BASEBALL
Wilkes University sophomore Matt Reinert (Souderton) received 2018 All-MAC Freedom honorable mention recognition as an outfielder. It was his first all-conference recognition. The sophomore was ninth among MAC Freedom players with a .370 batting average (37-for-100), fifth with 34 runs, sixth with a .483 on-base percentage and seventh with 12 stolen bases. He added 11 doubles, one home run and 21 RBIs.
Reinert was 2-for-4 in Wilkes University’s 6-3 loss to King’s College in the second game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Tournament. Wilkes finished its season 17-17 overall after entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed. In Friday’s opening round 16-3 loss to second-seed Misericordia, Reinert contributed an RBI double.
Freshman left fielder Josh Kim (Council Rock South) was on base twice with a hit and walk in Villanova’s 9-3 loss to Georgetown on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 12-4 win over Army West Point, Kim reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and two walks.
DeSales University freshman Ian Kacergis (Pennridge) was named MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year. Kacergis is the seventh Bulldog to earn Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman hurler posted a 5-3 record with a 2.77 ERA in 52 innings pitched. Kacergis has struck out 43 batters, and opponents are batting just .211 off him.
Nick Mulvey (Bensalem) was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and Dave Tatoian (Pennridge) had an RBI double in Gwynedd Mercy’s 12-8 win over Neumann University in game two of a doubleheader sweep in Friday’s regular season finale. In the Griffins’ 6-1 win in game one, Mulvey was 2-for-4 with a run and Shaughn Wright (Pennsbury) was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and two runs scored. In last Sunday’s 11-6 win over No. 24 Keystone, Tatoian and Wright hit back-to-back home runs. Tatoian finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs while Wright was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. In the Griffins’ 4-1 win at Cairn. Wright and Tatoian each had two hits. Evan Miller (Harry S Truman) had one RBI. In the Griffins’ 8-6 win over Cairn, Tatoian was 2-for-4 with a double. Jared Gorman (North Penn) entered in the fourth inning and threw four-plus innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first win of the season. He retired the side in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Kadar Namey (North Penn) singled, stole second and scored in Saint Joseph’s 8-1 win over NJIT on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 8-7 loss in extra innings to Fordham, Namey led off the ninth with this sixth home run of the year to tie the game. He was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Sophomore Shaun Stackhouse (Council Rock South) singled and stole second in Cabrini’s 7-5 win over Marywood on Saturday. He scored a key insurance run from second on a low throw to first with some heads-up base running. Saturday’s sweep propelled Cabrini into the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament in the program’s second year of existence.
Dylan Morrissette (Souderton) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Widener’s 13-12 loss in 10 innings to Hood in Friday’s MAC Commonwealth Championship game. In Thursday’s 17-4 win over top-seeded Alvernia, Morrissette had a pair of hits. In last Saturday’s doubleheader split to close the regular season, Morrissette had three hits, including a double. In last Friday’s 6-2 win over Hood, Morrissette had three hits.
Junior Colton Hooker (Upper Moreland) hit his second home run of the season in Bloomsburg’s 9-1 loss to Millersville in game one of a doubleheader sweep. In Tuesday’s 15-5 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Hooker had two hits while Cole Swiger (Upper Dublin) scored three runs. In last Saturday’s 10-7 loss to No. 21 West Chester in game two of a doubleheader split, Swiger was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, and Jake Reed (Quakertown) singled and drove in a run. In the Huskies’ 11-10 win over 11th-ranked Le Moyne, Swiger reached base on an infield single to drive home a run with one out in the bottom of the seventh, lifting the Huskies to the walk-off win. The UD graduate finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs.
West Chester junior Jared Melone (North Penn) was named PSAC East Player of the Week and also captured
ECAC Division II Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending April 23. The North Penn graduate went 12-for-24 (.500) with two doubles, two home runs, seven runs scored and 14 RBIs. In a 6-1 loss to Wilmington, Melone went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Against East Stroudsburg, Melone went 4-for-8 with six RBIs, two runs scored and a home run to help West Chester finish off the season sweep. Against Kutztown, he was 3-for-6 with a home run, double, six RBIs, two runs scored to help carry West Chester to a series opening split. In the final two games of the series against Kutztown, Melone went 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Through April 23, Melone was batting .492, which led the PSAC and all of NCAA Division II baseball.
Melone hit a two-run home run and was 3-for-5 with five RBIs to pace No. 22 West Chester in its 10-3 win over Mansfield in game two of a doubleheader sweep Saturday. In Friday’s 21-4 win over Mansfield, Melone had two hits – a double and home run – and two RBIs. Jon Fisher (Plymouth Whitemarsh) improved to 5-2 on the season after allowing four runs on four hits in 5.0 innings pitched. In the Golden Rams’ 17-5 win in game two Friday, Melone was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. In last Sunday’s 10-7 win over Bloomsburg in game two of a twinbill sweep, Melone was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs. In last Saturday’s 9-1 win over Bloomsburg in game one of a DH sweep, Fisher allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. In the Golden Rams’ 12-8 loss to No. 23 St. Thomas Aquinas, Melone collected a double and triple.
