He also helped his own cause with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, giving the Falcons a lead they would not lose.

UPPER DUBLIN 8, ABINGTON 1
Tristan Cairnes stole the spotlight with his complete game win on the mound. The UD senior allowed just two hits and one run (unearned) while striking out nine and walking one.
“Tristan had an awesome game,” UD coach Ed Wall said. “He threw really well – a complete game, and this early in the season, it’s not something that we’re trying to do.
“He only threw 89 pitches and was cruising. He didn’t have a strenuous inning. He had a little bit of difficulty in the first inning, but beyond that, he rolled. Last year he was our number one and had a fantastic season, and he’s off to a great start.”
The Ghosts put an unearned run on the board in the top of the first, and in the bottom of the second, the Cardinals took a lead they would not lose. Ethan Mandick singled to lead off the inning, and Nick Harley drew a walk. Leo Soriano’s RBI single evened the score, and the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead on an RBI fielder’s choice by Joe Levis. Soriano scored on a successful double steal, and a fourth run crossed the plate on Kyle Rizzo’s single.
In the fourth, Levis hit an RBI single to right, giving the Cardinals a 5-1 lead. Nick Lombardo ripped an RBI triple to right, and he scored when Cairnes doubled to right field. Mandick’s RBI single to center gave the Cardinals their final margin of victory.
Mandick was 3-for-3 with a run and RBI. Soriano was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, and Levis was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIS. Lombardo tripled and drove in a run.
“(Landon) Kratchman continued to get on base again this game,” Wall said. “We did a really good job against some really good pitching.”
Upper Dublin (2-1, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Quakertown on Tuesday, and Abington (1-1, 0-1) will host Wissaickon on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 8, CHELTENHAM 3
Tennent pounded out 10 hits, and Lucas Kimbrough notched the complete game win in Friday’s SOL opener.
“We played well, and it was a good start to the season,” Tennent coach Lucas Denzi said. “Lucas pitched a fantastic game. He allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking one to earn his first varsity victory.
“On offense, we totaled 10 hits, led by Josh Nydick and Jordani Tiburcio, who both had multi-hit games.”
In the top of the first Kevin Kocher collected a one-out single, and he scored on Julio Ybarra’s RBI single to spot Tennent an early 1-0 lead. Cheltenham evened the score with a run in the bottom of the inning and took a 2-1 lead in the third.
Tennent answered with three runs in the top of the fourth. Jordani Tiburcio and Kimbrough both singled, and Tim Lawson ripped an RBI double to left field that gave the visiting Panthers a 4-1 lead. They added a pair of runs in the fifth and took a 6-3 lead into the seventh when they added two more runs.
Nydick was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Tiburcio was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
William Tennent (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Springfield Township on Tuesday, and Cheltenham (1-2, 0-1) will travel to Upper Moreland on Wednesday.

UPPER MORELAND 11, LOWER MORELAND 8
Scoring runs was not a problem for either team in Friday’s SOL contest, and both teams scored in all seven innings with the exception of the bottom of the fourth when the Lions were held without a run.
“It was good to get a win, I’m happy for the kids,” UM first-year coach Jim Fasano said. “We showed some guts today, and we’re gonna need ‘em.
“Our pitchers have to get ahead in counts, and our defense needs to cut back on the errors, but we will work and improve. It’s a great group of boys and I’m proud to be a part of their lives.”
The Golden Bears took a lead they would not lose with a three-run uprising in the top of the fourth. Jimmy Torpey drew a leadoff walk and scored when Nate O’Connor followed and roped a double into center field. One out later, Jaryd Meehl was hit by a pitch, and two runs crossed the plate when Paul Meyers lined a double to left that gave the Golden Bears a 6-4 lead.
The Lions pulled to within one (7-6) with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Golden Bears added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to go on top 9-6, using singles by Meyers, Shawn Townsend, Jared McCellan (RBI) and Patrick Kilgus (RBI).
Lower Moreland plated a single run in the bottom of the inning, thanks to an RBI double by Mike Pennisi.
For good measure, UM scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Meyers drove in a run with a double and Townsend’s RBI single put the Bears on top 11-7. The Lions scored a run in the bottom of the inning and left a pair on base, but the Golden Bears escaped with the win.
Townsend ignited the Golden Bears’ 13-hit attack out of the leadoff spot, finishing 3-for-4 with a solo home run to lead off the third inning. He scored three runs and had a pair of RBIs. O’Connor was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI, and Meyers was 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run and three RBIs. McCellan was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
For the Lions, Matt Dymowski (2-for-5, 1 run) and Donato Incollingo (2-for-3, 2 runs) had multiple hits.
Upper Moreland (1-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham on Wednesday, and Lower Moreland (1-2, 0-2) will be on the road at Springfield Township on Monday.
