Central Bucks East goal Jake Nesteruk: “A solid win for our group on the road today against a good Abington team. It’s never a comfortable game or easy place to play and today was no different. We played against their group in pre-season, and they were all over us, so I thought today was a much better effort from us. We tried to be a bit more direct with our play today and think we found a good balance with it as we settled into this game. Abington came out strong and clipped a few good chances off some turnovers in the center of the park, but that first goal from Mia seemed to give us a bit of a blueprint for how to create things going forward. A busy three-game week for us, so proud of our kids for being efficient today and eyes forward to hosting Hatboro Horsham on Thursday.”
—The goals: “On the first, Taylor Roumy did a great job of rolling her defender and put a great ball into the 18. A well-timed run from Mia, a bit of a deflection that caused a scramble in the 6 and a gritty finish to get us the lead.
“The second goal stemmed from a bit of great tracking back by Mattie Williams. Abington was driving at us in the center of the park, and Mattie broke that attack up, Addie Langlois stepped well, got her head up, and clipped a ball in behind. Mia just did what Mia does on the run and really calm finish. Our third came from a good early ball in behind from our outside back, Lina Dan, into Mattie Williams and a good finish from her to extend the lead.
“Our fourth came off a corner, and Mackenzie Peters did a great job keeping a play alive and Lina just made a play inside the 6. She’s been giving us some really great minutes of late and I’m happy to see her get her name on the scoresheet.”
—Props: “Mia Forney was really good with her time today and great in front of goal. Delaney Ralph and Rylie Leedy slotted in and did a nice job for us in the center of the park. Liz Mooney gave us a very solid second half going forward.”
Up next: Abington returns to action at 3:30 pm today at Pennridge. East will host Hatboro-Horsham at 7 pm Thursday.