Ryan McCarty (Pennsbury) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in Penn State Abington’s 10-7 upset of No. 6 Rowan.
Monmouth University freshman Dan Klepchick (Central Bucks South) became the first pitcher to be named MAAC Rookie of the Week three times this season, earning the honor last Tuesday after tossing a complete game against Manhattan. Klepchick fired a complete game against Manhattan with eight strikeouts. He scattered five hits, allowing just one run and needed just 109 pitches to complete the game.
Klepchick tossed a shutout in Monmouth’s 5-0 win over Saint Peter’s on Saturday in game two of a doubleheader sweep. It was his second consecutive complete game, and his 12 strikeouts are the most in a game for a Hawk since May 7, 2016. Danny Long (Pennridge) extended his games reached base streak to 22. In Monmouth’s 22-10 win in game one, Ricky Dennis (Central Bucks South) earned his sixth win with seven strikeouts in seven innings. In Wednesday’s 11-5 loss at Lafayette, Long led off the game with a home run. It is the second time he has homered from the leadoff spot this season.
Brennan Snyder (Central Bucks West) had a pair of hits in Elizabethtown’s 10-2 win over Drew on Friday, a win that vaulted the Blue Jays into the top spot in the Landmark Conference. In Monday’s 14-4 rout of Messiah, Mike Christy (North Penn) had three hits and Nick Bein (Abington) belted a three-run home run. Bein’s homer was the knockout blow in the seventh inning and was his second career home run. Christy, in his second season with the Jays, is four hits away from 100 in his career after a triple and two singles on Monday. The junior left fielder has four straight multi-hit games during his five-game hitting streak. Christy’s batting average has gone up 43 points in this last four games and stands at a season-best .325. In last Sunday’s 11-7 win over Juniata, Christy had three hits. In last Saturday’s 8-2 win over Juniata in game one of a twinbill sweep, Christy was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. The North Penn graduate was 2-for-4 with an RBI in Elizabethtown’s 8-4 win in game two. In Elizabethtown’s 10-3 win over Scranton in game one of a doubleheader sweep, Christy delivered a two-run triple. In the Blue Jays’ 7-6 win in game two, Brennan tripled and drove in a run.
Arcadia University junior Nick Ponente (Council Rock South) received All-MAC Commonwealth second team honors. The CR South graduate posted a .302 batting average in his 37 games played with 32 hits, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored. This is his second all-conference recognition. He received honorable mention recognition in 2017.
Ponente had three hits, including a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored in Arcadia’s 25-12 win over Hood on Saturday to capture the MAC Commonwealth Championship. With the win, Arcadia earns a bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. In Friday’s 5-2 win over Widener, freshman Brett Moyer (Souderton) had a pinch hit RBI single. In Thursday’s 13-5 win over Hood, freshman Matt Ernst (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. In last Saturday’s 5-3 win over Stevenson in game one of a doubleheader split, Ernst was 2-for-2 with a run scored. In Arcadia’s 11-8 win over Stevenson last Friday, Ernst singled and drove in a pair, and Ponente was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
Jake Jones (Neshaminy) had a pair of hits in Eastern University’s 14-9 loss to Manhattanville College last weekend.
Anthony Rigous (Council Rock North) had a double and home run in IUP’s doubleheader split with West Liberty on Tuesday afternoon. In last Sunday’s 8-5 win over Seton Hill, Rigous was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. In IUP’s 4-2 win over Seton Hill last Friday, Rigous was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Junior Carter Usowski (Central Bucks East) homered for the fourth time this season and reached base on all five of his trips to the plate in Ursinus College’s 11-9 loss to Muhlenberg last Sunday. The CB East graduate went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and a walk. In the Bears’ 3-1 win over Washington College in game one of a DH split, Usowski was 3-for-5 with a double and run scored. In the Bears’ 13-10 loss to Washington College, Eric Gross (Central Bucks South) had two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, and Jerry Scavone (Neshaminy) had a pair of hits and a run scored.
Thomas Jefferson University senior Jake Goldberg (Pennsbury) was named the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 29. Goldberg picked up a win and a save last week in his three appearances on the mound. The senior earned a save in a 6-3 win at Wilmington with two strikeouts. Goldberg then pitched a complete game, a nine-inning shutout against Bloomfield with 11 strikeouts to get the win.
Goldberg allowed just four hits in a complete game win in Thomas Jefferson University’s 4-0 win over Bloomfield last Sunday. Timothy Brodhag (William Tennent) had an RBI single, In the Rams’ 6-3 win over Bloomfield in game two of the twinbill, Brodhag contributed an RBI double. In last Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Post, Brodhag had a pair of hits. In the Rams’ 6-3 win over Wilmington, Goldberg earned his second save, and Brodhag was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Mason Nadeau (North Penn) singled and scored in Penn State’s 13-1 win over Michigan State on Friday.
