Non-league SOL crossover
Plymouth Whitemarsh 1, Pennsbury 0
The letter M is the 13th letter of the modern alphabet and is used to abbreviate all manner of things from numbers to measurements to mass transit.
As far as the Colonials are concerned, the letter M is usually a precursor of a positive outcome, whether it’s Maddie McGuckien, Maddi Lazaroff, Molly McEvoy or Maddie McLaughlin. PW’s multitude of M’s found themselves, along with their teammates, with their hands full on the road under the lights against a quality Pennsbury team in a match that felt like it could easily have been played a month from now in the postseason.
Ultimately, it was an M to M connection that provided the difference as Maddi Lazaroff recorded her seventh assist of the fall, putting a corner kick where Maddie McGuckien could get it for her seventh goal of the season.
With plenty going on away from the pitch with PW in the midst of its always spirited Homecoming Week, the Colonials capped a busy week in “M”-phatic fashion.
Scoring Summary

2nd Half
PW – Maddie McGuckien (Maddi Lazaroff) 65th
PW coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “Incredible effort tonight in a playoff-level game under the lights at Pennsbury. Tonight was Night Four of Homecoming Week. Our team had Wing Bowl Monday night, Powderpuff Tuesday night and a wild and raucous Color Wars (Wednesday) night in the gym. I didn’t know what to expect out of our team tonight, knowing how little sleep the PW student body has had this week.
“We faced some adversity over the past week, and we received a total team response tonight. The team can now relax and enjoy the weekend with the Homecoming Football game Friday and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday.”
–Patete makes a difference: “This was an intense, physical game. Pennsbury is a very good team. We felt that junior Liv Patete really changed the game in midfield, coming off the bench. It gave us a little bit more physicality that we needed. Patete is a three-sport athlete, varsity basketball starter, and QB1 for our flag team. She still doesn’t know how good of an athlete she is yet.”
–PW defense stands tall: “Our backline of Maddie McLaughlin, Kaiane Jayo, Maddie McGuckien, and JJ Lafferty were terrific. No one would know JJ Lafferty was a freshman watching her compete in that level of game tonight.”
–Maddi to Maddie creates a goal: “At halftime, we told our team that we weren’t able to play soccer the way we usually do against Pennsbury, to their credit. It was going to be a dogfight, scrappy. We told them we’d have to win it on a set piece. Then, 15 minutes into the second half, senior Maddie McGuckien connected with a Maddi Lazaroff corner ball for her team-leading seventh goal and Laz’s team-leading seventh assist.”
–McEvoy stands out: “I’d also like to highlight the play in midfield tonight by freshman, Molly McEvoy. The motor that this kid has to play for 80 minutes in that intense and physical of a game is really really fun to watch.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh is off until next Friday when the Colonials will host Springfield Twp, and Pennsbury will host St. Hubert’s in a non-league match Friday.

