Senior Kennedie Ruth tossed a three-hit shutout in Friday’s SOL opener, facing 26 batters and allowing only five hits in the complete game win.
The Redskins got off to a fast start, putting three runs on the board in the first inning. Junior Lindsey Gorka started things off with a single up the middle. Senior Jill Thomas followed with a double off the fence, plating Gorka. Junior Ryleigh Bilbrey’s double down the right field line scored both Thomas and Ruth, who both reached base on a walk.
The Redskins didn’t score again until the bottom of the fourth. Senior Zoe Shimp reached second on a two-base error. Seniors Carena Barr, Laura Chorba, and Amanda Slabicki all reached base on a single followed by two walks. All four of the seniors went on to score.
The bottom of the sixth inning started off with a single to left field from senior Meryn Bellacima and a double from Gorka. Both players scored later in the inning.
In a contest that saw the Redskins collect seven hits, Bellacima was the lone player with multiple hits – she had a single and double.

HARRY S TRUMAN 12, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (6 innings)
Kylee Thomas tossed a complete game shutout in Friday’s SOL opener, allowing four hits while striking our four and walking none.
The Tigers gave Thomas plenty of run support, erupting for six runs in the second inning and adding to that lead to bring an early end to the game.
“We fielded the ball extremely well, which has been a focus for us this spring,” Truman coach Rick Palmer said. “North played hard and never quit.
“They have a young squad, and I expect to see a different team when we play later in the season.”
Hannah Smith got the ball rolling in the six-run second with a line single to right. She scored when Emma Olsen doubled to center field. The Tigers benefitted from an Indian miscue as well as a pair of walks, and Courtney Nau delivered the inning’s big blow – a three-run double to left field that gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead.
The Tigers added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning. Jess Adams lined a solo home run to left field to lead off the sixth inning. Other highlights of the four-run inning were singles by Teyana Towner and Ava Kilner (RBI) as well as Nau’s second double of the game to drive in the Tigers’ final run.
Nau finished a productive day 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and one run scored. Kilner was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Olsen doubled, drove in a run and scored a pair. Adams also had a pair of RBIs.
“Truman did a nice job putting the ball in play with multiple extra base hits,” Rock North coach Susan Yee said. “They made our team work, and took advantage of our mistakes. Truman centerfielder (Teyana) Towner made a great play to end the game, diving over the centerfield fence to rob Molly Sheehy of a two-run home run.”
Freshman Sierra Klein (2-for-3) was the lone player for CR North to record multiple hits.
Harry S Truman (1-0 SOL) will host Bensalem on Tuesday, and Council Rock North (0-1) will be on the road at Council Rock South on Tuesday.
