WISSAHICKON 8, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 3
The last time the Trojans took on the Vikings in a District 1 3A playback game last May, they made history, earning the program’s first ever trip to the state tournament with an 11-2 win.
The stakes weren’t as high on Friday, but the Trojans notched an impressive win, turning a 3-2 halftime lead into a five-goal win.
Making the win even more impressive is the fact that the Trojans were without junior Kyle Lehman (injury), an All-SOL first team attacker last season.
“We knew we were going to have to grind out a win,” Wissahickon coach Matt Conway said. “Dean Wolfe played his first full game since he hurt his ankle the first week of the season, which was huge for us. Andrew Slackman also had a huge game.”
Slackman (3 goals, 2 assists) and Wolfe (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Trojans’ attack. Sam Becker had one goal and three assists, and Nick Donofrio had one goal.
The Trojans led 3-0 after one quarter only to see the Vikings pull to within one by halftime.
“We got an illegal stick penalty, and PV scored twice on the ensuing man up,” Conway said. “The whole defense played well, but Andrew Beans was great in cage with 16 saves.
“Also, Dominic Kemper battled hard facing off against their group of guys who are all good fogo’s.”
Comprising the Trojans’ stingy defense – in addition to Beans – were Jake Licata, Quinn Fonash, Joseph Connolly, Matthew Bauer and Matthew Slovin.