Hatboro-Horsham 3, Council Rock South 2 (OT)
The Hatters had to work a little longer than usual for it, but their overtime efforts were rewarded with a strong win over a quality Golden Hawks side on Thursday.
CR South, which was looking to bounce back from a loss earlier in the week against CB East, put Hatboro-Horsham behind
early. Hatboro-Horsham responded, tying the game before the break then taking a lead after halftime only for CR South to repay the favor with a late equalizer.
While the Hatters had a few regulars like Ryleigh White and Lily Harvey step up as usual, it would be a new name that played the late hero. Freshman Leah Johnson was in the right place at the right time to put a good finish on her first varsity goal as the game-winner.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRS goal
HH – Dakota Slye (Ryleigh White)
2nd Half
HH – Courtney Rinius (Lily Harvey)
CRS goal
OT
HH – Leah Johnson (Lily Harvey)
HH coach Chris Artman on the win: “Really good week for us picking up two much-needed wins. CR South is very well coached, and we knew it was going to be a tough game. We came out a little flat and were getting beat to balls, the game lacked energy. CR South got on the board first off a corner. They caught us sleeping and played a short corner and were able to drive the ball across the goal mouth for an easy finish. Not the start we wanted, but to the girls’ credit, they collected themselves and were able to tie the game up late in the half.”
–HH first goal: “Ryleigh White got on the ball on the left side of the field and slipped a very nice ball into Dakota Slye who made a nice run from the midfield. She beat the keeper in the upper corner to draw us even.”
–Hatters take lead after halftime: “We talked at halftime about the importance of playing a full 80 minutes. We started slow in the first half and did not want a repeat of that in the second half. A few minutes into the start of the second half, Lily Harvey drove down the left side, beating their back, and drove a ball across which Courtney Rinius put into the back of the net to give us the 2-1 lead. CR South continued to play hard and was able to tie the game at two on a nice strike from distance into the upper left corner.”
–Winning in OT: “At the end of regulation, the girls were focused on coming out strong and trying to get the game winner right away. A couple minutes into the first OT, Ryleigh White picked up the ball and found Lily Harvey on the left side of the area. Lily served the ball into the box where freshman Leah Johnson took the ball out of the air and found the back of the net for the game winner. Leah has been working really hard and it was great to see her get her first career high school goal.”
Props: “Sydney Cassel made a few big saves keeping us in the game, especially in the first half when we were disorganized on the field.”
Up next: Council Rock South will travel to Council Rock North on Saturday (1pm), and Hatboro-Horsham will be on the road at Central Bucks East on Thursday.