Sophomore Thomas Spratt (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 in Chestnut Hill’s 16-5 win over Post University in game one of a doubleheader split on Wednesday. Freshman Billy Bethel (Pennsbury) earned his sixth win of the season, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings. In last Friday’s 14-4 win over University of the Sciences, senior Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) earned the win, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two in six innings of work. In the Griffins’ 11-4 win over Goldey-Beacom, Bethel earned the complete game victory, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out nine.
David Brown (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a home run in his first collegiate at-bat in Kutztown’s 13-5 loss to Chestnut Hill.
MEN’S GOLF
Ursinus senior Max Schwartz (Central Bucks South) posted an overall total score of 257 (87-79-91) at the Centennial Conference championship. The South graduate shot a career-best 79 in the second round, posting birdies on the par-4 10th hole and par-5 13th.
Temple freshman Dawson Anders (Souderton), who was tied with teammate Gary McCabe as TU’s top golfer after one round, finished with a 233 to place 48th at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla.
La Salle freshman David Kim (Upper Dublin) shot a final round 74 and tied for 16th place individually at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships. Starting on the 10th, Kim finished his opening nine holes at one-under par, totaling six pars, two birdies and a bogey. The UD graduate, who shot three-over 39 over his second nine, tied for sixth overall in par-3 scoring over the 54-hole event by averaging 3.00 strokes over the 12 par-3 holes. On the second day of the tournament, Kim shot a 76, two better than his opening day total.
Millersville redshirt senior Sean Ebert (Central Bucks West) shot an 11-over 83 that tied for 28th at the 2018 Alvernia Spring Invitational.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Chris Fleming (Upper Moreland) scored the game-winning goal for his 200th career point as Misericordia clinched a MAC Freedom postseason berth with an 8-6 come-from-behind win at King’s. Fleming is one of the only three players in school history to reach 200 career points. The UM graduate gave Misericordia the lead for good with 2:28 to play. In last Saturday’s 17-5 win over FDU-Florham, Fleming had four goals, three assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. In Wednesday’s 15-5 win over King’s in a MAC Freedom semifinal, Fleming had two assists and led the team with seven ground balls. In Saturday’s title game, Fleming had five goals, one assist and three ground balls in Misericordia’s 17-14 loss to Eastern University.
Junior goaltender Riley White (Plymouth Whitemarsh) recorded five saves and two ground balls in Cabrini’s 17-7 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday to capture the program’s 18th consecutive CSAC title. The No. 8 Cavaliers improved to 16-2 on the season and will make their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance. In last Saturday’s 24-2 over Centenary University in a CSAC Tournament semifinal, White recorded four first-half saves to secure his 13th win of the campaign. In Cabrini’s 27-10 win over Immaculata to wrap up the program’s 18th consecutive undefeated league slate, White recorded four saves and also had six ground balls.
Princeton freshman Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) has done something only two Princeton men’s lacrosse
players have ever done. The record-setting sophomore earned his second straight first team All-Ivy League selection, this time unanimously by a vote of the league’s head coaches. Sowers leads Division I in both points per game and assists per game, and no player in the last 37 years in Division I lacrosse has averaged more points per game for a career than he currently is. He broke his own Princeton single-season scoring record with 83 points, one more than he had last year, and his 56 assists were also a Princeton single-season record. His 97 career assists are already fifth in program history.
Sowers was named one of 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award given each year to the outstanding male and outstanding female player in college lacrosse. The five finalists will be announced May 10. Sowers was earlier named to the USILA’s 17-member Player of the Year watchlist. Sowers is one of 13 players who is on both lists.
Sowers had two goals and two assists in Princeton’s 14-8 win over Cornell last Saturday.
Sean Fechter (Pennridge) had three goals and one assist and Kyle Fanelli (Pennridge) added a single goal in Eastern University’s 20-5 win over Manhattanville College in a MAC Freedom semifinal on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 17-14 win over Misericordia in the title game, Fechter connected for a goal. In Eastern’s 15-5 win over FDU Florham, Brett McDonald (Council Rock North) recorded three saves in goal to close out the game.
Saint Joseph’s redshirt freshman midfielder Nicholas Vernacchio (Upper Dublin) earned a spot on the Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team. The UD graduate appeared in 10 games with seven starts en route to six points (three goals, three assists). Vernacchio made four starts in five NEC appearances, joining a pair of veterans to round out the Hawks’ midfield unit. Vernacchio scored the game-winning goal with 26 seconds left in regulation to lead SJU to its first win over Drexel since 2000. The goal was the first of his collegiate career.
Vernacchio scored a goal with 1:42 remaining in No. 20 Saint Joseph’s 11-9 win over Sacred Heart in the Northeast Conference Championship semifinals on Thursday. In last Saturday’s 8-7 win over #18/20 Robert Morris, Vernacchio scored an unassisted goal.
