CR South and CB West were winners in SOL girls’ soccer action on Tuesday.

The Golden Hawks took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a Keira Flanagan goal (Carley Hickey assist). The visiting Cougars knotted the score early in the second half on a rebound goal from an Emily Helmich saved penalty kick,
Sammy Jones turned a pass from Allie Jones into the game winner with 15 minutes remaining in regulation, propelling the Hawks to the hard fought win.
“I was pleased with their effort and resiliency,” coach Nick Heim said. “Downingtown East is always a good team, so to get tested in our first game is a good thing.
“I was proud of their effort to find a way to win.”
The Hawks’ first-year coach lauded the play of his back line of Carly Hickey, Emily Kavash, Callie Deola and Grace O’Kane.
“(They) did a great job of handling their three forwards and contributing on the offensive end,” Heim said.
Council Rock South (1-0) will be on the road at Abington for Wednesday’s SOL opener.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 0
Sophomore Tori Albrecht scored in the ninth minute with an assist from senior captain Allie Walsh. Nine minutes later, sophomore Ryan Fitzsimmons scored an insurance goal, also with a Walsh assist.
“It was a hard fought, physical game from both teams,” coach Chris Fehrle said. “Ryan put a lot of pressure on in the second half, especially in the final 10-15 minutes.
“CB West held on for the win, a good win against a good team and a game that tested (us) physically and mentally.”
The Bucks’ coach went on to credit several players.
“Allie Walsh was the best player on the field for CB West, if not the best player on the field period,” Fehrle said. “Allie made plays on the defensive end as well as the offensive end that helped CB West secure the victory.
“Sam Lubin and Tori Albrecht, along with Erin Fitzsimmons, fought hard in the midfield all game, which is what was needed to come out on top.”
Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Abaza earned her second win of the young season and her first shutout.
“She played a solid game,” Fehrle said.
Central Bucks West (2-0) will host William Tennent in Wednesday’ SOL opener.

LANSDALE CATHOLIC 5, ABINGTON 4
The Ghosts displayed remarkable resiliency, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 4-2 lead. The Crusaders, however, had an answer, reeling off three straight goals to steal the win.
Camryn Lexow scored a pair of goals to lead the Ghosts’ attack while Kailey Horton and Casey Touey each added a goal. Assists were registered by Touey, Lexow, Emily Quinn and Elizabeth Pohle.
Abington (1-1) will host Council Rock South in Wednesday’s SOL opener.

Miah Gomez connected for a hat trick, and Nicole Caster and Brianna Costa added single goals for the Lions, who opened up a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
UM goalie Jen Storbrauck had 13 saves, and coach Lisa Benvenuto credited center back Carly Wasson and midfielder Chloe Leiter for playing well in the back for the Bears.
Upper Moreland (1-1) will be on the road at Plymouth Whitemarsh for Wednesday’s SOL opener.