Neshaminy 5, Abington 0
Tuesday night, Abington was feeling pretty confident while Neshaminy was picking itself up after a tough loss.
At the end of Thursday’s crossover clash, the roles had been reversed. Neshaminy was able to contain a Ghosts team that always seems to cause some troubles in their past meetings thanks to some well-connected play on the attacking end and a focused, resilient effort in the defensive third.
Senior Bri Garyah put together a strong overall game, producing two first half goals while goalkeeper Alexis Barnes commanded the back to put up the clean sheet, with a host of teammates chipping in plenty of different ways between them.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
N – Bri Garyah (Celia Horton)
N – Mia Stock
N – Bri Garyah (Grace D’Alfonso)
2nd Half
N – Lily Kaczmarek
N – Chloe Santangelo (Nana Ofosu-Mensah)
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed on the win: “We needed to come out and be ready to go from the first minute today. Crossover games with Abington always seem to be tough, and after dropping a game to Pennridge on Tuesday, we really needed a win today. It was nice to see everyone working on both ends of the field.”
–First half goals: “We got the scoring going early when Emmy Rooney found some space down the left side and played a ball into Celia Horton, who quickly played the ball back to Bri Garyah to finish over the keeper. The second goal, Mia Stock collected a rebound and was able to dribble free and find some space to shoot. The third goal before half was a quick transition run and pass from Grace D’Alfonso to Bri for her second goal of the day.”
–Hanging tough after half: “In the second half, Abington came out much more aggressive, attacking a bit more. I was really happy with the way our defense handled that, and Alexis Barnes made some good saves to keep a clean sheet. We settled back in and got back into a rhythm again and began to create more chances.”
–Second half goals: “The fourth goal came off a rebound from a corner when the ball popped back out to Lily Kaczmarek who placed the ball in the back corner. Then our last goal came from a ball played through the box that Nana Ofosu-Mensah laid off for Chloe Santangelo to knock in.
–Props: “I was really happy with how everyone played today. The midfield did a great job winning balls and keeping width and finding space. Emmy Rooney, Celia Horton, Mia Stock, Grace D’Alfonso deserve mentioning for some great work on the field today as well.”
Up next: Neshaminy will travel to William Tennent on Thursday, and Abington will host Central Bucks East on Monday.
NESHAMINY 2 3 – 5
ABINGTON 0 0 – 0
Quakertown 3, Bensalem 0
A pair of late first half goals finally broke open a scoreless tie as the Panthers made it two wins in two tries so far in crossover play.
Sophomore Maya James was the catalyst for Quakertown, scoring the game-winner with just a few minutes left in the first half then adding an assist to help shut the door in the second half. It was an overall strong day for the Panthers’ underclassmen as sophomores Emily Marzinke and Shylee Williams also scored and freshman Alexa Shaw added an assist.
It wasn’t just the attack either, as three underclassmen on the back line stepped up and helped the Panthers post the shutout.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
Q – Maya James 36th
Q – Emily Marzinke (Alexa Shaw) 38th
2nd half
Q – Shylee Williams (Maya James)
Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich on the win: “We have been getting a bit of the injury bug, but a lot of different girls are stepping up and contributing. Our success so far this season is because these girls are really playing like a team.”
–James makes an impact: “Sophomore Maya James was a beast for us today. Maya worked so hard all game. She followed up on a shot and buried the rebound for her goal. She made a great move to get into a breakaway situation and unselfishly passed the ball to her teammate to get us to 3-0 lead. Maya was a big reason we had success today.”
–Defensive props: “Centerbacks senior Anna Greenday and sophomore Ellie Stanziola, outside backs sophomore Brielle Bailey and freshman Alexa Reich just played controlled defense all game. They didn’t get rattled and played controlled possession throughout the game. We did really well today in switching the field and our defense was a big part in that.”
Up next: Bensalem will travel to Villa Joseph Marie for a non-league game Monday, and Quakertown will host Saucon Valley in a non-league game Saturday (10am).
QUAKERTOWN 2 1 – 3
BENSALEM 0 0 – 0
Central Bucks East 5, Upper Moreland 0
Taylor Roumy scored twice in the first half and Mia Forney scored twice in the second half, leading CB East to a fifth straight win on Thursday.
While the Patriots – who got a goal from Quinn Reilley in between the dueling braces from the junior standouts – put away five goals, it was a bit of a tactical challenge getting there. Upper Moreland had a defensive plan it stuck to, and while CB East did create plenty of chances, Golden Bears keeper Gracie Costello had a strong showing between the posts to force the hosts to work that much harder.
Roumy finally figured things out late in the first half, the recent Richmond commit netting a pair in the final eight minutes before halftime and her team didn’t slow down despite some frustrations and being turned away offensively.
An overall solid effort behind the front line made it 80 strong minutes as the defending District 1 Class 4A champions ended the day in the top spot of the current district power rankings.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBE – Taylor Roumy (Mattie Williams) 7:25
CBE – Taylor Roumy 4:30
2nd Half
CBE – Quinn Reilly (Liz Mooney) 36:00
CBE – Mia Forney 19:27
CBE – Mia Forney 6:21