Freshman Ian Vogt (Central Bucks South) scored the first two goals of his career in Ursinus College’s 20-7 win over Muhlenberg. Evan Scott (Upper Dublin) had a goal and two ground balls.
Gwynedd Mercy senior Sean Miller (Wissahickon) was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference second team. The Wissahickon grad was part of a defense that is tops in the CSAC and is ranked fourth in all of Division III in scoring defense (5.75 gpg) out of 239 ranked teams. In 11 of 12 games so far this season, the Griffins have allowed double-digit goals only once. Miller has 13 caused turnovers, which is second on the team.
Ryan Gartenmayer (Council Rock South) scored a goal in Gwynedd Mercy’s 17-7 loss to Cabrini in the championship game of the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 9-3 win over Marywood in a CSAC semifinal, sophomore Lucas Gray (Harry S Truman) scored a goal. For Gray, it was his first tally of the season. Jacob Snavely (Central Bucks South) had one assist. In the Griffins’ 15-0 win over Rosemont, Miller was part of a defensive unit that helped limit the Ravens to 13 shots on the night.
Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) won 9 of 13 faceoffs in Widener’s 7-4 loss to Albright.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Elizabethtown freshman Kate Ziegler (Pennridge) earned All-Landmark second team honors. The freshman midfielder racked up 40 goals, tied for second on the team. Ziegler ended up third in assists and was fourth in points. She became an instrumental piece of the attack as the season went on. With just 11 goals in the first seven games of 2018, Ziegler picked up the pace to finish out the year with 29 over her final nine games. She registered five goals and five assists for her season-high output of 10 points at Juniata on April 21. She closed out the season on a nine-game goal-scoring streak.
Ziegler scored a pair of goals in Elizabethtown’s 22-12 loss to 15th-ranked Catholic University last Saturday.
Saint Joseph’s freshman Sam McGee (Abington) earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. The Abington graduate tallied at least one point in all nine A-10 games, including five at VCU (4 g, 1a) and La Salle (4 g, 1a), three vs. St. Bonaventure and George Mason and two against Richmond. McGee also scored and added three caused turnovers at Davidson.
McGee scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead third-seeded Saint Joseph’s to a 14-9 win over sixth-seeded George Mason in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals on Thursday. Francesca Donato (Neshaminy) added a pair of goals.
Senior Kara Imes (North Penn) scored four goals and became Delaware Valley University’s all-time leader in that category in last Saturday’s 27-14 loss to Manhattanville College in the season finale for the Aggies. Imes entered the game with exactly 100 goals and needed two to break the program mark. She tied the record with 11:28 remaining in the first half. She broke the program record with 23:04 remaining for career goal number 102. She also had nine draw controls. In the Aggies’ 19-11 win over Wilkes, Imes scored her 100th career goal. She finished the game with three goals and one assist and 11 draw controls.
Keystone College senior Emily Hawkins (Cheltenham) received the Keystonian Award for academic excellence. Hawkins owns the distinction of being the first player in Keystone College women’s lacrosse history to score more than 200 points in a career. A three-time second team All-Colonials States Athletic Conference selection,
she is the Giants’ all-time leader in goals (151), assists (63) and total points (214). This past spring, she set a Keystone single-game record with six assists against Marywood University and followed it up four days later with six more against Gwynedd Mercy. She also established another single-game record with 12 points (nine goals, three assists) against Centenary University. Hawkins was instrumental in leading Keystone to back-to-back CSAC postseason tournament berths in 2017 and 2018.
Hawkins earned All-Colonial States Athletic Conference second team honors for the third consecutive years. She finished first on the team in assists (29) and points (69) and was second in goals (40). She accounted for at least five points in six of 11 games and has scored at least four goals five times, including a season-high seven-goal effort in a 20-0 win at Centenary. She set a Giant record for most assists in a game with six against Marywood and six against Gwynedd Mercy.
Hawkins had a goal and an assist in Keystone’s 19-10 loss to Neumann University in an opening round game of the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament last Saturday.
Riley Greenleaf (Springfield Township) scored three goals in No. 23 IUP’s 20-8 loss to eighth-ranked West Chester last Saturday. In IUP’s 12-11 win over Seton Hill, Greenleaf had a pair of goals
Penn State Abington senior defender Bridget Meade (Upper Moreland) wrapped up her college career with her selection to the NEAC second team. A captain, Meade anchored the defense with 29 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. This is her second all-conference selection.
Allison Felicetti (Upper Moreland) and Melissa Felicetti (Upper Moreland) both had three goals and one assist in Penn State Abington’s 19-10 win over Cazenovia last Saturday. Allison Felicetti also had four draw controls..
East Stroudsburg senior midfielder Chessie Rahmer (Souderton) was named to the All-PSAC first team for the second straight year. A returning IWLCA All-America third team from last year’s team, she is the seventh Warrior named two-time first team. Rahmer had 39 goals and six assists, including 22 goals in the last six games (and 13 in the last three games). She ranks tied for sixth at ESU in career goals (136) and 10th in points (164) entering the postseason. She also ranks second on the Warriors in caused turnovers (30) and draw controls (58) and third in ground balls (47) after ranking second in all three categories as a junior when she led ESU with 50 goals and 60 points.
