PENNSBURY 6, BENSALEM 0
The Falcons – thanks to a pair of Abby Iacona goals – opened up a 2-0 lead after one quarter and took that lead into halftime on their way to the shutout win that clinched sole possession of the SOL Patriot Division title, the program’s first outright crown since 2017.
Ryan Burdette added a goal and an assist, and adding one goal each were Cailyn Reilly, Mallory Harrison and Lilly Alon.

Coach Gary Kubik:
“Pennsbury out cornered Bensalem 6-3. Goaltender Hailey Fricke made 14 saves, some fantastic off of some of the best offensive players in the Patriot Division.
“There were positives – we held them scoreless in the second quarter when it was still a 2-0 game. Midway through the third quarter, I was able to rest some of my starters who will be playing four games this week. Bensalem still has its eyes on the prize, and with three games left, (we) sit just one spot out of a playoff spot.”
–Props: “Shoutouts to Veronica Lennon who had her hands full today as did left back Abby Cheung, with the powerful attack of Pennsbury.”
Up next: Pennsbury – the ninth seed in the latest District 1 3A rankings – will travel to Haverford for a non-league game Friday. Bensalem will be on the road for a non-league game at Conwell-Egan Thursday. The Owls are 25th in the latest district power rankings in what will be a 24-team field.
Pennsbury clinched SOL Patriot Division title
(Article submitted by Pennsbury field hockey)
Defense wins championships.
The Pennsbury Falcons’ defensive unit continues to prove that mantra as they clocked another stellar performance against the Bensalem Owls, walking away with the shutout victory that clinched the SOL Patriot Division championship. This the first championship for the Falcons since Traci Curtis took over the program in 2019. The last time Pennsbury sat atop the Patriot Division and won outright was 2017.
The PHS defensive unit is the perfect complement to the fierce midfield and attacking force that notched six unanswered goals. Senior captain Cailyn Reilly delivered a strong performance in the middle, utilizing every trick in her pocket offensively and defensively. Fellow defender and senior captain Joley Hohman shut down so many opportunities with an incredibly strong stick in the circle and clears that reached her teammates far upfield to start offensive pressure immediately from the red zone. Senior defender Payton Worth had a defensive save and multiple stops to keep the Owls off the board and junior defender Allie Foussd stepped into spaces and robbed Bensalem of making connecting passes many times.
“This defensive unit is really fun to watch,” Pennsbury coach Traci Curtis. “They have come together so beautifully this season and settled into their space with a confidence and connection that is hard to beat. Cailyn Reilly was a huge leader out there today, holding the middle and taking care of business on both sides of the ball.”.
Senior captain Abby Iacona kicked off the scoring halfway through the first quarter putting PHS up 1-0.
“The grass field is always a wild card for us, but today it was not a factor at all,” explains Curtis. “We were so proud of the girls as they navigated the unfamiliar surface with poise and patience. They came out unphased and just went hard from the first whistle setting the tone and playing their game. They showed such growth in that aspect of their mental mindset not allowing anything to bother
them about the surface change. That’s what champions are made of.”
Iacona struck again with two minutes left in the quarter with non-stop momentum off a give-and-go with Burdette that ended with a beautifully executed dodge around the goalie to finish what she started.
“We talk endlessly about treating the goalie like a field player and dodging her in the same way you would anyone – Iacona gave a textbook tutorial on how that works,” said Curtis.
PHS was up 2-0 going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was scoreless, and Bensalem continued to fight hard from end to end.
“Gary and Shawn are doing incredible things with their field hockey program. Their team plays with heart and skill, and they have stellar goalies to support the cast,” said Curtis. “They held us to two goals in the first half and forced us to work really hard for what we wanted.”
The third quarter was a different story as the Falcons applied their RELENTLESS mentality and added three goals to the books. Cailyn Reilly put on a master class in penalty corner creativity connecting on a lifted shot over the goalie’s head that fell perfectly into the corner of the cage to put PHS up 3-0. Mallory Harrison collected a rebound two minutes later made it a 4-0 game. Sophomore Lilly Alon widened the gap as the quarter ended with a tip off a Ryan Burdette pass. The Falcons were up 5-0 going into the final quarter and the SOL championship was coming into focus.
“We were so impressed with how our girls were playing and getting excited about what the win would mean for us,” said Curtis. “Grass may not seem like a big deal, but it is a game changer and forces so much adjusting with execution – it can be a totally different game compared to playing on turf, but our girls came in and dominated with the same skill they have been exhibiting all season.”
Ryan Burdette iced the cake with an unassisted goal, beating multiple defenders and dodging the goalie. The Pennsbury Falcons earned the 6-0 win and clinched the SOL Patriot Division outright.
“Shout out to midfielder Ava Pinto for her heartfelt contributions and never settling,” Curtis added.
Up next: The Falcons will take to the road on Friday for a match up against Haverford Hight School and continue to shake up the rankings.