UM Gracie Costello 16 saves
CBE Maddie Thompson 1 save
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “Overall, great team effort today across the board. I was really proud of the chances we created in this game and our patience throughout. Sometimes in games where you create a lot of opportunities but don’t finish them, it can create a bit of angst or panic, but I thought our kids stayed really level-headed through this one and did what they needed to do to earn this result.”
–Props: “Clearly, Mia and Taylor continue to be problems for backlines, and credit to the play from kids underneath them like Ava Mignon, Mattie Williams, Ella Roumy, and Mackenzie Peters to put them in spots to flourish. I loved what Quinn Reilly gave us throughout this game, and I thought Delaney Ralph in the midfield and Lina Dan in the back put in two really good shifts. A massive shoutout to Maddie Thompson for the clean sheet as well. While it wasn’t a busy day for her, she stepped in and did a good job at her feet and in her communication.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto: “Really proud of the effort our girls put in today. They played tough against a very strong CB East team and stuck to our game plan of slowing down their attack and forcing play to the corners. Defensively, we were disciplined and caught them offside 10 times throughout the match. Gracie Costello was solid in goal, backed by a strong defensive line of Kiera Hess, Aubrey Scarpitti, Julie Albert, Emma Kramer, Jayda Rivera, and Tess Benner. We were also able to get a lot of players into the rotation, which kept fresh legs on the field and helped disrupt CBE’s offensive rhythm. Overall, it was a really great team effort, with everyone contributing to keep us competitive throughout the game.”
Up next: Central Bucks East will travel to Radnor on Saturday for a non-league game (1pm), and Upper Moreland will travel to Dock Mennonite Academy for a non-league game Friday.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2 3 – 5
UPPER MORELAND 0 0 – 0
Central Bucks West 3, Lower Moreland 1
Thursday felt more like CB West soccer.
No doubt, the Bucks have played a difficult schedule so far, and the fixtures haven’t given much time for rest or recovery between. At the same time, West’s coaches and players have a high standard and felt like some of their recent games hadn’t reached that level.
Facing a pretty good Lower Moreland side on Thursday, the Lions again gutting it out against a bigger school and keeping things close throughout, the Bucks played more to expectations while showing plenty of toughness in more ways than one.
Senior captain Janelle Blokker set a tone early with a soaring header to open the scoring and the team’s effort seemed to follow suit to hold off LM’s charge.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBW – Janelle Blokker
CBW – Allie Pisch
LM – Emma Leibert (Agnes Kroll)
2nd Half
CBW – Andy Friel
CB West coach Bree Benedict on the win: “After a really tough stretch, our group stepped up today. We’ve been working hard to be more aware, slow the game down, and play with a purpose—and today was a true 180. We were relaxed on the ball, connected to feet well, switched the field, and found a rhythm.”
–Blokker and Pisch step up: “The day started with a big play on a corner from Janelle, who buried a header after I challenged her to be more imposing on set pieces. That goal set the tone and showed the leadership you only get from a three-year captain. A little later, Allie Pisch—who was fantastic all day despite being under the weather—found the far post from inside the box. She was creative, dynamic, and did a great job creating overloads, playing 1v1, and connecting with teammates.”
–Friel adds insurance: “Our final goal came in the second half when Andy Friel pounced on a rebound after an Olivia Barrett shot. Liv was excellent in midfield all day—calm on the ball, picking her head up, and helping us control the tempo. Andy’s aggressiveness and willingness to crash the box paid off, and it was great to see her finish it.”
–Props: “Alyssa Terry rose to the occasion in midfield, battling through tough 50/50s and handling head balls when Janelle came out. Emily Van Why put in a great shift at outside back, while Sophie Borgmann showed toughness for our team—despite not feeling 100 percent, she went back in and finished the game when we needed her. We’re excited to head into a short break to heal some injuries and settle into a less rigorous schedule. All in all, I’m really proud of this group. It hasn’t been an easy year in terms of results, but their commitment has never wavered, and today the scoreboard reflected their growth.”
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the match: “Our girls had stretches of really strong play today, but we weren’t able to put it all together for 80 minutes. After going down two goals in the first half, with eight minutes left, Agnes Kroll sent a nice ball to Emma Leibert. Emma then did a lot of work to beat her defender and earned a one on one with the goalie where she slid it into the corner of the goal.”
–Shoutouts: “Junior defender Agnes Kroll had a really strong game in the back. She was really smart in stepping to the ball, supported the defense well, and then made some really effective runs into the attacking end of the field. Senior goalkeeper Giuls Fogarty had some great saves today, keeping the game in reach for the duration.”
Up next: Central Bucks West is off until next Friday (Sept. 26) when the Bucks will be on the road at Neshaminy, and Lower Moreland will be on the road Friday at Germantown Friends for a non-league contest.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 1 – 3
LOWER MORELAND 1 0 – 1
Council Rock North 4, Wissahickon 1
Council Rock North has simply been plugging away all season.
Thursday’s win over a Wissahickon team coming off a dramatic victory of its own on Tuesday showed a lot of what’s gone into the Indians’ 9-0-0 record. Four different players scored, four different players tallied assists and behind them was a lineup of players willing to stick to their roles and contribute to a team win.
Wissahickon scored early in the second half to make it a 1-1 game but the Trojans couldn’t find the same kind of offensive spark they had earlier in the week while CR North responded by opening up the pitch and unlocking some quality chances with sharp movement and passing.
It’s a busy week for CR North and it’s one that ends with an always intense match against rival Council Rock South on Saturday.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRN – Kinsley Smith (Claire Kelly)
2nd Half
Wiss goal
CRN – Sarina Igval (Audrey Rogan)
CRN – Kayla Gage (Ashley Barone)
CRN – Isabel Diaz (Keagan Terry)
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “A game that felt like a comfortable win by the end but one that we had to work hard for throughout. The first half was somewhat even, maybe we had a little more possession, but Wissahickon had some dangerous moments through their set plays and some counter attacks. With about 10 minutes left in the first half Kinsley Smith headed a corner from Claire Kelly back across goal and over the Goalkeeper. Really pleased for Kinsley, she’s one of our senior captains and really deserved her goal today, her individual plays don’t always show up on a stat sheet, but she competes as hard as anyone at this level and isn’t afraid to put herself on the line to win a ball.”
–North opens up after halftime: “Early in the second half Wissahickon was able to score to tie the game up on a nice finish from a cross. From that point on, I thought we played some of our best soccer in a while. We seemed sharper and more focused and were able to take the lead when Audrey Rogan played a great through ball to Sarina Igval who outpaced a defender and then dribbled around the keeper for an easy finish. With less than 10 minutes left, Ashley Barone played a great cross and found Kayla Gage at the far post for a nice finish before Keagen Terry assisted Isabel Diaz to add a fourth goal.”
–Standouts: “We have three games this week, and utilizing more players has been a focus for us with the schedule we have. We were really pleased with the minutes and overall play we got from Ashley Barone, Kayla Gage, Claire Kelly and Brynn Rodgers today. Sometimes with players, if you don’t always get a lot of minutes you try to show you can do more, but I’m really impressed that our group is focused on the process we have and what we are asking them to do. It shows a lot of maturity and I think it’s a definite positive factor in our record so far.”
Up next: Council Rock North will host Council Rock South on Saturday (1pm), and Wissahickon will travel to Abington next Friday (Sept 26).
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 3 – 4