Rahmer scored four goals in East Stroudsburg’s 15-12 loss to Mercyhurst in the PSAC semifinals on Friday. In last Saturday’s 17-7 win over No. 7 LIU Post, Rahmer scored four of her five goals in the second half in a game that saw ESU score eight of the game’s final nine goals. In ESU’s 17-5 win over Bloomsburg, Rahmer scored four goals.
Junior Amber Lambeth (Souderton) scored two goals in Temple’s 15-8 loss to No. 24 Georgetown in last Saturday’s season finale.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Victoria Braeunle (North Penn) was named the 2018 Colonial States Athletic
Conference Rookie of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-CSAC first team. As of April 25, Braeunle was first in the CSAC in ground balls (58), second in points (98) and caused turnovers (35) and third in goals (66), assists (32) and draw controls (103).
Braeunle notched a program record, but Gwynedd Mercy was knocked out of the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament with a 20-11 defeat at Immaculata in a first round game last Saturday. The North Penn grad, who earlier this season became the single-season point leader, became the first player in program history to reach 100 points in a season. The freshman totaled three goals and an assist to give her 102 points on the year. Goalie Nicole Wood (Souderton) faced 43 shots and recorded 10 saves. In Gwynedd’s 21-13 win at Purchase, Braeunle broke the program’s single-season scoring record as the rookie totaled seven goals and two assists. At 98 points, she surpassed the old mark of 95 set in 2009. Braeunle also owns the single-season assist mark with 32.
Senior Allison Fugate (Pennridge) scored a pair of goals and freshman KiKi Brasher (Abington) made nine saves in goal in Shippensburg’s 11-10 loss to Slippery Rock last Saturday. In the Raiders’ 21-7 loss to No. 22 Lock Haven, Fugate had two goals and an assist and achieved her 100th career point with 74 goals and 26 assists in her career. Junior Kyra Shank (Souderton) scored a goal for the sixth straight game. Brasher had six saves.
Thomas Jefferson University senior Samantha Ryder (Pennridge) was named to the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Tournament Team. Ryder led Jefferson with three goals in the team’s postseason contest – a 13-11 loss to No. 3 seed Chestnut Hill – and also had a game-high five draw controls.
West Chester junior Maggie Stella (Central Bucks East) was named to the All-PSAC first team. The junior transfer from Division I Robert Morris made her initial appearance on the all-league team. Stella registered 44 goals and 55 points to rank third on the team. She led the squad with 96 draw controls and has 29 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls.
Stella was named PSAC Co-Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 23. The CB East graduate recorded a total of 12 points, accounting for eight goals and four assists in a 2-0 week for the Golden Rams. Stella recorded a season-high seven points, thanks to three goals and four assists in No. 9 West Chester’s 21-6 victory over Bloomsburg. In the Golden Rams’ 17-7 win over No. 23 Lock Haven, Stella set a new single game season-high five goals on seven shots.
Stella was named the most valuable player of the PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament after the Rams earned a 17-12 win over Mercyhurst in Sunday’s championship game. Stella finished with three goals and one assist to go along with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. In Friday’s 16-6 win over Lock Haven in a PSAC semifinal, Stella scored a season-high six goals. She also had four ground balls and seven draw controls. Emily Schulze (North Penn) added a goal. In last Saturday’s 20-8 win over No. 23 IUP, Stella collected a hat trick and also had an assist.
SOFTBALL
Freshman Tara Baglivo (Quakertown) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 23. Baglivo went 6-for-10 (.600) at the plate with one RBI and one stolen base as the Bucknell Bison earned a three-game sweep at Colgate. The freshman finished the weekend with a .600 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. Through the date of the award, Baglivo was batting .371 (13-for-35) and was 6-for-7 on stolen-base attempts in 14 league games. She had at least one hit in each of the past four games.
Junior Katlynn Reiss (Bensalem) was 3-for-6 with an RBI in Cairn University’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Cedar Crest College on Monday. The Bensalem graduate finished second on the team with a .374 batting average (34-91). She also was second on the team with 24 RBIs.
Nikki Alden (William Tennent) was 2-for-3 with a home run, RBI and run scored in Villanova’s 9-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in five innings last Saturday. In the Wildcats’ doubleheader split with Rider, Alden had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
Arcadia junior Jackie Bilotti (North Penn) was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. The North Penn graduate hit .402 to lead the team and also leads the team with 49 hits, 27 runs scored, five triples and is tied for the team lead with 31 RBIs. She adds a .557 slugging percentage and a nearly perfect stolen base streak, going 18-of-19. Bilotti has reached base safely in 30 of the team’s 36 games. As the starting shortstop, she has a .975 fielding percentage while starting all 36 games.
