The Ghosts opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on their way to the win in Wednesday’s SOL opener. Chase Metzgar scored a pair of goals – the first eight minutes into the game and the second in the final five minutes.
Kyle Kretschman scored in the 24th minute, taking it in from 25-30 yards and slotting it home. After Kretschman was tripped inside the box, Sean Westmoreland converted a penalty kick to send the Ghosts into halftime with a three-goal advantage.
The Hatters got on the scoreboard midway through the second half on a goal by Kevin Long after a long throw-in.

Abington coach Randy Garber:
–Props: “Owen Gesing in the midfield did a nice job. Carter Shannon played defense today, and defensively, he was very, very good. Kyle Kretschman obviously did well, and Jazafith Vasquez also played well.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Kyle McGrath:
–On the game: “I thought we played much better in the second half than the first half. We started slow, and obviously, it’s a tough place to play the first game of the year at Abington on their grass field. I thought we responded well in the second half and actually had a goal called back for offsides, which was tight, but would have made it 3-2. Then they scored a goal late to make it 4-1. We have some positives to take from it and look forward to Friday.”
Up next: Abington (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Archbishop Ryan in a non-league game Friday (11 am), and Hatboro-Horsham (0-1 SOL) will host Archbishop Carroll in a non-league game Friday (10 am).

NORRISTOWN 8, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2
An early goal by Dom Marcella assisted by Yousef Al-Hebshi gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead, but the Eagles responded.
In the second half, Ian Kanze connected with an assist from Gabe Taormina.
“We were up then down very quickly,” PW coach Toni Washington said. “We are bound to give up goals – it’s part of the game, but we didn’t respond the way I know we are capable of. It was not the bounce-back performance expected after fighting back in yesterday’s match.
“Credit to Norristown coaches and players who came out and executed their game plan. It was our second game in a row and first home game of the season, so this one will sting but we will move on to our first league match tomorrow against Quakertown and do our best to improve from where we are today.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh (0-2) will play its third game in as many days Thursday when the Colonials host Quakertown in their league opener.