Upper Dublin 7, Harry S Truman 0
For the second game in a row, the Cardinals jumped out to a fast lead before adding on to pick up consecutive SOL crossover wins.
After going up 3-0 inside the first 15 minutes, the Cardinals rotated some of their younger players in and saw one of them in sophomore Maya Schulz net her first varsity goal before halftime. Schulz would finish with two goals, as did Anna Loev who had a second half brace.

UD – Maya Schutz 25th
2nd Half

UD – Maya Schultz (Ella Schocky) 60th
UD – Anna Loev 68th
UD coach Darius Gbunblee on the win: “Great game as a whole, I think this was a good confidence boost for our team going into the second half of the season. I would like to shine the spotlight on sophomore Maya Schulz for scoring her first varsity goal today.”
Up next: Upper Dublin is off until Tuesday, Sept 30, when the Cardinals will host Wissahickon, and Harry S Truman will be on the road at Cheltenham on Friday.
North Penn 4, Springfield Twp 0
North Penn had to wait a bit to get a payoff, but the Knights’ strong effort on both ends of the field led to a second straight win and consecutive shutouts to continue crossover play.
Springfield Twp, playing for a third straight day and coming off two matches that had gone to overtime on Tuesday and Wednesday, looked anything but tired in the first half. The Spartans held their ground, defended hard and got some terrific saves to keep the Knights outside the gates. North Penn was not deterred thanks to their defense proving quite impregnable itself and the Knights’ persistence paid off in the second half, the hosts converting four chances.
Freshman Annaliese Marnien had another strong outing, scoring the first two goals of the game
Scoring Summary