PENNRIDGE 1, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
(Submitted by Pennridge field hockey)
History repeated itself Wednesday night in Buckingham. The last time Pennridge defeated CB East on the Patriots’ home turf was Sept. 24, 2013, when the Rams earned a 1-0 victory. On Wednesday, Pennridge matched that feat, once again blanking CB East by a 1-0 score behind an early strike from Paige Cowper and a shutout performance from goalkeeper Ella Ricci.
Pennridge struck early and never relinquished the advantage. With 6:28 remaining in the first quarter, Cowper converted a penalty corner opportunity off an assist from Colbie Landherr to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
Much like Monday’s contest, the Rams scored early and relied on disciplined defense the rest of the way. The match was largely contested through the midfield, with Pennridge holding a 5-2 advantage in attacking penalty corners.
CB East generated several dangerous chances throughout the evening, but Ricci was outstanding in goal. The Rams’ goalkeeper turned away all nine shots she faced, recording her third shutout of the season and preserving the one-goal lead until the final whistle.
Pennridge’s defensive unit was equally instrumental. Anna Ogden recorded two defensive saves, increasing her season and career total to three, helping deny multiple Patriots scoring opportunities in front of the cage.
Cowper’s game-winner was her second goal of the season and proved to be the difference in a tightly contested conference matchup.
“Tonight was an excellent demonstration of doing what you plan to do,” said head coach Chris Chookagian. “This group continues to amaze us by playing better each game. CB East was knocking on the door a few times throughout the game with some very good chances, but our goalkeeper Ella Ricci stood tall and earned a shutout, going 9-for-9 on saves.”
CB East goalie Nora Kanyok was credited with 10 saves, which included the 100th save of her career.
With the victory, Pennridge improves to 4-10 overall and 1-7 in the Suburban One League, while CB East falls to 8-7-1 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play.
Props Spotlight:
–Ella Ricci continued her strong season in goal, turning aside all nine shots she faced to earn her third shutout of the year. Her performance helped Pennridge preserve the one-goal lead against a CB East team that created several quality scoring opportunities throughout the match.
–Anna Ogden played a key role in the defensive effort, recording two defensive saves. The junior now has three defensive saves this season, matching her career total and further solidifying her impact on the Rams’ back line.
–Paige Cowper provided the game’s lone goal, converting on a first-quarter penalty corner opportunity. The tally was her second goal of the season and ultimately stood as the game-winner.
–Colbie Landherr contributed the assist on Cowper’s goal, helping create the decisive scoring play that lifted the Rams to victory.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, SOUDERTON 0
The Bucks clinched sole possession of their fourth division title in as many years with Wednesday’s shutout win.
“I actually didn’t even know we clinched it for sure until somebody on the sideline mentioned it,” West coach Lori Ierubino said. “This team started the year with big shoes to fill. We came off losing in the state final and graduating some big contributors, so I didn’t really know what we would have.
“But a lot of the kids also were on the team last year, so it was that balance of having kids back but having to build a new identity with the new players as well as players in different roles and needing to step up in leadership roles. I think we’re getting there, and I’m very excited for them.”
Less than two minutes into the contest, Lucy Smith turned a pass from Claire Demmer during corner play into a goal, giving the Bucks a lead they would not lose. Ellie Tweddale scored an unassisted goal in the second quarter to send the Bucks into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
A third-quarter goal by Zola Morelli (Tweddale assist) gave the Bucks their final margin of victory.
“We know Souderton is a very strong team, so for us to come out the way we did and just stay dominant on the field the entire time and not let up at all during the game was very important to us,” Morelli said. “I’m proud of our girls for being able to push through the entire time.
“It felt great because this is our fourth year in a row winning the SOL, and as a senior, to be able to do that, it’s very special because that really doesn’t happen that often.”
Morelli is a captain along with senior Heidi Schoenleber.
“We started off strong tonight, scoring in the first two minutes,” Schoenleber said. “We really wanted this win, we knew it was going to be a tough game because Souderton is a very strong team. They’re very skilled.
“Yesterday in practice, we were locked in, and we were like, ‘We need to win tomorrow, we need to play hard, and we need to work together,’ and I think we did that. I’m very proud of everyone.”

