 in the 1500m run at Charlotte’s 49er Classic on Friday.
East Stroudsburg freshman Victoria Matthews (Abington) finished first and posted a PSAC qualifier in the high jump (5-3 ¼) at Washington & Lee. Victoria Collins (Abington) finished in a tie for fifth with a jump of 5-1 ¼. Matthews was part of ESU’s second place 4x400m relay that posted a time of 4:02.70 and also included Leiana Dean (North Penn) and Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham). Stuetz finished second in the 400m hurdles (1:08.19) and fourth in the 100m hurdles (16.64). Dean finished eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 13.52.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