2nd Half
NP -Annaliese Marnien (Avery Krepps) 50th
NP – Annaliese Marnien (Alyssa Chartrand) 58th
NP – Mila Rogozinski (Jadyn Sperling) 62nd
NP – Lieka Keijzer (Alana Drummond) 75th
North Penn coach Mike Rio on the win: “Really great game from us today, the girls controlled both halves and Springfield did a great job defending and their goalie made some big saves in the first half to keep it 0-0. Springfield was playing their third game in a row and really worked hard the entire game and deserve a lot of credit for playing tough defensively.”
–Marnien breaks the tie: “We finally got the breakthrough when Lani Bachmann played a ball wide to Avery who played a great through ball to Annaliese who slotted it right by the keeper. The next goal came when Alyssa Chartrand played a great long ball from our own defensive third that sent Anna through again on a breakaway that she finished.”
–Adding on: “The third goal was a result of some solid possession from us. Jadyn (Sperling) played a great ball to Mila (Rogonzinski) who touched it by the defender and then calmly finished it low corner. Finally, Alana played a great ball to the top of the box from midfield that Lieka settled and beat the defender and keeper from the penalty spot.”
–Team efforts: “Defensively we played great and didn’t give them any chances. I thought our crosses were great today and we constantly threatened them in the offensive zone. Also was happy with all the energy our girls brought off the bench today and the play never went down, and it was a solid team effort. We had a lot of injuries to start the season and it feels like we are finally getting healthy and getting more consistent minutes from some key players.”
Up next: North Penn will host Quakertown on Wednesday, and Springfield Top will host Bensalem on Thursday.
NORTH PENN 0 4 – 4
SPRINGFIELD TWP 0 0 – 0
Pennridge 3, William Tennent 0
A key component to Pennridge’s success is its depth.
While the Rams usually have some extremely talented starters, they always seem to have quality coming off their bench to spell those starters. After dropping their first two matches of the season, Pennridge has been using its depth to keep a positive run going as the Rams made it eight straight wins in Thursday’s win over visiting William Tennent.
Co-captains Peyton Rabinowitz and Emma Shaeffer led the way up front, the duo combining for all three first half goals to follow up a solid game from each on Tuesday.
Scoring Summary

P – Emma Shaeffer (Cam Snyder) 14:41

Pennridge coach Lucas Kriner: “It was nice to adjust the lineup and broaden our rotation of players today. The substitutes showed a lot of character with the minutes they got. That’s a hallmark of Pennridge soccer: we have hungry players. It’s a structure that helps keep standards high and definitely something the coaching staff will be watching closely as we go into the second half of the season. We’re in a good spot in the league standings and in the district rankings, but the message next week will be to keep the desire high.”
–Props: “Peyton’s opening goal and Emma’s two tallies were special. Over the course of the week Emma and Peyton – two-thirds of the 2025 captaincy, along with Avery Runk – have led this team by example. Lots of good play in the second half from everyone. Cece (senior goalkeeper Seretha DeMoss) had to make an acrobatic save to keep the clean sheet, so kudos to her for her third shutout.”
William Tennent coach Elise Jara: “Freshman Ava Jakimoski had a strong game coming off the bench for us. She applied pressure up top and did not back down to the physical play of the Pennridge defense. Megan Pacchioli had a strong second half in goal. Although we lost the game we were able to shut down their offense in the second half which was a good takeaway for us.”
Up next: Pennridge is off until Tuesday (Sept 30) when the Lady Rams will host Souderton, and William Tennent will host Neshaminy on Thursday.

The Spartans’ second game of their three-day stretch went overtime thanks to a defensively stringent effort from both sides.
Karter Brady staked Springfield Twp to a first half lead, the speedy striker taking advantage of one of the few cracks in the Mount’s defense. However, the Magic would equalize in the second half and neither team was able to find any space against the other’s back lines the rest of the way.

Springfield Twp coach Chris Tomarelli on the match: “Springfield played to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a well-coached Mount team in a competitive soccer match. Karter Brady scored the lone goal for Springfield, capitalizing on one of the few clear chances against a disciplined defense. The team showed resilience and composure throughout the game, maintaining focus despite the pressure.