Bilotti was 1-for-2 in Arcadia’s 3-0 loss to Messiah in Sunday’s MAC Commonwealth Championship game. In Saturday’s 8-0 win over Lebanon Valley, Bilotti was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored. Earlier in the day, Bilotti was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Arcadia’s 9-3 loss to Messiah.
Spenser Gray (Quakertown) was 2-for-2 with a double in UNC-Charlotte’s 7-0 win over Southern Miss on Saturday.
Freshman Maddie Bieber (Central Bucks South) singled in Moravian College’s 3-0 win over the University of Scranton on Saturday in the Landmark Conference Championship game. It is the program’s 16th conference title since 2000 and earned the Greyhounds an automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship tournament. In Moravian’s 7-0 win over The Catholic University on Friday, Bieber was 2-for-4.
Sara Keeny (William Tennent) and Cheyenne Jones (Harry S Truman) both had two hits and an RBI in Kutztown’s split with East Stroudsburg.
Freshman Devan Masciulli (Neshaminy) singled home a run in Millersville’s 7-6 loss to IUP in the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday. In Millersville’s 14-2 win over Bloomsburg in game one of a twinbill sweep, Masciulli was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. In the Marauders’ 5-2 win in game two, Masciulli had two hits.
Jovanna Alfonsi (North Penn) hit a three-run home run in Thomas Jefferson University’s 7-4 loss to Dominican on Thursday in the CACC Tournament. In last Sunday’s 6-4 win over Dominican, Alfonsi had a pair of hits and scored a run.
Alyssa Wilkinson (Quakertown) notched her fifth shutout of the season in Elizabethtown’s 5-0 win over Muhlenberg in game two of a doubleheader split. She allowed five hits while striking out four and walking none. It was her ninth complete game of the season and eighth win of the year.
Cabrini junior Marissa Alpaugh (Pennsbury) was named to the All-CSAC first team. The Pennsbury graduate led the Cavaliers with a .443 batting average, 12 doubles, five home runs and 43 RBIs en route to her third all-conference honor. The junior drove in multiple runs on 13 occasions, including six games with three RBIs. Alpaugh got hot during Cabrini’s final games, reaching safely in 18 of the team’s final 19 games and recording at least one run scored in 12 of 13 games down the stretch.
Alpaugh doubled and drove in a run in Cabrini’s 7-4 season-ending loss to Neumann in the CSAC Championship Tournament on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 9-5 win over Gwynedd Mercy in game one of a doubleheader split, Alpaugh had a pair of hits, including a triple, and scored three runs. In last Saturday’s twinbill sweep of Cedar Crest, Alpaugh was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs in the Cavaliers’ 9-5 win, and she was 1-for-3 in Cabrini’s 3-2 win.
Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) hit a two-run home run in Bloomsburg’s 9-4 loss to Seton Hill on Thursday on the second day of the PSAC Tournament. In the Huskies’ 4-1 win over California (Pa.) earlier in the day, Bridget Casey (Pennridge) singled and scored. In Wednesday’s 4-3 opening round loss to Gannon, Mayhew was 2-for-4. In the Huskies 7-0 win over Clarion in game one of a DH sweep last Sunday, Mayhew led the offense with four hits. Her fourth hit of the afternoon was the 200th of her career. Casey tallied two hits.
Senior Koirama Dudley (Neshaminy) collected her team’s only hit in Delaware Valley’s 10-0 loss to Arcadia on Tuesday. The team’s lone senior playing in her final collegiate game went 1-for-2 and also had three putouts at shortstop. In last Saturday’s 4-1 loss to King’s College, Dudley was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Penn State Abington junior Becca Dougherty (Council Rock South) was named to the All-NEAC first team for her season in the circle and at the plate. The junior pitcher saw action in 23 of 28 games. At the plate, Dougherty led the team with a .395 average with 18 RBIs, 32 hits and 12 runs score.
Penn State Abington senior Caitlin Brasier (Harry S Truman) earned All-NEAC third team recognition. Brasier finished second on the Nittany Lions with a .329 batting average, knocking in 14 runs and scoring 12 with 27 hits for the year.
Danielle Hebling (William Tennent) was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in Penn State Abington’s 9-0 win over Lancaster Bible College in game two of a doubleheader sweep last Saturday. In the Nittany Lions’ 2-1 loss to Delaware Valley University, Dougherty hit a solo home run.
Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) earned the complete game win in Fordham’s 3-1 win over La Salle on Saturday. The Neshaminy graduate allowed just three hits and one run while striking out five and walking none.
Sophomore Jackie Heim (William Tennent) ripped an RBI double in La Salle’s 5-2 loss to Fordham in Sunday’s season finale.
Sophomore Meghan Klee (Quakertown), playing in her hometown, hit a two-run double in Shippensburg’s 10-7 loss to Seton Hill in Wednesday’s PSAC Championships opener. She also walked twice. In Shippensburg’s doubleheader sweep of Millersville, senior Maddie Mulhall (Quakertown) returned to the lineup for the first time in more than two months after suffering a back injury in February. She drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance and received a large ovation from the crowd and her teammates. Klee finished the day with an RBI single, another single, a walk and a sacrifice in seven plate appearances.