Central Bucks West coach Lori Ierubino:
“Way to go CB West on clinching the SOL league championship. Our goalie Bella Craig played a fantastic game making critical saves in the second half with our defensive corner team – Tori Taurino, Leah Cipollo, Laney Hall, Margot Trask and Heidi Schoenleber. Souderton is a fast and feisty team, and we were able to score early in three of the four quarters to establish control and set an early tone.”
Souderton coach Sue Casciato:
“Unfortunately, the issues that plagued us in tonight’s game were the same ones we have struggled with all season. We fell behind early, and we were unable to capitalize on our offensive opportunities when we had them.
“CB West played better team hockey then we did. Their players all step strongly to the ball, and their passing game is crisp. Their goals all started with good passing and ended with a hard shot. We did have numerous opportunities to score, especially in the third quarter. But the West goalie made a couple very good saves, as did one of their defenders. Hopefully we can figure out how generate more offense as we head into the last few games of the regular season.”
Up next: Central Bucks West – fourth in the latest District 1 3A power rankings – will host Central Bucks East on Tuesday (7pm), and Souderton will host Gwynedd Mercy in a non-league game Friday (6pm). Souderton is 17th In the district power rankings.

We had good ball movement throughout the field, and we were able to work the ball on different sides of a new lineup.
“A night of celebration of our class of 2027, capped off with a win. We look towards our Dream Crazy for Greta Game on Friday and our Youth Night on Monday to close out the regular season home games.”
–Props: “Jenna Butler had a hand in all three goals tonight and controlled the middle of our field when we needed control. She and Marchesi were able to feed the forward line the ball to quickly move up the field to gain the momentum we needed.
“Sophia Hurley had a fantastic game coming up with big saves in the fourth that held our victory. Strong below 5-yard line clears, and good communication showed tonight from the backfield.”

We knew we would have to show up and be ready to play at the same caliber to maintain our progress. After getting off to a bit of a slow start, we really started to move the ball well and get some opportunities in the circle.
–Props: “Major props to Abington’s defense who were disciplined in keeping their sticks down and set consistent double teams in the circle. Their goalie also stayed involved in every rebound and played very well today.
“I would like to give a shout-out to Claire Wilson, who had a hand in every goal, and to Caroline Powell who had great steps to ball on the defensive line.”

Upper Moreland competed well against a skilled New Hope team. Our defense did a great job managing New Hope’s attack, and despite the 3-0 final score, Upper Moreland matched play throughout the game, particularly in the fourth quarter.
On defense, Bridget Hess controlled the game. We played several different formations today, and Bridget was the heart of every one! She made many defensive stops and played aggressively while limiting her defensive fouls to keep the ball moving in our direction. Hannah Gardner also made several key defensive stops and played well in the circle to limit NHS scoring chances. Soph Riehle played well at forward, but also when moved to defense, she helped UM limit NHS to only had one shot in the fourth quarter. When New Hope did get shots in the first three quarters – UM Goalie Izzy Fisher played awesome, making 12 saves and several key clears to teammates in the circle.
Taylor Pagano played well at midfield and was also strong at forward at the end of the game! Olivia Torres made multiple tackles in the midfield and pushed the ball up the field. Forward Gianna Jones hardly ever came out of the game and showed her resilience time and time again, coming back for the ball!
Circle play remains an area where Upper Moreland needs to improve. We are playing well across the field, but we need to finish our scoring opportunities and eliminate the small mistakes that lead to goals against. We will keep working at it. This team works hard in practice, and I know we will continue to improve.