Widener sophomore Jamie Gosselin (Abington) was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth second team for the second consecutive season. The Abington graduate hit .337 with a .402 on-base percentage and 16 steals in 18 attempts. She was third on the team in both hits (31) and runs scored (19) and topped the squad in sacrifice bunts with five. She was at her best in a key doubleheader against Lebanon Valley where she went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and three stolen bases.
Gosselin had three hits in Widener’s season-ending doubleheader sweep at the hands of Hood last Saturday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington sophomore Brandon Zweiback (Cheltenham) was part of the All-NEAC first team doubles team that won its championship match over Penn State Berks 8-3.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington senior Stephanie Jin (Wissahickon) was part of the doubles team that earned first team All-NEAC recognition. In singles, Jin earned NEAC third team by earning an 8-3 win in the consolation match.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Bucknell freshman Connor McMenamin (Souderton) finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The Souderton graduate improved on his best time by nearly 10 seconds to complete the race in 9:09.79. McMenamin was the only freshman to finish in the top eight.
Sophomore David Bryant (Upper Dublin) was part of Saint Joseph’s sprint medley relay that shattered the program’s 20-year-old record to highlight the Hawks’ performances at the 2018 Penn Relays. They took down the record by 3.05 seconds with a time of 3:19.88. The performance was good for sixth in a field of 32 in the Championship of America Invitational as the Hawks defeated South Carolina, UTech and Indiana for the top six finish. Bryant was also part of the 4x200m relay that checked in with a season-best time of 1:27.41, good for second in the five-team field of the Eastern Finals. That same group finished in 1:27.78 a day earlier to advance out of the preliminary rounds as the 15th fastest time in the field of 31.
Ursinus freshman Griffin McMann (Pennridge) tallied a PR in the discus at the Centennial Conference outdoor championship on Saturday, outperforming his previous standard by 14 feet with a 132-8 on his second throw to finish ninth, one spot out of scoring range in his outdoor championship debut. In last Saturday’s meet at Elizabethtown, sophomore Brody Johnson (Central Bucks West) was part of the 4x100m relay that placed second with a 44.50, which places them fifth in the CC.
Shippensburg senior Alex Balla (Quakertown) paced three Raider scorers in the 10K with a fourth place finish in 32:43.41 at the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Thursday. In last Saturday’s 14th Annual Paul Kaiser Classic, Balla finished second in the 5,000 meters.
Sean Stovall (Springfield Township) was part of Widener’s 4×400 relay team that finished second in the Pop Haddleton MAC race at the Penn Relays with a time of 3:20.29.
Kutztown University senior Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) had a day to remember on Friday. After five career top-five finishes and three runner-up performances, the KU senior won his first conference championship with a vault of 5.19m (17-00.25). He not only won his first title, he broke the meet record, posted KU’s best vault since 2000 and automatically qualified for nationals. He ranks sixth in Division II. Raguz cleared 17 feet for this first time of his career, and his 17-00.25 was only a half inch off the school and conference record held by KU’s Paul Schmitt in 2000. At the Penn Relays, Raguz finished in third place, clearing 15-11.
Raguz was named the PSAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 23 after clearing a career best mark of 5.03m (16-6) and won his event at the Greyhound Invitational. His height improves Raguz’s fourth all-time mark in school history and gave the CB South graduate his second pole vault victory of the spring season.
Kutztown freshman Cameron Christopher (Wissahickon) finished second in his heat and ninth overall in 1:55.16 in the 800m. Anthony Bullaro (Pennsbury) was part of KU’s 4×100 relay that finished sixth with a time of 42.75. Obi Ogbonna (Harry S Truman) finished eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.55. Tommy Oliver (Bensalem) finished 10th in high jump with a season-best 1.94m (6-04.25). Oliver finished in eighth place in his first career championship decathlon. He scored a season-high 5,576 points. He opened his second day of the decathlon with a second place run in the 110m hurdles. He also finished third in the 1500m in 4:49.66 and posted a season best in the pole vault of 10-8 to finish seventh.
Bloomsburg senior Austin Kline (Central Bucks West) wrapped up his collegiate career by earning a pair of podium spots on the final day of the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday. Kline posted a personal-best time of 48.79 in the finals of 400m dash to earn a fifth place finish. He qualified for the final by posting a 49.13 mark. Kline then helped the Huskies 4x400m relay team earn a seventh place finish with a time of 3:23.24. Alex Moran (Pennridge) was also part of the 4x400m relay. Matthew Hart (Pennsbury) finished 11th in the shot put (13.33m) and 14th in the javelin (49.21m). The Pennsbury graduate placed ninth in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.97. At the Huskies’ annual Maroon and Gold Invitational last weekend, Moran finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.95. Kline was part of the winning 4×400 relay team (3:28.52). Hart posted a personal best mark in the javelin and finished second (52.36m). He took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.29.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Gettysburg junior Danielle DeMichael (Central Bucks East) was part of the 4x400m relay that finished fourth with a time of 4:07.06 at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday. At the Paul Kaiser Invitational last Saturday, DeMichael finished eighth out of 48 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.83.
Monmouth University junior Allison Taub (Council Rock South) was named the MAAC Female Field Performer of the 2018 MAAC Championship on Sunday. The CR South graduate won the shot put with a mark of 46’11.5” and finished second in the discus with a mark of 149-4”. At the Lehigh Games last weekend, Taub won the discus with a mark of 152’7” and also won the shot put with a throw of 47’8.5”. Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South) finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.25, and Amber Stratz (Central Bucks South) placed sixth with a time of 2:14.63. Brianna and Amber Stratz were both part of the 4×800 relay that finished first with a time of 8:57.05. At the Penn Relays, Taub placed 12th in the college discus with a mark of 143’4” and 10th in the college shot put by hitting 46’1”.
Duquesne junior Shannon Taub (Council Rock South) finished seventh in the high jump at 1.60 meters as well as eighth in the heptathlon with 4,409 points at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday. At the Penn Relays, Taub competed in the high jump, placing 22nd with a mark of 1.59 meters.
Junior Riley Engel (Council Rock North) was part of the Ursinus College’s 4x800m relay team that finished sixth with a time of 10:03.43 at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championship. The placement was the Bears’ best in the longest relay at the outdoor meet since taking sixth in 2013, and the time was almost 40 seconds ahead of last year’s pace. Last Saturday at Elizabethtown, freshman Molly Rodeabaugh (Central Bucks West) finished fifth in the 100m dash, qualifying for the finals heat on the strength of a personal best 14.00. At the Penn Relays, freshman Rachel Coleman (Wissahickon) was part of the 4×100 relay team that lowered its season best a third of a second to 51.11, good for fifth in the eight-team heat. The Bears’ quartet moved from sixth to third in the CC in the process.
Shippensburg senior Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) was part of the 4×100 relay that broke the school record in the event with a time of 46.89 at the preliminaries on Friday at the 2018 PSAC Championships. In Saturday’s final, the All-PSAC team finished third with a time of 46.96, marking the second straight day that an SU 4×1 relay broke the 47-second mark. Sheehan was also part of the fourth place 4x400m relay that finished in 3:53.77. Sophomore Jordan Higgins (Hatboro-Horsham) placed eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:06.65). Sophomore Sophia Carabba (Abington) was part of the 4x800m relay that placed eighth with a time of 9:46.77.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Sara Gray (William Tennent) was named to the CSAC Track and Field Honor Roll for the week ending April 23. The Tennent graduate broke the school outdoor record in the high jump at the Greyhound Invitational. Her mark of 1.60 meters put her in second place overall at the meet but first as a CSAC mark to that point in the season. Gray also owns the school record in the indoor high jump as well (1.68m).
Allison Gallagher (Souderton) was part of Widener’s 4×400 relay that finished second with a time of 3:59.08 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. At the Penn Relays, Gallagher also was part of the 4×400 relay that posted a time of 3:59.41, placing third in the Centennial/MAC race.
Kutztown junior Stephanie Bresadola (North Penn) finished fourth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:41.33 at the 2018 PSAC Championships on Saturday. Olivia Morano (Quakertown) cleared a season-best mark of 36.32m (119-02) in the discus to finish ninth. The Quakertown graduate finished 22nd in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.60m (123-04).
West Chester junior Allison King (North Penn) finished third in the 400m in 56.63 at the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Emily Magnant (Hatboro-Horsham) was fourth in the 200m dash in 25.4 seconds. Caroline DiJiosia (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished ninth in the heptathlon with 3,738 points. In last weekend’s Paul Kaiser Classic, Courtney Taylor (Central Bucks South) finished sixth in the 400m dash. Emily Yemm (Council Rock South) recorded a mark of 36-4, earning a ninth place finish while also serving as a PSAC qualifying mark.
Freshmen Jessica Brenfleck (North Penn) and Kathleen Stevenson (North Penn) were part of Bloomsburg’s 4x400m relay team that shattered the program record and finished seventh with a time of 3:54.86, breaking the previous record of 3:58.04. Both were also part of the 4×100 relay that posted a time of 48.57 during qualifications, besting the previous record by nearly two-tenths of a second (48.76). However, the time was just short of making the finals. Stevenson earned All-PSAC honors for her sixth place finish in the long jump (5.39 meters). At the Huskies’ annual Maroon and Gold Invitational last weekend, Brenfleck and Stevenson were part of the winning 4x400m relay team that finished in 4:05.69.
Junior Leiana Dean (North Penn) was part of Bloomsburg’s 4x400m relay that finished sixth with a time of 3:54.76 at the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
